Surprise: Democrats Admit They Support Legalizing Dreamers For The Votes

As Jazz Shaw notes, this is something we were all thinking, but couldn’t prove. Till the Daily Caller got their hands on this memo

The Center For American Progress (CAP) Action Fund circulated a memo on Monday calling illegal immigrants brought here at a young age — so-called “Dreamers” — a “critical component of the Democratic Party’s future electoral success.”

The memo, co-authored by former Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri, was sent around to allies calling on Democrats to “refuse to offer any votes for Republican spending bills that do not offer a fix for Dreamers and instead appropriate funds to deport them.” (snip)

“The fight to protect Dreamers is not only a moral imperative, it is also a critical component of the Democratic Party’s future electoral success,” reads Palmieri’s memo, obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“If Democrats don’t try to do everything in their power to defend Dreamers, that will jeopardize Democrats’ electoral chances in 2018 and beyond,” reads the memo. “In short, the next few weeks will tell us a lot about the Democratic Party and its long-term electoral prospects.”

While it doesn’t say it in plain language, the implication is quite clear: the Democrats need the votes from illegal aliens given free citizenship with the ability to vote. And the majority of illegals will vote Democrat. Certainly, you can read this as them meaning that if the Democrats don’t vote for full citizenship for Dreamers, then typical Democrat voters will be turned off and not vote Democrat, but, that wouldn’t happen. Sure, the base which supports people who are unlawfully present would be upset, but they’d still show up to vote. This is all about the 800,000 or so Dreamers. Nothing else.

Democrats only truly care about the Dreamers in the way they care about other minorities, women, and so forth: as voting blocks. Once you get beyond the typical talking points about caring and morals and the rest they yammer about, everyone is put in a Box and pandered to to get their vote. Beyond that, most Dem policies are not good for people in the long run.

Meanwhile, the Democrats finally found a judge (Clinton appointed, in San Francisco) to put a hold on DACA, an extra-legal, un-Constitutional program, which Obama even admitted to, from ending

(Reuters) A U.S. judge in San Francisco temporarily barred President Donald Trump’s administration on Tuesday from ending a program shielding young people brought to the United States illegally by their parents from deportation.

U.S. District Judge William Alsup ruled in San Francisco on Tuesday the program must remain in place while the litigation is resolved. The ruling could complicate negotiations between Trump and congressional leaders over immigration reform.

Alsup ruled that the federal government did not have to process new applications from people who had never before received protection under the program. However, he ordered the government to continue processing renewal applications from people who had previously been covered.

“DACA gave them a more tolerable set of choices, including joining the mainstream workforce,” Alsup wrote. “Now, absent an injunction, they will slide back to the pre-DACA era and associated hardship.”

This is like a judge ordering the government to stop arresting people involved in petty crime, simply because it might cause a hardship to petty thieves.

The statements don’t mean what you (and the odious Daily Caller rag) imagine they mean.

800,000 potential voters in the future are a drop in the bucket for either party. Even if every “Dreamer” voted for a Dem they constitute less than 0.5% of registered voters.

Contrary to right-wing dogma, undocumented immigrants do not vote.

The point the authors are making is that if Dems don’t support “Dreamers” they may cede the Hispanic vote to Repubs, a proposition that also, at least in part, drives the Republican talk of “bill of love” and “comprehensive immigration reform”.

In fact, you nearly got it right, but then dismissed your own interpretation:

you can read this as them meaning that if the Democrats don’t vote for full citizenship (btw- this is not what the Dems are proposing) for Dreamers, then typical Democrat (sic) voters will be turned off and not vote Democrat (sic)

But of course, in partisan America, the truth matters little, especially to the right.

The plight of the “Dreamers” is a test of American humanity and morality. It’s appearing that the dwindling minority insisting on deportation will be overwhelmed and lose this.

  2. Jeffery says:

GOPhers in the House (except the Teabagger Spawn, the “Freedom” Cockus) and Senate and even the president make it clear that American will not deport the “Dreamers” – much to the consternation of the white nationalist minority. The American people will not stand for tracking down and expelling these people – even if “the law is the law.” They will change the law, eazy-peazy.

So, they will reach a compromise giving the “Dreamers” permanent status and likely a path to citizenship. Mr. Trump’s Wall (that Mexico will pay for, LOL) will become a figurative wall of tightened fences, more agents, heightened surveillance… actually resulting in more border security than a Wall would afford (at least according to the GAO). And it will be paid for by taxpayers.

    Chain migration will be tightened.

These are actions that all but the white nationalist far-right agree on.

We all realize that yesterday’s meeting was a video op orchestrated by his staff to combat his very, very bad week of appearing incapacitated by the demands of the office. Rep McCarthy had to correct him yesterday when Trump agreed with Senator Feinstein that Congress would fix DACA outright, with no conditions. Otherwise, Trump seemed docile – probably an adjustment in his meds.

The question is: Does this mean Mr. Trump is actually abandoning his white nationalist (the Bannonites) base or is this just another one of his disrupting lies to be blown up by a tweet?

N.B. – The ruling by the US Federal judge removes some pressure from Congress making the Dems much less likely to sacrifice the “Dreamers” by the Jan 20 funding deadline.

True, but only if there had been a previous gov't program granting petty thieves the right to steal. To our knowledge there is no such program for petty thieves (although we DO protect corporate and gov't thieves).

If a judge ruled that the Trump family had to stop slopping from the public trough, we're certain that a cadre of Trump lawyers would argue it's a hardship on the family.

And tht is just based on reported crimes.

A tenant of the “legalize illegal immigrants” movement is that by legalizing them, crime would go down because illegals are afraid to report crimes. (Except, of course, for the crime of being in the country illegally.)

  4. Jeffery says:

Do you need more red flags than Tucker, The Gateway Pudendum and FOX? To be honest, we DON’T expect better from you, j, but some of your other cesspoolian commenters know better. The newly venerated white nationalist movement will lap up this wet dream of a report.

Based on The mother-Tucker’s reporting, we’re led to believe that undocumented immigrants commit some 4000 murders a year! Does that make sense to you? Wouldn’t FOX have pointed this out by now?

    Here’s what BowTuck said:

“Non-citizens account for 22 percent, more than a fifth of all

    federal

    murder convictions.”

Did you catch that? Federal murder convictions. Get it now? Almost all murder convictions in the US are state convictions. How many federal murder convictions were there in 2016? A little under 100, 19 by undocumentos. Do you think the 19 federal murder convictions are robust enough data to project that 22% of US murders were committed by undocumented immigrants. We don’t either. We think Tuck was trying to pull a fast one on you guys. Using tiny sample sizes to extrapolate to the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants. You shouldn’t put up with it.

72% of the over 1.5 million drug arrests were of undocumented immigrants? That’s over one million drug arrests each year! Does that pass the smell test? How was the government able to hide this information for so long?

33% of all money laundering? Poor of these workers, many arrested and convicted of drug crimes, are also laundering money through the resorts, hotels and casinos they work for??

Let’s assume that The Tuck Man is not outright lying and is using actual data to mislead you. That begs the question as to why undocumented immigrants are overrepresented in the FEDERAL crime database. Any ideas?

      As it ever was.

Statistics and reading comprehension are beyond the grasp of the little guy.

    • Jeffery says:

you can’t refute what he said

I just did. Tucker misled you. And you fell for it. Do you really believe that 72% of drug possession convictions in the US are of undocumented immigrants? Really? Not even you are that jaded.

Tucker the Con Man took a tiny biased sample and applied it to the entire population and you fell for it.
