Excitable Joe Romm: Trump’s Re-election Could Maybe Lead To A Climate Death Spiral

But, hey, remember, this is all about science!

Why Trump’s reelection may lead to a climate death spiral

Do we really need to go beyond the unhinged headline? Seriously, maybe it would be best to call these people Climatruthers, like the 9/11 conspiracy nutjobs were called Truthers or Twoofers, because both think that they are using science to push conspiracy theories. Well, let’s go on, so I can drop a graphic in

Our current climate is near the very edge of stability, according to a major new study by 16 leading climate scientists.

We are pushing the planet toward an irreversible “Hothouse Earth” — catastrophic warming of 9°F (5°C) or more with sea level rise of up to 200 feet — the study warns. And we may be much closer to the “point of no return” than most people realize.

Simply meeting the near-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions targets that more than 190 nations agreed to in the 2015 Paris Climate Accord is not enough to be certain of avoiding this fate, the study states.

(blah blah blah to the end)

What’s news is that one international team of scientists say we may be close to the point of no return for the Hothouse Earth — and that we have a president, who, if he is able to continue his climate-destroying policies into a second term may make  avoiding that point of no return all but impossible.

The climatruthers will be singing the same “doom is juuuuuuust around the corner” song a 100 years from now as the climate flips to a Holocene cool period.

Jolly old Al Roker says that fewer hurricanes predicted for this season is caused by climate change. Well, CC never gave us more hurricanes as predicted, so why not switch the talking points to cover all bases? https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gifhttps://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gif

Here is a transcript of Roker’s August 10 report:

    7:35 AM ET

CRAIG MELVIN: Al Roker’s standing by with a check of that weekend forecast. Hey there.

AL ROKER: Hi guys. And just in, we have an update for our hurricane season 2018 from the National Hurricane Center. So far this year, four named storms, two hurricanes. On average, we’d get two named storms by this time and one hurricane. However, the forecast, the August update is that we’ve got a 60% chance of a below-normal hurricane season. That would be great news.

There are a couple of reasons for this. Unfortunately, because of the rapidly melting icecaps due to climate change, the sea surface temperatures in the tropical Atlantic are much colder than average. So, all that ice, that literally ice water coming into the Atlantic, keeping things cool. And a developing El Nino may actually increase wind shear, basically, tear apart storms as they come off the coast of Africa.

Yes, still waiting on the elusive death spiral…

It’s funny that since 2016 the earth’s temperature has been steadily cooling.
    What else happened in 2016?
