BERLIN—Germany’s naval brass in 2005 dreamed up a warship that could ferry marines into combat anywhere in the world, go up against enemy ships and stay away from home ports for two years with a crew half the size of its predecessor’s.
First delivered for sea trials in 2016 after a series of delays, the 7,000-ton Baden-Württemberg frigate was determined last month to have an unexpected design flaw: It doesn’t really work.

Defense experts cite the warship’s buggy software and ill-considered arsenal—as well as what was until recently its noticeable list to starboard—as symptoms of deeper, more intractable problems: Shrinking military expertise and growing confusion among German leaders about what the country’s armed forces are for.

A litany of bungled infrastructure projects has tarred Germany’s reputation for engineering prowess. There is still no opening date for Berlin’s new €6 billion ($7.2 billion) airport, which is already 10 years behind schedule, and the redesign of Stuttgart’s railway station remains stalled more than a decade after work on the project started. Observers have blamed these mishaps on poor planning and project management, which also figured in major setbacks for several big military projects.

THIS is what Socialism will Bring the USA. A nation of progressives who hate the Military. Open borders and a new world order is in full swing in Europe turning a once powerful nation into a bunch of hapless half-wits.

Protect your land. Your enemies are not hapless. Only your allies.

    jeff,
Again you can’t help but taking on topics for which you have no clue. Yes, the Chinese and even the Russian have advanced weapon systems. But there are secret weakness to their systems that compromise them. The Chinese are not nearly as powerful as you would suspect. One thing that is bothering our military is that the Chinese are building a hospital ship. This is a major concern. Now, I can also tell you that under Bush and Obama our military have suffered to a great extent. But in just a few months, Trump is correcting that situation.

Now, if you want to see the results of socialism, try studying the eastern front in WWII. You see, the Russians actually won the war, but not by advanced technology, but by excessive deaths, that is socialism. Also, Russia deployed bacterial weapon system in the conflict, very little known.

      dave,

We’re not convinced you know about ANYTHING. That said, the comments were about civilian infrastructure, not the military. The US spends more on defense than China, Russia, Germany, Israel, UK, Saudi Arabia, Iran, France, India, Pakistan, combined. It’s hard to make the case we’re spending too little.

We’ll see if the Republicans can push through a yuuge infrastructure building program. It was a shame the GOP resisted such a program during the Great Recession. Depending on how much the GOP wants to reward donors and yuuge corporations rather than build infrastructure, the Dems will cooperate.

  3. Rotterdam says:

And how is the US infrastructure today?

Trump wants infrastructure spending. The democrats will fight him or face being primaried because infrastructure would benefit the right and Trump at the cost of the democrats jobs in the house and senate. Its been crumbling for decades and most of it is the result of the states not spending for their own cities and towns. Somehow they all want the government to run new sewer lines or build them new airports.

Obama used the budget to slash so much defense budget that the Military had to stop flying because they could not find parts to fix the planes nor did they have enough pilots to fly them. In addition the US military had several collisions at sea which occurred under Obama and later Trump who was dealing with a military that had no money to even train their people.

this is exactly the scenario going on all across Europe. Governments spend billions of Euros claiming it is military Nato spending when in reality they are building a new hosptial to cover their welfare healthcare system. One good thing I guess, if there is ever a war in Europe they can at least heal their 10 soliders who are actually on the payroll.
