NY Times Blames Democrats On One Hand, Republicans On Other For Any Shutdown

The NY Times seems a bit confused. Here’s how the Editorial Board puts it

Here’s Another Fine Mess They’ve Gotten Us Into

One could almost — but not really — feel sorry for Republicans. This is a mess President Trump created, and Republicans are tiptoeing around him trying to fashion a temporary fix that he won’t demolish with a tantrum or a tweet.

In September Mr. Trump abruptly decided he’d be ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which protects hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought illegally to this nation as children from deportation. The president has lately been demanding billions of dollars for a wasteful wall along the Mexican border — you know, the one Mexico was supposed to pay for — as a price for a measure that allows these young people, known as Dreamers, to remain here.

See? It’s Trump’s fault for ending an un-Constitutional program (hey, Obama called it that), causing Democrats to refuse to vote for any short term funding in their support for illegals.

Then you have this under the bigger story of the House passing a bill for short term funding, mostly along party lines (6 Dems said yes to it, 11 Republicans said no)

Senate Democrats Appear Ready to Block the Measure

The House approved a stopgap spending bill on Thursday night to keep the government open past Friday, but Senate Democrats — angered by President Trump’s vulgar aspersions and a lack of progress on a broader budget and immigration deal — appeared ready to block the measure. (snip)

In the Senate, at least about a dozen Democratic votes would be needed to approve the measure, and there was little chance that those would materialize. Democrats are intent on securing concessions that would, among other things, protect from deportation young immigrants brought to the country illegally as children, increase domestic spending, aid Puerto Rico and bolster the government’s response to the opioid crisis.

All of those could be done in separate spending bills, but, really, the only thing Democrats care about is the illegal alien Dreamers, and they’re willing to shut the government down, potentially harming American citizens.

80% of Americans, most Republicans and even tRump understand that the “Dreamers” should be protected. The Republicans control the White House and both Houses of Congresses. Give them their green cards and move on.

Unfortunately, the GOP is terrified of the tRump white nationalist base.

  2. Jeffery says:

Americans are the fairest people on Earth, and they want their elected officials, Dems AND Repubs, to start acting that way as well. We mostly agree that the “Dreamers” need protected status, that we need to increase border security, that CHIP funding needs to continue and that we don’t need to erect an expensive and mostly useless “Wall”.

Congress has earned their benthic approval.

We are the fairest people on earth, and I want us to be fair to immigrants, treating them all alike. If they are here legally, they can stay, and if they are here illegally, they have to go. What coulod be more fair than that?

      • Jeffery says:

So you believe that children brought here by their parents should be deported. OK. Most Americans disagree with you. What is your reasoning for deporting these folks? Treating everyone alike?

        • david7134 says:

          Jeff,
They are here illegal and need to be deported, it is that simple. Why is that a problem for you. How about giving them a special citizen status that prevents them from voting or getting government handouts.

          • Jeffery says:

Because it serves no purpose to deport them. It doesn’t help America. They would not be citizens but would receive “green” cards. They would be eligible to become citizens eventually.

A Green Card holder (permanent resident) is someone who has been granted authorization to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis.

They are not citizens and can not vote. Our Director of Chemistry was a green card holder for several years who recently applied for and became a proud US citizen. I’ve known him for 11 years.

          • david7134 says:

Better just to send them back.

    • Dana says:

I do love how the left say that we should “increase border security,” but oppose building the wall. Walls work, and if the wall won’t provide perfect security, it’ll still help, probably a lot.

      • Jeffery says:

There is no evidence that a “Wall” will work any better than fencing (as they built in San Diego in the 90s) or more border agents.

    • david7134 says:

Obama out is 10 trillion in the hole and now the liberals are worried about money.

      • Jeffery says:

        dave,

Do you remember the Great Recession that President Obama inherited on top of the burgeoning Bush debt? Bush doubled the national debt by his unwise and unfair tax cuts and his unfunded invasion of the wrong country. During President Obama’s tenure, which early on included the depths of the Great Recession (thanks Greenspan!), the debt doubled again, paying for unemployment, costs of the continued Iraq debacle, Medicaid, the Obama tax cuts, lost wages, lost tax collections… tRump promises to add even more to the debt with his unwise and unfair tax cuts and associated increases in American’s health care costs (thanks conservatives!).

Do you agree with Republicans that we should have CUT government spending during the worst recession since the Great Depression?

The money saved by exporting the invaders will pay for the wall.

No illegal alien DACA recipient should have their DACA application approved until their parents have admitted to the human trafficking crimes and have self-deported to their home countries.
