Mayor Pete Explains Going Back To The Past For ‘Climate Change’

I know y’all are super excited to ride bikes, walk, and take trains, right?

Buttigieg: Biden plan will usher in a new transportation era

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Thursday that an infrastructure plan expected soon from President Joe Biden will offer a “once in a century” opportunity to remake transportation in the United States, where cars and highways are no longer king.

Speaking at the Austin, Texas-based South by Southwest conference, which is being held virtually this year, Buttigieg compared the new possibility to the creation of an interstate highway under President Dwight Eisenhower in the 1950s and a transcontinental railroad under President Abraham Lincoln a century before that.

“We start with something unglamorous, which is fixing and improving what we’re already got — there’s been a trillion dollar backlog just in the roads and bridges we already have,” he said. “But I’ll add there are some things that need to be reduced … sometimes roads need to go on a diet.”

He said the U.S. can no longer follow a 1950s mentality of building roads and communities based on moving as many cars as possible, but must adapt to the reality of climate change and ensure the safety of growing numbers of bicyclists and pedestrians on the streets.

“The design choices we make, how fast cars move, whether there’s bike lanes and sidewalks … green space even, all of this is part of that view,” Buttigieg said. “Sometimes we do need to add a road or widen one. Just as often, I think we need to subtract.”

The new era is an old one, with bikes instead of horses. Of course, the big wigs won’t be giving up their own use of fossil fueled vehicles. They won’t walk or bike. And, last time I checked, our Constitution made this kind of dictatorial power verboten.

On Thursday, Buttigieg said he saw opportunities to build out high-speed and other passenger rail in strongly Republican states, not just coastal, Democratic areas in the Northeast and California. He said that could reduce car-dependence, create jobs and help the environment. But he acknowledged he “can’t do it alone,” without major federal investment and support from Congress.

I notice people like Pete do not take the train. But, you peons will have no choice, unless you want to walk or bike. Why does ‘climate change’ always seem to involve authoritarian centralized government?

Yes, and in the hierarchy of liberal victim groups, that would put Mayor Pete’s group just behind the alphabet people…

I’m sure you thought you were making a cogent point.

You weren’t, and thus you keep your perfect score of zero intact.

Robert Aaron Long is alleged to have killed eight people, six of whom were of Asian descent, but I s’pose to Cousin It and the rest of the left, the two victims who were not Asian don’t matter, don’t count.

It appears that Mr Long had a problem with massage parlors. He hated the idea they existed, but he frequented them nevertheless, because he had little self-control. Eventually we will find out that Mr Long was an “incel,” a man male who could not attract a woman and could not get sex without having to pay for it, yet Cousin It seems to think that his shooting spree was some sort of rational act motivated by politics. It’s far more probable that he was simply a loser.

Thing is, conservatives have better and more frequent sex than liberals. Google “conservatives have happier sex lives” and you’ll get “About 31,700,000 results,” but I can’t link more than two here without sending the content into moderation. That’s part of the reason that most of the “incels” (involuntarily celibates) are liberals, the other part being that liberal men males really don’t have as much of what it takes to attract real women.

Me? I’ve been married, to the same woman, for 41 years, ten months and two days! But, then again, I’m an evil reich-wing conservative!

Perhaps you might read this story from Robert Stacy McCain. It seems that The Washington Post sent a bunch of reporters to do a background profile on Robert Long, and came up with virtually nothing that has an anti-Asian theme.

It’s actually a bit worse. At least in the past you could ride your horse or buckboard or buggy from your door to your destination; Secretary Bootyjudge wants you to go station-to-station, and then walk.

Lil Smegma is obsessed with gay sex, isn’t he.

https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gif This, from a guy who nicknames a commenter he doesn’t like “Smegma.” Are there no mirrors in your house?

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Mr Dina ignores that Secretary Buttigieg didn’t say anything about “going back to the past”.

Mr Dano ignores Smegma‘s nicknames for others. Anyway, Smegma has nothing to do with gay sex. Smegma knows what he can do to avoid his nickname.

“Straight” connies have always been obsessed with gay sex for some reason. They call Secretary Buttigieg names and smear him for being gay believing* it diminishes him in some way.

*My bad. Almost used “connies” and “thinking” in the same paragraph.

Pothole Pete is the one who told us about going back to the past. Oh, he didn’t say it directly, but he wants to take away our ability to have door-to-door transportation, for our own good, don’t you know?

They call Secretary Buttigieg names and smear him for being gay believing it diminishes him in some way.

The notion that you would be upset about other people calling people with whom they disagree names is just hysterically funny. Pot, meet kettle!

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Mr Dana also has trouble with comprehension.

            I typed:

mocking you and Smegma‘s fruitless attempts to diminish Secretary Buttigieg.

Just silly connies having a circle jerk. LOL.

  5. Dana says:

Considering the condition of South Bend’s streets, perhaps Pothole Pete would be a better name for him.

Of course, just like you have to take your car to the airport, you’ll have to take your car to the train station. Then you’ll have to rent a car at your destination station.

