House Democrats Look To Pass Bill Requiring Background Check On All Private Firearm Transfers

On one hand, would it be such a bad thing to have a background check before all purchases and transfers? I’ve stated that I would have no problem requiring a background check on a new gun purchase even though someone had one the previous month, because things can change. But, you know that Democrats will over-reach

House Democrats Plan Push to Criminalize Private Gun Sales

House Democrats plan to introduce legislation criminalizing private gun sales once the new Congress is in session.

Mother Jones reports that Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) met with gun control groups that included the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Everytown for Gun Safety, the Center for American Progress, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, and Gabby Giffords’ group. He asked them what they wanted, and a bill to criminalize private gun sales was on their wish list.

So Thompson will sponsor legislation requiring a background check before someone may buy a gun from his neighbor, a co-worker to get a background check before buying a gun from a co-worker, and so forth. The bill will go so far as to require a son to get a background check before a father can give him a gun as a gift.

Private gun sales are legal and have been an American tradition since 1791, the year the Second Amendment was ratified.

Ironically, a ban on private sales would not have stopped a single mass shooting witnessed to this point in the 21st century because nearly every mass shooter acquires his guns at retail via a background check. The exceptions to the rule are the mass shooters who steal their guns.

Interestingly, The Hill makes the same point

Some argue that universal background check legislation will close security gaps in gun purchases and help prevent mass shootings.

Others say that the background checks do not prevent shootings, pointing to the fact that several recent mass shooters, including the gunman who killed 17 people in Parkland Florida last February, passed background checks to obtain their firearms.

If Democrats were smart, they’d push to upgrade the background checks system and fix the existing issues, but, they’ll simply over-reach as they always do.

Meanwhile

Bruce McLaughlin Jr. and Timothy Dill put the jailbreak into motion sometime after 2 a.m. Tuesday. It was the graveyard shift at the jail in Pickens County, S.C., when their fellow prisoners were asleep and, if luck was on their side, the guards were less alert than usual. (they escaped)

But McLaughlin – a tattooed-neck felon who was jailed on charges of grand larceny and first-degree burglary, according to Newsweek – kicked in the kitchen door of a nearby house.

Inside, a woman lay in her bedroom, alone and asleep, authorities said.

McLaughlin picked up a footlong kitchen tool used to hone knives.

A few moments later, authorities received a 911 call.

It was the no-longer-sleeping woman. She had just shot a man, she told dispatchers, and he was dying on the floor outside her bedroom. She had no idea who he was, but he was wearing what looked like jail clothes.

Democrats want to make it much harder for women like the one above to obtain, keep, and carry a firearm. Many of their policies would have required that the gun be kept in a safe or with some sort of trigger lock, so, pretty much useless in the moment.

On paper all of this always looks benign and great and super intelligent.
However the buracracy gets ahold of this and morphs the law into something it was never designed to be. Therefore ANY federal government intervention into inalienable rights of the constitution I am vehemently opposed to because UNELECTED TRASH WILL CHANGE IT, morph it and go way, way, way beyond the original intent of any law, rule or regulation.

TEACH asks: would it be such a bad thing to have a background check before all purchases and transfers?

But his hatred and distrust of the other tribe makes him oppose any commonsense policy.

Regarding the woman who shot the intruder: good! There’s little reason to think a woman living alone near a prison wouldn’t pass a background check. The Supreme Court made clear she has a right to a firearm to defend herself. The proposed laws requiring trigger-locks or gun safes address firearms when NOT in control of the owners.

Jeffery’s as phony as a nine dollar bill.

      any commonsense policy.

When he comes up with one, you’ll see pigs flapping their wings.

That woman would probably be dead if he had his way.

There’s little reason to think a woman living alone near a prison wouldn’t pass a background check.

And why would that be. Jeffery trying to CHA is always a great leap in logic.

In any case, the House will “pass” all kinds of dreck to please the rubes like Jeffery, but none of them go anywhere.

    • Jethro says:

Covians: Do you agree or disagree with TEACHs idea to have background checks ‘before all purchases and transfers’?

How about his idea ‘to upgrade the background checks system and fix the existing issues’?

Do you agree with these gun control ideas?

