Portland Mayor Attends Portland “Protests”, Gives Stamp Of Approval To Attacking Federal Property And Employees

I’m all for Los Federales just leaving the city of Portland and letting it destroy itself, then sending a bill to the city for the destruction of federal property, but, on the flip side, they should not be allowed to destroy federal property with impunity

That was the headline yesterday. It’s changed a bit since if you click on the link

Portland Mayor Wheeler tear-gassed by federal officers, tells protesters he doesn’t support abolishing police

Mayor Ted Wheeler attended a protest in downtown Portland Wednesday night to answer protesters’ questions and hear their concerns. He was still in the crowd around 11:30 p.m. when federal officers used tear gas and other munitions to disperse the thousands of protesters outside the Multnomah County Justice Center.

Video from New York Times reporter Mike Baker shows Wheeler at the fence around the Justice Center as flash bangs and tear gas were being deployed by federal officers.

“I’m not gonna lie, it stings, it’s hard to breathe, and I can tell you with 100% honesty I saw nothing that provoked this response. It’s nasty stuff, I’m not afraid but I am pissed off,” Wheeler told Baker. “This is an egregious overreaction on the part of the federal officers. There was nothing that I saw anybody do that warranted this reaction. As you can see, all it’s done is piss everybody off. It’s made everybody angry. They’ve come in and they kicked the hornet’s nest. This is not a de-escalation strategy. This is flat out urban warfare and it’s being brought on the people of this country by the president of the United States and it’s got to stop now. This is a threat to our democracy.”

There’s something that the news outlet, which is a Portland TV station, forgot

Mayor Ted Wheeler, a Democrat, said it was the first time he’d been tear gassed and appeared slightly dazed and coughed as he put on a pair of goggles someone handed him and drank water. He didn’t leave his spot at the front, however, and continued to take gas. Around Wheeler, the protest raged, with demonstrators lighting a large fire in the space between the fence and the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse and the pop-pop-pop of federal agents deploying tear gas and stun grenades into the crowd.

If you’re lighting things on fire, you aren’t protesting peaceably anymore. If Wheeler doesn’t want the federal officers in Portland, then he should tell people to stop attacking the federal center and federal employees. Stop the vandalism. Stop the property destruction. Stop tearing down fencing, stop throwing things, stop trying to break in. It’s that simple. It’s cause and effect: the violent hooligans attacked the federal buildings, hence, federal officers came.

Oh, BTW, the protesters jeered Wheeler and called for him to resign.

Protesters in the crowd held signs aloft that read “Tear Gas Ted” in reference to the Portland Police Bureau’s use of the substance before federal agents arrived. When the mayor left the protest, around 12:40 a.m., some protesters surrounded him and shouted angrily at him as he walked away. One person shouted, “You’ve got to be here every single night!”

Why isn’t Ted social distancing? You can see plenty of video in Andy’s tweets showing the violence and arson, such as here and here, including setting a Comrade on fire.

Downtown Portland business owners feel negative impacts of continued nightly protests

What happens when all these businesses, and those in other parts of the city, flee? The owners may “support the purpose of the protests”, they don’t want their businesses trashed and know that few are going to want to come to the area.

Lying to yourself is an obvious paradox. This is true of self-delusion or self-deception. The real paradox here is that we have these expressions because the phenomenon seems to exist.

For example, the odds of knowing someone who has died from the corona virus is very low, unless you work in a nursing home. For the typical person, you are more likely to know someone who was murdered. In fact, in most of the country, you are four times more likely to know a murder victim than a corona victim. I don’t know one person who died of Wuhan Commie Flu, but I do know a man who died of a heart attack that tested positive for the flu. So he died With the flu not BECAUSE of the flu. Yet, many people on the Left will tell you they know many people who have died from the corona. They really believe this is true and display the appropriate emotions to prove it.

