‘Climate Change’ Is Humanity’s Greatest Threat, Say U.N. Chief

Have to keep the scare factor going, you know

(Weather Channel) Climate change is the greatest threat to humankind, the head of the United Nations said Thursday, noting that “a tsunami of data that should create a storm of concern.”

Speaking at a press Q&A at U.N. headquarters in New York, U.N. Secretary General António Guterres called climate change “the most systemic threat to humankind” and called on world leaders to reduce their countries’ greenhouse gas emissions.

Guterres said the world reached several “dire milestones in 2017,” including the economic costs of climate-related disasters that hit a record $320 billion and the atmospheric concentrations of CO2, methane and nitrous oxide, which he said are the “highest they have been in 800,000 years.”

“Energy-related carbon dioxide emissions rose 1.4 percent, to 32.5 gigatonnes, a historic high,” Guterres said. “In 2017, the hurricane season in the Caribbean was the costliest ever, un-doing decades of development in an instant.”

So, in the decade plus with minimal tropical storm activity, especially for major hurricanes, that was just nature. One big season, and it’s Doom caused by carbon pollution.

“I am beginning to wonder how many more alarm bells must go off before the world rises to the challenge,” Guterres said. “We know it can be hard to address problems perceived to be years or decades away. But climate impacts are already upon us.”

Why should we listen to people who refuse to practice what they preach? Who have oversized carbon footprints?

I agree, it is. When the next ice age starts and the climate shifts to making glaciers and ice sheets a couple of miles thick for the next 100,000 years or so, it will be one of humanities biggest threats.

So far they haven’t been able to show me a warmer world is a threat at all. They keep saying “Trust us”, but they provide absolutely no proof whatsoever. Historical records (Roman and Medieval Warm Periods) show a warmer climate is more hospitable. History also shows a colder climate is not.

Even if you ignore the expected changes in regional climate, given a warmer world, sea level rise is a threat to coastal areas where a large segment of the human population lives. That will result in the loss of arable land and mass human migration. And that will result in political and social conflict.

I live beside the Pacific Ocean and it must be only the Atlantic Ocean that is rising since I haven’t noticed any rise in my area. Much like one end of your bathtub can be higher than the other end I suppose. I know that as of January of this year the Maldives were supposed to be totally submerged as well although that dates seems to keep getting pushed back when it doesn’t happen. The local city of Victoria was supposed to be underwater as well according to the Sierra Club, my shares in the local Gondola businesses are worthless now since that hasn’t happened either. My belief in “science” has been shattered with all the revelations of the NOAA making adjustments to historical records to fit current predictions. I don’t think they teach any of the hard sciences in school anymore since most people seem to accept this soft fluffy science they are currently selling them, and it is a sales job since we are all paying for it.

Of course, your bathtub water isn’t exposed to the winds, the tides and the Earth’s orbits.

Were Victoria and Maldives really supposed to be under water according to climate scientists?

We’re sorry your faith in science has been shattered, but correcting or adding more or more reliable data should be encouraged. Do you not understand that the Earth is warming or do you, like many so-called skeptics, think the warming data are fraudulent? What would you replace science with?

  4. Jl says:

Much of the warming data is fraudulent.
