NY Times Continues Impeachment Fantasy, Now With A Way To Block A Second Term

This has fired up the unhinged #Resistance and #NeverTrumpers

Hey, if you can’t beat him at the ballot box under the established rules, right?

(NY Times) With chances rapidly increasing that President Trump will be impeached by the House and tried in the Senate, an intriguing question has reared its head: Could he be ousted only to try to return to the White House in 2020 in a Trumpian bid for redemption and revenge?

Like so much of the coming impeachment showdown, that decision rests entirely with the Senate. The Constitution famously grants senators the sole power to convict and remove a president — something that has never been done. What is seldom discussed is a more obscure clause of the Constitution that allows the Senate discretion to take a second, even more punitive step, to disqualify the person it convicts from holding “any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.”

Imposing that penalty would effectively bar the president from reclaiming his old job. In an added twist, tacking on the extra punishment requires only a majority vote in the Senate, not the two-thirds — or 67 senators — required to convict.

For now, the idea of disqualifying Mr. Trump is the remotest of hypotheticals, since it would first require the Senate to vote to impeach and remove him. That seems far-fetched, given how little appetite Republicans in the chamber have shown so far for deserting him, despite the flood of damaging revelations that have come forth in the impeachment inquiry. But if nearly two dozen Republicans did vote to impeach him, it would take only a simple majority to banish him from the presidency for life.

The first is not going to happen, so the second is a pipe dream. And that’s what these Trump haters have: pipe dreams. They just can’t control themselves in their virulent hatred. If Trump came out in favor of abortion, assault rifle confiscation, getting rid of fossil fuels, and the Green New Deal, they’d still find a way to oppose him.

“If the impeachment is based on the Ukraine phone call and activity around that, and the idea is that he is improperly using his office to get dirt on his opponent, the remedy to that is to remove him from office,” said Edward B. Foley, an election law authority and constitutional law professor at the Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law. “If the fear is the incumbent can’t fight a fair fight, then disable the candidate’s ability to not wage a fair fight.”

Politics is all about quid pro quo, about cajoling other politicians, nations, and people, using a stick or carrot. Move on, folks.

what this really boils down to is this…we don’t give 2 shits what the American people want, you get what we give you…and for electing orange man bad, we will show you who’s in charge…

An excerpt from an article by Charles Feldman at American Thinker. This is why we cannot reason with the left. They are their own government. And they don’t give a rats ass about this Republic. In fact, our very existence is an affront to them. They want us dead. Ask Fredo.

“What we are facing now is not partisan warfare, it’s not a mystery novel, it’s not politics-as-usual. We are facing an attempt to tear down the foundations of our republic by corrupt, unelected bureaucrats who have decided the will of voters is subordinate to their will to power. It represents a fatal threat to our system of government, and if this coup succeeds — whether through impeachment proceedings, or through an election that (if the last three years are any indication) the other side is clearly willing to steal by hook or by crook — the nation will cease to be a constitutional, democratic republic.

This isn’t about Trump, or Republicans, or conservatives. It is about Washington needing to learn that political differences have to be settled at the ballot box lest they instead be settled with an undermining of our constitutional norms and institutions.” Mollie Hemingway

“Since the 1930s when the administrative — that is to say, bureaucratic state — was birthed, we have moved into a new form of government in which the Constitution’s power vesting in the voters was largely done away with to be replaced by a self-perpetuating ruling elite of whom Republicans like Mitt (Pierre Delecto) Romney are avatars.

Under whatever professional job titles, the people who populate the institutions that exercise direct power over nearly all aspects of American life from birth to death are bureaucrats — university bureaucrats, corporate bureaucrats, local, state and federal bureaucrats, law enforcement bureaucrats, health bureaucrats, knowledge bureaucrats, spy agency bureaucrats. At each layer of specific institutional authority, bureaucrats coordinate their understandings and practices with bureaucrats in parallel institutions through lawyers, in language that is designed to be impenetrable, or nearly so, by outsiders. Their authority is pervasive, undemocratic, and increasingly not susceptible in practice to legal checks and balances. All those people together comprise a class.

Another thing that residents of the broad North American expanse between Canada and Mexico have noticed is that the programs and remedies that this class has promoted, both at home and abroad, have greatly enriched and empowered a small number of people, namely themselves — while the broader American population continues to decline in wealth, health, and education. Meanwhile, the American Empire that the ruling elite administers is collapsing. The popularity of such observations on both the left and the right is what accounts for the rise of Donald Trump, on one hand, and of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren on the other hand, among an electorate that has not been historically distinguished by its embrace of radicalism. Add those voter bases together, and perhaps 75% of Americans would seem to agree that their country, however you think of it, is in big trouble, and that the fault lies with the country’s self-infatuated and apparently not-so-brilliant elite.”

      Gomer,

No one wants you all dead.

It’s the right talking about starting a civil war if they don’t get their way. It’s the right claiming the Constitutional process of impeachment is a coup d’état.

What the left and right have in common is that we are all victims of the elites, both Dems and Repubs, who support policies that reward the wealthy at the expense of the working classes. It’s the result of unregulated capitalism. The elites are successful as long as we’re fighting.

And yet Mortimer was bragging about the Brown Wave destroying us until Trump put an end to it.

It’s the right talking about starting a civil war if they don’t get their way. It’s the right claiming the Constitutional process of impeachment is a coup d’état.

Then why is Pelosi Galore only now holding a vote if she said she didn’t need one?