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that these people have had the math explained to them many times by the more skeptical. The same is true about the stories of overwhelmed hospitals everyone hears about, but no one has seen. The nurses and doctors posting TikTok videos of themselves dancing in empty hospitals had no effect on the believers in these claims. Even now, they are sure the “first responders” are nearing exhaustion as they heroically fight the virus. Yet on my last visit the the largest hospital in Philly, the U of P hospital the place was empty and working at 60% capacity.

It is not a coincidence that these people are sure Donald Trump is Adolph Hitler slowly imposing the Third Reich. People who otherwise seem calm and rational, despite their politics, become hysterical when talking about Trump. That would be Elwood. “He’s a dangerous dictator who is destroying the country” they bellow. It’s not just hyperbole. They really seem to believe that Trump is not only a man who wants to be a dictator, but that he is actually assuming dictatorial power. The lie is very real to them.

It’s not so much that they believe complete nonsense regarding Trump. It’s that their own reaction to the nonsense underscores the irrationality of it. After all, if Trump is anything like they believe, voting him out of office is unlikely. After all, he would use his magic dictator power to rig the vote or just ignore the result. Rather than reevaluate their beliefs, they are now creating another fantasy around with Trump secretly plotting to ignore the results of the election. It gives them “justification” for voter fraud with “mail-in” votes.

To add to the comment re empty hospitals…a friend is an NA at a local hospital…she along with dozens of others was furloughed in May. She received a new contract in June with a 10% pay reduction, on Friday the 16th she was laid off. So tell me about it.

Sunday evening I had dinner with my sister who is a physician attached to a large local hospital who informed me the hospital had received $40 million in bailout money in June even as one could shoot a gun in the lobby and hit neither a doctor or a patient.
This type of stuff is happening everywhere.

Trump 2020 Just because the left lives in a lie doesn’t mean we have to!

Murder has been in existence forever, Covid-19 just 5 months, so of course many people know someone who has been murdered. On the other hand many more are dying of Covid this year than from murder.

Why shouldn’t a hospital receive PPP money? Even non-essential, frivolous businesses like beauty parlors received payments.

      • Kye says:

Because those “frivolous businesses” are the ones who are supposed to get that money because they were illegally closed down, not multi million dollar hospitals who laid off staff and still made millions by lying about the Chink Flu numbers. . So now you’re for giving the rich hospitals millions while screwing the little guy? Why did you change your mind? Oh, I see, since I received CARE money now it’s bad and should go to the rich Democrats. You really are an envious kunt aren’t you?

Trump 2020 We don’t need these commies ruining America.

My apologies. I didn’t realize you kept all your workers on your payroll.

I’m glad you recognize that billions went to corporations that took advantage of the system.

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Yes, non-essential businesses were closed to slow or even stop the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Essential businesses like stores, hospitals, insurance co, trash collectors, gas stations, fire stations, police stations were kept open. It worked until many states “re-opened” and started spreading the virus again. Many businesses were able to function near normal thanks to Skype, Zoom, telecons and emails.

Lie. Stats for murder aren’t provided for a current year. Now crime is supposedly down this year. I guess all the hoodla are social distancing.

So, I’ll bet do PACs that fund people like you.

Chances of meeting an infected person are currently 1 in 2400 the problem was the infection rate doubled exponentially every 2-3 days therefore the entire US population would have become infected end of May/June without the intervention of the likes of Cliff High and Dr Chris Martenson Dr Paul Cottrell and many others in making the immune vulnerable in the nation aware of a situation via the internet in JANUARY. One Government was ignoring.

You had a certain outcome based on a mathematical prediction which WOULD have come to pass, unless the average person did something, the obvious happened the curve bent because enough ordinary people changed at risk behaviors. This does not prove covid was a hoax or x & y works or not, it just means people sought out the best solution for their health they could and are still around to prove it. Death rates runaround 15 – 25% for symptomatics (50% get the bug but are asymptomatic spreaders) This would have resulted in 164 million infected by June with 49 million with life long conditions and at least 22 million deaths.

This is no longer 1917 where the population was kept in the dark for war reasons which is the very last time this could take place – outside China, in China there are in fact millions dead.