About 10 years ago or so we had two state inmates walk away from cleaning the outside of the building at night (Stupid i know I was not in charge or even there) and no no one got fired over the it either. One inmate did it smart he got up on a billboard catwalk and waited for the pursuit to go past him. The second guy broke into a house about 5 miles away from the prison where an older couple was and held the woman hostage while the male went into another room got a gun came back and killed his sorry ass. The guy on the billboard got caught about a week later.

Where are we on my common sense proposals?
    1. Eliminate the BATFE
    2. Abolish the NFA as amended.
    3. Force the Armed Forces to sell on the civilian marketplace all obsolete equipment without “de-milling” them, including weapons, aircraft, ships, and vehicles.
    4. Require the Armed Forces to be armed with loaded weapons when they are on duty, everywhere (Air Force exempt).
    5. Make national concealed carry a civil right and no registration required.
    6. Allow no government to restrict any citizen from possession of firearms between the ages of 18-99. Exceptions only for those who are institutionalized and those who vote for communists (Democratic party, since we know communism always leads to mass murder).
    7. Require all public schools to teach gun safety using certified NRA best practices to include live fire practice.

Why are only the Left’s “common Sense” proposals ever considered? Why is this topic always supposed to move in favor of greater restrictions instead of greater freedom?

    • Jethro says:

You should run for office on that platform.

      • formwiz says:

Yeah, he’d probably do so well, your Demos would need to get out the vote fraud machine to beat him.

        • Jethro says:

The House Dems are threatening to not seat the fraudulent GOPher who cheated to ‘victory’ in NC.

tRump was only elected with the help of the Russian government, who wanted him so they could manipulate him. Mission Accomplished!

We’ve noted that Con Men overestimate the popularity of their bizarre notions. That’s why you are forced to steal elections.

          • Jeffeatsthed says:

            Snigger

          • formwiz says:

No, you steal elections, we have it on tape. And I notice the Demos didn’t talk much about banning firearms during the last election.

But the Demos will seat those ballot harvested fraudsters from CA.

So, according to the numbers, turnout in most of those CA districts was double the usual rate and 3 times (120%) in one. But I do hope they want to make a fight of it, all the way to SCUS, when we have a 6-3 majority that will declare ballot harvesting unconstitutional and all those Orange County vote thieves null and void.

And, if Trump was elected by the Russkies, where’s Mule Ears’ proof? So far, he’s shown us nada.

        • Kye says:

The commies sorry, dems once again changed the terminology. It’s no longer a “fraud machine” now it is referred to as “ballot mining” in a low, genteel voice. Cause everybody knows there’s no such thing as voter fraud. That’s why six out of six recounts in Cali went for the commies democrats.

          • Jethro says:

They’re still investigating the Nazi Republican NC voter fraud.

If California Dems cheated, why did the odious Devin Nunez and odiouser Duncan Hunter get re-elected?

How many close House races were there in CA? Can you point out a few?

  5. formwiz says:

Because they were so popular in their districts, they won not only the margin of victory, but also the margin of Democrat fraud.

But the Demos want us all to believe there was 80% turnout in an off-year election in most of those districts and 120% turnout in one. When you have more ballots than there are people, it’s tough for the race to be close.

And you have the wrong party if you’re talking about Nazis. Antifa tries to be your SA and Zippy’s GM bailout was pure National Socialism.

As I always say, Bell & Howell never made a bigger projector than Jeffery.

    • Jethro says:

GOPher Valadao just conceded to Dem Cox in CA21. Clinton won CA21 in 2016, so doesn’t it seem reasonable that a Dem would win in 2018?

Do you have any evidence of vote fraud?

  6. formwiz says:

In the interests of background, Trump’s EO after the elections ordered a gathering of all vote fraud evidence.

And it won’t be the Demos who decides who’s seated and when.

    It will be Trump.

    • Jethro says:

And it won’t be the Demos who decides who’s seated and when.
      It will be Trump.

LOL. What’s the mechanism for Hitler tRump deciding?

Remember tRump’s fraud commission headed by KKKobach? LOL. Shut down with no data.

You are filled to the brim with shit.

  7. Professor Hale says:

I don’t know why you guys keep feeding the troll. He isn’t going to learn. You aren’t going to “win”.