It was way back in 1961, when my mother moved us from California to Maine, by train. The trip took four days and three nights. There were no high speed trains back then, but even the highest speed trains are only a third the speed of an airliner.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Several years ago St. Louis inexplicably approved an all-electric Metro light rail system linking some suburban areas with downtown (Busch Stadium, Go Cardinals!), major medical centers, attractions and the airport. We no longer drive downtown for parks, sporting events, museums or concerts.

A nephew is an attorney here in backward St. Louis. He walks/bikes the few blocks to the nearby Metro station, rides downtown (they have spaces for bikes) and walks/pedals a couple of blocks to the federal building – clearly saving money, reducing CO2 emissions and benefitting his health.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Dana, Dana, Dana… you missed the obvious nickname… Pol Pothole. He’s a “pol” responsible for potholes!

      Happy to help.

  6. Dana says:

For a couple of years, I commuted from Jim Thorpe to my job in the Philadelphia suburbs. The train station in downtown Jim Thorpe was one to which I could easily walk, and there were even SEPTA tracks — though not a SEPTA stop — close to one of the plants at which I worked. (Actually, I was all over the area.)

Alas! Starting at 6:00 in the morning — ready-mixed concrete plants have to be open in time to get concrete to contractors by 7:00 AM — it’s unlikely that there would have been a commuter train from Jim Thorpe to foul, fetid, fuming, foggy, filthy Philadelphia that early in the morning. And I never knew what I would leave work. Basically, I left when work was done, which could be anytime between 4:00 and 8:00 PM. Would there be a commuter train back to Jim Thorpe when I got off?

  7. Dana says:

Ever use the New York City subways? A tremendous system, no doubt about that, but it still involves a lot of walking. My younger daughter and I were going to the Cathedral of St John the Divine, planning to get off at the 110th Street station, but we missed it. Next stop? 125th Street! That’s a good hike back down to 112th Street!

How about the Washington Metro? Same difference: good system, though very expensive, unlike NYC, but the stops are few and far apart. A lot of walking unless your stops are close to both your home and work, which still isn’t too bad . . . if it’s not raining, sleeting, snowing, -5º F wind chill or 94º F in the summer.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

But you know what one DOESN’T see much of in Manhattan? Fat Manhattanites. Only fat tourists. Maybe walking a few blocks isn’t as bad as one believes. Also note it’s advisable to pay attention to train stops. Be careful at airports – Oakland can sound like Auckland.

Thank the gods for cities such as Philadelphia and NYC. These hubs of economic activity help support the rural areas and underperforming Red States.

      • drowningpuppies says:

Does that explain the overabundance of lardasses in St. Louis?

  8. Kye says:

The endless dividing of our country based on race and all kinds of fictitious sexes and so on by the radical fascist left is really beginning to literally break up America. Perhaps that may be a good thing but nonetheless, Hairy calling this sex fiend killer a “Patriotic, White Evangelical” so so ludicrous, so vile, so ignorant and so racist it suspends reality. These leftists truly are the Devil’s spawn.

    https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kfCJ-_AbIAc/YFdIJTpgfuI/AAAAAAACris/vd4u6gnEIicq4bsaaQEjfyaNEfl_ZiUZwCLcBGAsYHQ/s16000/1%2B1%2Bkjhgsdkjghklddfgdfgd.jpg

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Kye denies that the spree killer was a white evangelical into guns and God.

The killer’s beliefs are at the intersection of anti-Asian bigotry and conservative christian evangelical obsessions with “immoral” sex, of course blaming Korean women for his obsession. That’s not to say that the killer wasn’t weak-minded and delusional, but there’s a lot of that on the nuRight.

How would a modern conservative have stopped this? More mental health resources? Infiltrate evangelical churches? Shut down all “day spas”? Change Georgia’s “same day” gun sales? (The killer bought the 9 mm semi-auto the day of the murders.) Police on every corner? Just assume we will lose a certain number of Americans as the cost of freedom? Force women to be less attractive to weak men? More closely monitor white men with wispy beards who proclaim they’re into guns and God?

Kye ignores it’s the American right dividing Americans. If all Americans would just “believe as he does” there would be no divisions!! It’s people such as Kye and other white christian nationalists who call gay people “fags”, Muslims “mooslems”, insurrectionists “patriots”, liberals “fascists”, Covid-19 “China virus”, Black voters “illegal voters”, Mexican immigrants “illegal humans” … People such as Kye are afraid of losing white, straight, christian privilege and entitlements.

There’s little doubt that the “founding fathers”, although mostly lawyers, were brilliant, well-educated, worldly and largely decent men such as John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington who envisioned a wealthy, white, male, christian oligarchy/plutocracy when they crafted the Constitution, but it is doubtful they foresaw the abject fear, emotional weakness, anger, ignorance, violence, bigotry, hatred and authoritarianism of this modern nuRight.

Old friends in town from Indiana stopped by yesterday, very conservative, Trump supporters both… we visited all afternoon and had the most pleasant time. So it is possible.
