Trump Ends Meeting With Schumer And Pelosi Over Refusal To Negotiate On Border Security If He Signs Legislation

Remember this from earlier?

Schumer added afterward: “There is an obvious solution: separate the shutdown from the arguments over border security. There is bipartisan legislation – supported by Democrats and Republicans – to re-open government while allowing debate over border security to continue.

That’s a talking point that has been repeated ad nauseum by Democrats, saying that they’ll be happy to negotiate on a border wall AFTER Trump signs legislation to reopen the tiny portion of government that is closed. Most Republicans, excluding unhinged #NeverTrumpers, say it’s a trap

Essentially, if Trump gives in and gives Democrats what they want, they’ll just walk away and refuse to discuss this in the future. It will be old news to them. There will be no discussion, and no border barrier.

And they get upset when we say they want open borders.

Let us not kid ourselves nor should Trump kid himself. He will not be reelected in 2020.

In 2016 he was running against the most corrupt and unliked Democratic candidate in perhaps one hundred years. In 2020 he will be running against someone who is not outwardly corrupt, facing FBI charges and is disliked by more people than liked.

In addition to this the person who he runs against will be mostly liked or tolerated as opposed to the open hostility of the left toward their own candidate. Beto O’Rourke fought Cruz to a standstill. He will most likely be the nominee. He is a ROCK STAR. Trump is an A-hole who gets stuff done.

Trump will use the same tactics and what he forgets is he had an awful lot of support by people who were anti- Hillary and not necessarily pro-Trump.

With that being said. Trump has a wild card up his sleeve for the Wall. Its called Ruth Bader Gingberg. trading a moderately left leaning judge to replace a far left judge in favor of 10 billion in wall funding would be an opportunity the left could ill afford to lose. If they say no. Then he will simply nominate another far right judge. Even Farther right than the last two and let Nancy and Chuck explain that to their voters or better yet let their 235 house members many of whom won in republican districts explain that to their home town voters.

The wall can be defunded. A supreme court nominee cannot. Trump is not going to be around in 2020. No matter what those on the right think he is just to unliked and he will not be running against someone even more unlikeable than himself. His record will not matter. What will matter is the country is growing Trump weary. I see it everyday from ordinary folks.

    • Hoss says:

Cute, as if Beto is the guy you want running on an anti-corruption campaign. Dude had an MSM rimming him 24/7, and all the money in the world, and he still couldn’t get across the finish line.

And like Trump would trade the wall for a Supreme Court Justice, especially after gaining more senators. You do love you some fantasy, don’t you.

      • MrDeLaGarzenzo says:

Make no mistake my sympathies lie with Conservatives. Trump proved corruption is not an issue in an election. He has forever changed the landscape of politics. Sexual misconduct and allegations abounded around him and yet he prevailed. Beto is a rock star because the LEFT and the MSM want him to be the next coming of Barak Obama.

As for a supreme court nominee the democrats will leave the country shut down until 2020 if Ginsberg dies. Already the GOP has a slight conservative tilt in the Supreme court for the next 20-30 years. Trading a MODERATE for a ultra liberal in order to fund the wall is a trade I would make any day of the week. Thats why I said 10 billion instead of 5. He could probably get full funding, put into a non revocable slush fund for the wall and get to work.

If the GOP are not willing to make trades, deals and concessions to get what they want then why should they expect the Democrats to do the same? Its a deal I would make but then I am more center right when it comes to politics. I believe in All Americans and all citizens need to be represented and increasingly Trump is being pushed to the right and away from his original promise to serve all Americans.

The wall for a moderate supreme court justice is a good trade however then you run into the Right which would never agree to it so once again we are left with one simple conundrum.

If the right won’t negotiate. Why should the left?

When one gets down to the root of the problem, Dems (Schumer and Pelosi) are shutting down the government over $5.7 billion in funding for border security.
Believe Pelosi refers to it as a “tinkling” contest.

          • MrDeLaGarzenzo says:

The problem I have for the 5.7 billion is that it does not represent the full amount needed. The US government does not ask for 400 billion for the defense department and then hope that sometime during the year they can get the other 400 billion to fund the rest of the year. It is funded.

With a small outlay of 5.7 billion yes, it will provide probably 2 years worth of work but then what? If Trump is put out of office we end up once again with an unfinished wall and Democrats in charge which will never spend a dime on the wall going forward.

