Student Warmists Want Schools To Divest From Fossil Fuels

I wonder if they will enjoy their tuition, room and board, etc, going up to offset this if it actually happens?

Student Campaigners at Five Major Universities File Legal Complaints Against Fossil Fuel Investment

Student climate groups at Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and MIT have filed complaints with attorneys general in their respective states arguing the schools have violated state law by investing in fossil fuels.

“Universities have a duty to promote the public interest in exchange for their tax-exempt charitable status, and that duty is incompatible with fossil fuel investments,” said Alex Marquardt, a staff attorney at the Climate Defense Project, which assisted the student-led campaigns in preparing the complaints. “The law can be a powerful ally in fighting climate change, but only if people are held accountable for actually following it.”

Each of the five states has passed some version of the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act, which requires a university’s investments to be consistent with its “charitable purpose.” In letters signed by student groups, alumni, faculty, and climate scientists, activists argue that the hundreds of millions of dollars universities have invested in fossil fuels are at odds with universities’ charitable status.

So, for the most part, fancy pants high earner students. Here’s an idea: turn off the heating and cooling systems in the dorms and classrooms, in the faculty rooms and offices, which are most likely powered by fossil fueled. End school travel that uses fossil fuels. Allow no private, fossil fueled vehicles on school property. Make the climate cultists practice what they preach.

“Our universities are amongst the world’s wealthiest and most prestigious institutions of higher education, and their investments in the fossil fuel industry — an industry whose actions place the health and future of students and the entire planet at risk — amount to nothing less than complicity in the climate crisis,” said Princeton alumna Anna Liebowitz. “Thus, our campaigns are coming together and collectively calling for an end to fossil fuel investments in higher education and the world at large.”

It’s a cult.

The fuking moron that dopes like dOwd laughingly call “president” flew to Wisconsin to conduct a CNN-televised town hall before a crowd of a mere 50 people in downtown Milwaukee’s landmark Pabst Theatre. 50 People? This is the clown that all the fascists and communists and dOwds swear got 81 million votes yet he couldn’t pull in 81 individuals to a Town Hall.

Then, this piece of shit called “president” began his brilliant speech. Asked by Anderson Cooper to comment on the plight of the Uyghurs this F’ing moron stated: “We must speak up for human rights. It’s who we are. We can’t — my comment to him was — and I know him well, and he knows me well. We’re — a two-hour conversation.” Fukin’ brilliant. Just brilliant.

He then was axed if he had actually spoken to Xi about the Uyghurs, Biden started spouting CCP talking points before dissolving into an incoherent word salad:

“I talked about this, too. And that’s not so much refugee, but I talked about — I said — look, you know, Chinese leaders — if you know anything about Chinese history, it has always been — the time when China has been victimized by the outer world is when they haven’t been unified at home. So the central — to vastly overstate it — the central principle of Xi Jinping is that there must be a united, tightly controlled China. And he uses his rationale for the things he does based on that.

I point out to him: No American President can be sustained as a President if he doesn’t reflect the values of the United States. And so the idea I’m not going to speak out against what he’s doing in Hong Kong, what he’s doing with the Uyghurs in western mountains of China and Taiwan, trying to end the One China policy by making it forceful — I said — and by the — he said he — he gets it. Culturally, there are different norms that each country and they — their leaders — are expected to follow.”

Yeah, tell us how this incoherent corksucker of a senile idiot got 81 million votes. This man’s followers can only be idiots or retards. If dOwd’s an example then both, a retarded idiot.

Let’s go dOwd, more working people to fuk for your commie/fascist bosses. Maybe you can figure how to sue another American company into submission. Another end run around the constitution. Now they and their leftist lawyers are suing the 2nd amendment out of existence. Now we know why they spent 50 years indoctrinating lawyers and judges at America’s law schools.

I support these “students” – let’s cut off any electricity supplied to the schools that’s NOT produced by wind or solar and cut off any NG supplies to their boilers or other heaters.

How can we NOT respect their desires for ecological purity?

    • Professor Hale says:

Doesn’t go far enough. You obviously aren’t serious about Climate $CHA-Change$.
They shouldn’t use solar or wind power either if the windmills and solar panels were produced, transported or installed by fossil fuels.