Why is the hearing behind closed doors? You want a grand jury hearing, have one, but this is not a grand jury. As you so often whine, this is a political process.

It’s held behind closed doors because even Schiff For Brains knows there’s no there there.

What the left and right have in common is that we are all victims of the elites, both Dems and Repubs, who support policies that reward the wealthy at the expense of the working classes. It’s the result of unregulated capitalism. The elites are successful as long as we’re fighting.

Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your brains.

Isn’t that the way it goes?

        • Kye says:

” It’s the result of unregulated capitalism. The elites are successful as long as we’re fighting.”

Sorry but you need to tell us exactly which part of our “capitalism” is unregulated. Which industry fro energy to technology or from hospitality to medicine is “unregulated capitalism”? We want to know so we can get into that industry too. This country has been part capitalist, part socialist and overly regulated since the New Deal. To state otherwise is a lie.

The reason the elites are successful is because they run everything. From the leftist education and academic cabal to high tech information and media to entertainment and sports to law and banking. The billionaire/millionaire elites have become almost all leftists. Then they have their millions of useful idiots in the labor unions and the Deep State agencies who just want to keep their high paying, no termination, big benefit jobs. What chance has the over-regulated, over taxed, hard working small businessman or middle class family have? We finally get a President who isn’t afraid to break the Deep State and their operatives in the press and they spend three years “investigating” Russia and when that goes no where they start on “Ukraine” and when that fails they fake an “impeachment” behind closed doors. The entire system has been corrupted by the left and needs to be expunged.

      😀

      • Kye says:

“Ad hominem attacks are the last resort in political debates” Says the guy whose political comrades invented ad hominem attacks. You guys BEGIN every political discussion with attacks. But the real last resort are the lies you guys put out as your media co-conspirators lay cover. That’s where you really excel.

      • formwiz says:

Then why do Lefties always start off with them?

Unless they have no real rebuttal.

  4. John says:

In 2018 we did have a national election
Americans voted overwhelmingly against Our Dear Leader exceeding even the most liberal expectations
When Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about a BJ his approval ratings we’re in the high 60s

    • Kye says:

You obviously don’t know how to read election results. Trump garnered 304 electoral votes whereas Clinton got only 227. The “overwhelming” part was on Trump’s side. You do realize that we are a Constitutional Republic, don’t you? You should also realize we are because a democracy is no more than dictatorship by majority which is what you and your comrades seem to be advocating. You also realize the popular vote for Clinton came from two states and were mostly illegal from California? Do you want the population of two states determining the leadership of America especially when they do it through vote harvesting, illegal voting, non citizen votes and dead people votes?

    • Nighthawk says:

Why is it when people like you talk about the 2018 election, you only reference the results for the House and not mentioning the Senate results? Yes the House flipped but the republicans gained seats in the Senate. People think that having the opposite party in the majority of at least one of the houses of congress adds a bit of checks and balance to the executive branch. While that generally holds true, it hasn’t in this case. The demonrats in the House have done nothing but screech about Russia, Ukraine and impeachment for years and have accomplished nothing of any importance. People will see and remember this come election 2020.

    • formwiz says:

No, we had 50 state elections and 435 local elections. Even in the John, Bolshevik Bunny doesn’t understand how the Constitution works.

Americans voted overwhelmingly against Our Dear Leader exceeding even the most liberal expectations

The vote fraud helped tons, didn’t it?

When Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about a BJ his approval ratings we’re in the high 60s

So impeaching Trump is a lousy idea. But, then, those polls were probably as crooked as the ones we know are now.

  5. Doom and Gloom says:

AS JOHN brings up the impeachment of Clinton how about some fun facts that are lost on history.

Anyone remember the Bush Administration LYING about WMDS in Iraq?

How about this bit of information::

An impeachment vote was due for December 17 but was abruptly canceled after the U.S. launched airstrikes against Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. On December 19, the House approved two articles of impeachment against Clinton. The minor conflict with Iraq began due to Hussein’s reluctance to comply with United Nations weapons inspectors. It was known as Operation Desert Fox. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said in response to allegations that the bombing was a distraction, “I don’t think we’re pretending that we can get everything, so this is — I think — we are being very honest about what our ability is. We are lessening, degrading his ability to use this. The weapons of mass destruction are the threat of the future.”

    AND LATER:

A similar allegation surrounded Clinton’s bombing of terrorist bases in Sudan and Afghanistan in August 1998, around the time the president was due to appear before a grand jury. That operation was known as Infinite Reach.

SO this was in 1998. a couple years before we invaded Iraq the Democrats were claiming we had WMD’s and the Clintons’ used the military to distract the people, the MSM cheered and roared its approval, Clinton’s poll numbers rose, GOP sided with Democrats in the vote to not impeach and the rest is history.

A ONE PARTY STATE where the leaders of the 3 letter agencies give our leaders imperfect information in which to make decisions. This is why Trump was so reticent over information given him by these agencies.

Today we understand why the 3 letter agencies are at war with Trump.

  6. Kye says:

The 3 letter agencies are really at war with America, Trump is just the focus point. They hate the concept of Original Intent, a two party system, a Republic and they are given constant cover by their propaganda arm: the Fake News Media. That and all the little useful idiot obsequious sycophants like Fredo and John makes them a clear and present danger to our Republic, our society, our culture and our future.

As loyal Americans we need to find a way to either throw them out or eliminate them as Domestic Enemies.
