Your Fault: ‘Climate Change’ Is Making The Earth Wobble

If only you had forgone your use of a fossil fueled vehicle, had given up meat, started taking 2 minute showers, moved into an off-the-grid shack, and, really, just killed yourself because Warmists complain about too many people on Earth

Climate Change Causing the Earth to Wobble? NASA Says, Yes!

Climate change is impacting how Earth spins on its axis, NASA says.

Over the past century, Earth’s axis – the imaginary line that passes through the North and South Poles – has drifted about 4 inches, and a decrease in Greenland’s ice mass is the main contributor to the wobble, the space agency has announced.

As temperatures increased throughout the 20th century because of humans, Greenland’s ice mass decreased.

“A total of about 7,500 gigatons — the weight of more than 20 million Empire State Buildings — of Greenland’s ice melted into the ocean during this time period,” NASA said in a press release. “This makes Greenland one of the top contributors of mass being transferred to the oceans, causing sea level to rise and, consequently, a drift in Earth’s spin axis.”

The agency notes that while melting has occurred at other locations, including Antarctica, Greenland’s location has had a greater influence on Earth’s wobble.

“There is a geometrical effect that if you have a mass that is 45 degrees from the North Pole — which Greenland is — or from the South Pole (like Patagonian glaciers), it will have a bigger impact on shifting Earth’s spin axis than a mass that is right near the Pole,” said coauthor Eric Ivins.

See? Your fault. They forgot to supply evidence that this is all the fault of humanity (that’s the way they position it above), they just assume it. Can they explain what the wobble was during the Little Ice Age? How about the Medieval Warm Period? And the previous warm and cool periods during the Holocene? Certainly with science one needs a control group for this, do they not?

Nah. That’s not the MO of the Cult of Climastrology. And we can’t fix this without taxes/fees and you giving up your liberty.

Yes, must be the first time in 4.5. billion years this has ever happened…….

It rankles me when a supposed “authority ” or “expert” doesn’t even get basic geography correctly. Greenland isn’t anywhere near 45 degrees north. The southern most point of Greenland lies at 59 degrees north and some change. If the article said something like “within 45 degrees” that argument might have SOME validity, but not knowing or expressing that the closest 45 degrees north comes to Greenland is a little north of Halifax, Nova Scotia is just lazy.

This explains a lot. I thought I was drinking too much, but the Earth IS wobbling. So it’s not me.

  4. RufusTBass says:

I remember being told about the earth wobbling as well as the tilting that causes the seasons as far back as the late 1960s when I was in grade school.

When I see things like this, I have a tendency to do something really radical; I do the math!

The polar radius of the earth is 3,950 miles, or 20,856,000 feet, or 250,272,000 inches. The axial tilt has moved a whopping four inches.

That works out to 0.000000079913055% of a degree or arc.

We’re doomed, I tell you, doomed!

    • Jethro says:

The article didn’t mention doom, in fact, stating that it no day to day difference, except to potentially make GPS less accurate.

So, what does this change in Earth’s rotation change for us here on Earth’s surface?

Nothing that dramatically changes the day-to-day life, but the shift can impact the accuracy of GPS and other satellite functions, NASA notes.

tRump/Putin/McConnell/GOP are evaluating their political options at this time. Yesterday’s staged Kabuki theatre with actors Kavanaugh/Graham/tRump twittering was to give the GOP plausible deniability regardless of outcome.

Confirming Kavanaugh hurts the GOP in November, but solidifies their stranglehold on the US economy for their true constituency, the corporate/donor/wealthy class. But this leaves them more vulnerable in Nov, since most of the US abhors tRump and Kavanaugh (and his performance yesterday, while helping with the base, hurt with Dems and Independents).

If they don’t confirm Kavanaugh (and they carefully orchestrated blaming the Clintons, Dems and big-money leftists) this will activate the base and may help in November.
