Climate Nutters Plan To Shut Down D.C. Commute This Morning

This should surely endear their cause to ordinary people, right? Especially since many who are commuting into D.C. vote Democrat already

(USA Today) Activists calling for action on climate change were disrupting morning commutes across Washington, D.C., Monday morning, just days after hundreds of thousands demonstrated alongside school children for Global Climate Strike rallies.

Shut Down D.C. aimed to “disrupt the systems that created and perpetuate the climate crisis” and block key intersections across the city to disrupt traffic.

Videos posted on social media showed protesters waving flags and tied to cars donned with banners that had messages like “ROAD CLOSED CLIMATE EMERGENCY” in the middle of major intersections. Police appeared to be breaking up some of the blockades.

The group said on its website that demonstrators would meet early Monday at four locations across the city, which are near high volume intersections, busy metro lines and Union Station.

Intersections including Massachusetts Avenue and North Capitol, New York Avenue and I-395, and 2nd Street SE and Independence Avenue were planned to be disrupted, and the group also was also planning to gather near the White House, Capitol Hill and ICE headquarters, the Washingtonian reported.

At a final training session Sunday, organizers said that each group has a different tactic.

They said they range from hosting a queer dance party to building a pipeline, to disabling cars at a stoplight.

Black Lives Matter D.C. said they’re going to take the opportunity to educate and help the community, so nurses will be giving free health screenings at their demonstration in Southeast.

    Fed govt employees were warned on Friday to expect delays. I got to work on time. higher than normal police presence in places where there are no protesters. I wonder if the City will be presenting a bill for the extra police to the protesters like they do for Trump. probably not.

    I find it amusing that groups who intend to shut down traffic as a protest, depend on open traffic themselves to get to their protest. It is obvious that the local police have no interest in disrupting this protest or their buses and “boats” would have been intercepted along the way.

    Piss off the wrong person, and some of those ridiculous protesters are going to get run over. We’re I on a DC jury, and some pissed off motorist was on trial for squishing about three dozen of them, I’d totally understand how he felt, would vote “Not guilty,” and would try to persuade the other jurors that jury nullification was proper in such a case. F(ornicate) them!
