As the death toll from the coronavirus climbed to 170, the World Health Organization declared a global health emergency on Thursday and U.S. health officials reported the first U.S. case of person-to-person spread of the virus.
The U.N. health agency defines an international emergency as an “extraordinary event†that constitutes a risk to other countries and requires a coordinated international response.
And there you have it folks. An now the first US CASE of it spreading. As I posted this morning, sources told me the WHO declaration was a forgone conclusion the people make the decision were fighting the need for precautions vs the need for the economy to survive and WHO is terribly underfunded.
If I was Trump I would demand the house expedite money and get it to WHO now. Today as well as making sure the CDC and NIH is well funded. In addition I would be gearing up the Military and the National Guard to prepare to mobilize.
This can be contained. I was infuriated that Fox News and CNN are all getting their doctors on the air to say, boo haa, haa. Keep buying, keep producing, keep working, everything is fine we are already working on a vaccine for this. It is impotent and a weak virus. Blah, Blah, Blah.

I am speechless that you would politicize what is going on with nCov. We have a worldwide pandemic I am posting reports with zero politics involved and you spit this out of your mouth.
As for the flu. The death rate is 1/10th of one percent.
With Sars, it was 9.7 percent a Cov illness and with nCov it is either 2 percent or over 5 percent depending on how you do the math. As I posted today, the New England Journal of medicine did a study suggesting the incubation is 3-6 days. So if we go back even 3 days, take the number of cases reported and divide by today’s deaths of 213 we have a death rate close to 5 percent.
We will not know until the event ends and we have the final numbers which we did for SARS.
Sars scared the world but in 8 months it only affected 8000 people and killed 750+. Today with nCov we have nearly 10k cases, 213 deaths in just a little over ONE month.
Try to remember that when you try to inject politics into something that is this deadly serious. We all look bad for things we say here from time to time. This is your shining moment Elwood.

I am speechless that you don’t realize that cuts to NIH, CDC and lack of support for WHO have negative consequences. One can’t dismantle our world health infrastructure and expect the response to be optimal to the next “coming plague”.
Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), part of HHS, funding runs out in May. The gov’t will no doubt put hundreds of millions of taxpayer monies on the credit card to combat the coronavirus outbreak, while at the same time they once again cut taxes on the wealthy and corporations, and cut the budgets of HHS, NIH and CDC.
Policies have consequences. It takes international resources (human, intellectual, research, medical, medicines, facilities) for us to remain vigilant and ready to manage these diseases. By definition a pandemic is global.

What conservatives hate (by conservatives I assume you mean anyone not so far left they’re RED) is the use of these programs to politicize medicine and health. That’s also why we don’t want you commies in control of our health plans.

A New England Journal of Medicine produced a study of the 4 German’s with nCov.
In this article, it was revealed that the nCov or Novel CoronaVirus Can be and in the case of the Germans WAS spread without symptoms being present. In addition, it was found that AFTER feeling better you are still contagious.
All 4 of these people were healthy adults and their incubation period was between 3-6 days. However, the second person was still contagious after feeling better 1 full week after contact with the woman who flew from China to a business meeting in Germany which is how this started.
Now for the really, really bad news.
The fear and why WHO announced a worldwide global emergency was that poorer nations with less sophisticated healthcare systems would be particularly hard hit.
As of last night our time INDIA confirmed its first case as did the Philippines. This is horrible news because both countries are ill-equipped to deal with this and in India’s case they live packed together and in most cases in very poor conditions.
Look for India and the Philippines to be swept with this virus.
On the positive side, It appears that in the USA and nations with good healthcare facilities such as the USA and Europe they are able to contain this virus and with good care if needed the death rate is almost non -existent and that is good unless this thing mutates.
I will keep digging and following this closely. The economic repercussions are going to be staggering. China has shut down.
