California Companies Are Fearful Of Trump Deportation Orders Or Something

The media is slowly turning from Outrage over Trump’s illegal aliens plans to Outrage over the federal government not forcing little girls to accept penis in their bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers in schools of all levels, but, there are still a few holdouts, such as the LA Times

Trump’s promise to ramp up deportations spreads fear — among California businesses

The news that President Trump ordered an aggressive crackdown on 11 million undocumented people sent a chill through immigrant communities. California businesses that employ lots of immigrants are shivering too.

If they employ lawfully present workers, what’s the problem? If they’re employing illegal aliens, then they are in violation of criminal code.

Two memos released by Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly on Tuesday directed immigration officers to broaden the scope of their enforcement, conduct more raids of immigrant communities, and detain people living here illegally regardless of whether they had a criminal record.

Those marching orders could hit the California economy particularly hard. Many of the industries that depend heavily on immigrants already were experiencing a labor shortage.

Undocumented workers make up 10% of the labor force in California, USC researchers have estimated, and form a large chunk of the employment that drives massive industries such as agriculture and construction.

So, we’re worried about some California companies who are in violation of 8 US Code 1324a, especially if they are not doing due diligence to make sure the person is lawfully present? Let them face the fines and potential jail time for blowing off the law.

“In the urban, rich economies of California, the high-end jobs are for U.S. born [workers] and the service, low-end jobs are for immigrants. Immigrants have adjusted to the high-cost environment, and that’s a way for them to absorb this cost,” said Giovanni Peri, an economist at UC Irvine.

Immigrants tend to live in tight quarters and move around a lot in order to cushion the blow of expensive real estate in California’s biggest cities, something that native-born Americans may be less willing to do, Peri said.

Now, that’s an interesting notion: California has made things so expensive that only legal migrant workers and illegal aliens will do certain jobs. This is how Progressivism works in reality. What happens when they raise the minimum wage to $15, and things implode further? Anyhow, super lower class loving Progressive Californian’s apparently like the idea of a permanent underclass to serve them in the fields and places like supermarkets and restaurants.

Madelyn Alfano, president of Maria’s Italian Kitchen, which operates nine restaurants and employs 400 workers, said anxiety about deportation had spread throughout her workforce.

Alfano, who emphasized that she hired documented workers, said her employees still worry about family members who are in the country illegally.

People wonder “‘what’s going to happen if my wife or my child or someone else in my family is taken away?’” Alfano said.

There several sob stories like this in the article, where they all stress they only hire legals. If they’re legal, why the concern? Might be a case of protesting too much.

Agreed. Go after the criminal employers.

trump has employed many, many “illegals”.

    Lock him up?

Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up!

If you had looked one sentence above in your own cut and paste you’d see:

People wonder “‘what’s going to happen if my wife or my child or someone else in my family is taken away?’” Alfano said.

The same thing that happens to any other criminals “wife and child” when he’s thrown in prison for committing a crime. Why should a criminal immigrant be treated any differently than a criminal American? If they’re so concerned about their family they shouldn’t be breaking the law. And why should we be more concerned over their family than they are? Screw’em.

    • That’s one problem with the new laptop: I tap on the touchpad by accident (I use a mouse), I can erase things. Like the word “are”.

As for the second, if they’re legal, why would they be taken away? If they’re here illegally, well, they’re criminals. What part of “unlawfully present” are you not getting?

  3. Jeffery says:

trump’s attacks on immigrants have nothing to do with keeping America safe or helping the economy. Nothing. Even President Reagan recognized that.

Pure and simple he’s attacking immigrants because 1) it’s celebrated in the land of American deplorables 2) the immigrants can’t fight back and 3) he’s a cowardly bully (like his supporters).

    • Rev.Hoagie® says:

Trumps not “attacking” immigrants, he’s enforcing the law. Why don’t you take in an immigrant? Come on, put your money where your lying mouth is. If you really cared about the plight of the “poor immigrant” you’d take AT LEAST one family and feed, clothe, house, educate, and insure them like you expect the rest of us to do. You’re a lying hypocrite!

You won’t take in an immigrant family because 1) You’re so busy calling real Americans names you don’t care 2) you want to hurt America and we Americans because 3) you hate our country and are an unpatriotic traitor.

    • All Trump’s doing is enforcing laws Democrats passed.

    • Rev.Hoagie® says:

An interesting article, drowningpuppies, but I don’t buy half of the figures quoted. They sound made up.* I’m also in a quandary as to how a businessman, even in agriculture which seems as much a business as any other could act and think so disconnected about the relationship of wages and job applicants. I noticed there was no mention of the impact of wage increases to a raise in garlic prices.

      * I don’t buy most statistics quoted in the media as they have proven themselves to be cherry pickers at least and out and out liars at most. We all know the LA Times is a propaganda arm of the DNC/CCUSA and therefore is one of the most notoriously untrustworthy rags of all. Them and their east coast cousin the NYT.

“Trump attacking Immigrants…” Gee, J, you almost fooled us. Of course it’s never been immigrants, it’s illegal immigrants. Funny-if you actually had a coherent argument you wouldn’t have to change the terms from one to the other

    • Conservative Beaner says:

      SV,

You and I do but the elites in this country won’t know what to do. They might have to pay a living wage to someone to take care of their expensive homes and watch their kids so they can go out and play. The prices at those posh restaurants will go up to pay for the help in the kitchen and waiting tables, the horror.

  10. Jeffery says:

    Beano,

You don’t understand. After vetting, liberals would make them citizens with all rights and responsibilities, including protections from predatory employers. At the same time we would tighten the border (no silly wall) and create an immigration policy that recognizes the needs of our economy for workers.

This is that comprehensive immigration you’ve heard about. The current approach will give the hard right boners but won’t solve any problems.

    • Rev.Hoagie® says:

Your dickweed, homosexual moslem president had eight years and a pen and a phone to do that. Why didn’t he? Because like you he is a liar. How many immigrants have you brought in to take care of so far? Zero? Figures.

  11. Dan Fowler says:

One huge issue that is never addressed in these articles is that immigrants and illegals, Hispanic, or Chinese, or wherever the foreigners are a majority of workers in any domain, along with their complicit employers, have created a discriminatory environment to the effect that English speaking citizens and teenagers/youth can not easily obtain employment in these domains. It is not so much that Americans will not do this work as it is that they are aggressively prevented from obtaining employment at all. Apply for work as a fast food worker, or as a field worker, or as a entry level construction worker, etc., and the employer will almost always not hire the English speaking citizen because they know the current workers will not accept or welcome the competition. They also will mandate that the job seeker be fluent in Spanish or Bi-lingual in Spanish/ENglish, because the employees are not fluent in English. I have lived here in So Cal all my life and seen this development from becoming progressively worse since the 1980’s.