It is similar to the Defense contracts. The pentagon pays for the f-22 raptor program and it goes forward. Getting it defunded is a massive undertaking by both/either side. The same needs to hold true with the wall or else we are getting the same runaround all politicians give all Americans.

Short Memory spans. A fence was funded. The left shouted hooray. It was the left after all in 2007 that was anti-illegal immigrant, not the right per se. The left believed this was depressing wages and hurting unions. Now the right has embraced this and the left is taking a more GOP stance of the wall is bad because we want these people in the country much like the GOP thought they were helping business by having cheap labor.

The GOP has become a populist movement. The Democrats are trying to do the same by moving farther left and putting them into full blown socialism/communism which they are no longer trying to hide. An Insideous plot by the left to quit teaching the historical significance of communism and its brutality and instead teaching the virtues of collectivism.

So long story shortend. Trump should now demand more money. He should turn up the pressure and demand more money because this shut down is on the Democrats. People are dying. Both immigrants and American citizens. This is not immoral, it is a president protecting his nation and asking for money to humanely treat the Illegals who are apprehended now.

This entire shutdown is on the democrats and it makes them appear they do in fact despise American citizens and favor Illegal human beings adopting the UN’s policy of flooding any country as a HUMAN RIGHT. SEE AOC for details.

The Democrats are sticking by their voters and their voters are illegals.
Totally and respectfully disagree with the post above by MrDeLaGarzenzo about 2020.

    • MrDeLaGarzenzo says:

I totally and respectfully respect your opinion. My post was strictly speculation. I have watched replays of the election over and over again trying to understand what happened. The one clear thing coming from a dozen networks covering this election was the absolute hatred for both candidates as well as the below 50 percent each candidate garnered as far as trust and honesty.

Of the last 10 presidents Trump has the lowest aggregate approval rating of them all including Jimmy Carter. I find it difficult to believe that if the Democrats run a respectable candidate that Trump can use the same strategy and get reelected.

It is an opinion based in a fair amount of research but an opinion none the less. Most on the right believed that hidden voter was coming out for the 2018’s and the GOP lost 42 seats. They did gain 3 senate seats in overwhelmingly conservative states so there is some hope. I for one would wish Trump to win reelection since he is spearheading a world wide return to nationalism as opposed to this fascist new world order which is quite honestly a scary thought no matter how optimistically you try to study it.

      • Liljeffyatemypuppy says:

It is an opinion based in a fair amount of research…

Agreed but an overwhelming amount of research and opinion put Hillary into the White House in 2016.

  3. Hoss says:

I’m old enough to remember when the democrat party liked actual American citizens more than the illegals.

  4. Kye says:

    That was long ago, Hoss.

  5. Professor Hale says:

Here are a few points to consider:
    1. Trump’s approval ratings are exactly the same as every other president since the creation of approval ratings. His supporters still support him. His enemies still hate him. The strength of their hatred is the only thing that has changed.
    2. Beta and Hillary (rock star vs corrupt Harridan) get exactly the same amount of support in the Democratic party. Exactly. That’s what partisan politics looks like. The party faithful will always support their candidate and tell themselves whatever lies they need to hear to make it go down without vomiting.
    3. You cannot trust any Polls. The only ones that matter are election day. Trump won his and that is the best predictor of his ability to do it again. All other polls are attempts by the democratic party controlled media to shape opinions, not measure opinions.
    4. Trump was elected for one primary issue: Immigration. Americans overwhelmingly are sick of the status quo, brought to us by status quo politicians. Se we elected an outsider to get things done. If Trump “gets things done” he gets re-elected, EASILY. If not, then it’s a close race again, just like every race since Reagan.
    5. The democrats have depended too much on character assassination lately. Their own people don’t believe their accusations any more. So now, being accused of sexual harassment, gang-rape, alcoholism, child molestation, etc are all just background noise that everyone should expect in any campaign.

  6. McGehee says:

It sounds like Trump has learned from what the Democrats did at various times to Reagan and both Bushes — often on this same issue, though Reagan and Bush 41 also got burned on fiscal promises as well.

It’s getting funny how the media are scraping the bottom of the barrel to find non-federal employees who are hurt by the shutdown. I just saw a piece about craft breweries not being able to roll out new beers because an agency that approves labels isn’t operating. The brewers can still brew and sell all the beers they’ve already introduced, but because the federal label inspectors are on furlough they can’t distribute Mid-January Pale Pilsnerized Lager Ale (Green Label).

Trump seems to know what he’s doing, and the Democrats don’t know how to fight back.