  3. alanstorm says:

Oh, and while we’re at it, ban any non-electric vehicles on campus, and anything delivered to the campus by non-electric vehicles.

    Isn’t that what they want?

    • Professor Hale says:

Only EVs that were produced without fossil fuels or ingredients. No evil plastics or metals from foundries. If the students aren’t walking everywhere and growing their own food, they are the problem, not the solution.

At least the student protesters didn’t block an international bridge hurting the livelihoods of millions in two countries!

On another note, this morning it was revealed that Kintucky receives the greatest amount of federal largesse, $63 BILLION, above and beyond what their residents pay in taxes! Careful observers have noted before that blue states like NY are supporting red states like Kintucky. Good job Mitch and Rand!

Redistribution!! Socialism!! Red states were renamed the Union of Socialist States of Red (USSR).

    • Down on the Corner says:

Old and tired argument. You are the ones that want socialism. Socialism means REDISTRIBUTING THE WEALTH.

That is what they are doing. REDISTIRUBTING THE WEALTH FROM rich states to poor states. That you should even bring it up shows that you are a paid troll agitator and not a sincere socialist.

You should encourage more of this. Not less. The poor should be overly endowed with money from the Rich. Your government is doing exactly that!!!!!!!

    • drowningpuppies says:

      Old and tired argument indeed!

What’s the matter with kids today? Nothing new. A large portion of the brats, the squirts, the fuzz-faced, the moon calves, the sap-green, and the wet behind the ears have always been “Punks for Progressives.”

As soon as children discover that the world isn’t nice, they want to make it nicer. And wouldn’t a world where everybody shares everything be nice? Aw … kids are so tender-hearted.

But kids are broke — so they want to make the world nicer with your money.

It’s kind of awesome: Kentucky, one of the nation’s poorest states is actually the 16th wealthiest using the Department of Commerce’s adjusted poverty scale, which takes into account the costs of living, including housing prices and property taxes. Thus, even though Kentucky has a lower adjusted poverty rate than the Pyrite State, the people of the Commonwealth pay less in taxes because while our absolute dollar income is lower than in California, making our federal taxes lower. Our state income tax rate, 5% across the board, is lower than California’s, and our property taxes are minimal; I paid slightly less than $400 for the entire year on 8 acres, with a decent house and garage, because the dollar value of the Domaine de Pico is listed so low.

Union of Socialist States of Red (USSR)? How about Union des États Socialistes Rouges? I would have tried ???? ??????? ???????????????? ?????????? (Soyuz Krasnykh Sotsialisticheskikh Gosudarstv) but Cyrillic characters don’t always work well on this site. Here’s hoping that this comment doesn’t crash the system!

Congratulations on Kintucky’s low taxes. Fortunately, Blue states make up the difference!

You win the “Non-Sequitur of the Week” Award, with extra points for Off-Topic Deflection!

Given your track record, we should probably just give it to you in perpetuity, but there’s a small chance someone could out-do you.

    • L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

First off dOwd, the blue states don’t support anyone. The very, very rich leftists in those states do with their taxes. States don’t pay taxes, people do. Since you are always bitching about income inequality you should be cheering this on. Don’t you want to steal the money from the rich leftists and give it to the working class red state folks?

Once again, and probably for in perpetuity your hateful, corrupt and immoral hypocrisy shows it’s very ugly head.

Let’s go dOwd, maybe your rich Democrat liars can steal more off us poor working people.

Because Mrs Pico’s sister was moving back to the Bluegrass State when she retired, we had to buy a house for her. We paid, in December of 2021, $70,000 for a two-bedroom, one-bathroom single-family detached home, located in the nearest town. (My sister-in-law couldn’t buy it because her credit was trashed and she just plain didn’t have the money.) Because I am not living there, the property taxes will be roughly $800 a year; I can’t get the homestead exemption for being over 65 on a house in which I do not live.

My nephew and I completely remodeled the bathroom and redid the plumbing, because those had problems, but with us doing all of the work, we spent less than $2,000 in the process. The same house in Antioch, California would have been much more.

This was my parents’ house, and on February 20, 2020, it sold for $360,000, to a flipper. They’ve remodeled it, with much nicer finishes and appliances, and it’s on the market again for $550,000. 3 small bedrooms, one bath, for over half a million bucks.
