Because all those disadvantaged people can easily afford a $31000 (starting) EV, with the average price being $54K. That $31k gets you a Mini EV with a range of 110 miles. I’m sure all those out in rural areas will find that serves them well, right?

Well, I’m one of those people who live in a rural, and disadvantaged area, but as I see what filling stations there are, I note that they are all private companies.
Of course, if you are going to depend on commercial ‘supercharger’ stations, you’d better be prepared to wait for an hour while your Chevy Dolt charges.
What people would really need would be charging stations at home. Too bad so many people don’t live in places where a dedicated, protected charging station can be mounted.
Please tell me how many States have how many electric cars?

Makers of charging stations are writing bonus checks to their lobbyists this week. It’s amazing what a few dollars in the right pockets will do.
Personally, I prefer the free market solution where fueling stations decide on their own if the investment in real estate and hardware is worth the price just to attract a few extra customers who have nothing to do but hang out in their convenience stores for an hour (or two if someone is ahead of you) while they charge up. In DC, the gas stations aren’t even large enough to support 4 cars pulling in for gasoline at the same time. You have to go out to the suburbs to find a charging station of any size. (btw, “free market” solution means no government subsidies, incentives, price controls, mandates, carbon exchanges or tariffs on competitors).
The reason they want to put those charging stations in rural areas is to invade those Republican towns at election time. Right now, they can drive to the small towns but they can’t get back to Chicago or New York where they live. This isn’t done to improve rural areas; it’s done to extend their logistical leash in the Culture Wars. Please see Loudoun County, Virginia as an example.
They can put all of the charging stations they want in my area, but they’ll all be getting their sparktricity from a coal burning power plant!
But of course the objective is to transition away from coal burning power plants as well.
