Climastrologers Trot Out Old Excuse For The Great Pause

This is actually number two on the list of Pause Excuses, and is being widely and breathlessly published by all sorts of media outlets who use vast amounts of energy and fossil fuels themselves

New Study Offers Insights on Global Warming ‘Hiatus’

A new study provides new insights about the so-called global warming “hiatus” that occurred between 1998 and 2013.

During the said period, a temporary slowdown in the global mean surface temperature (GMST) warming was observed, and a new study suggests that the phenomenon represented a redistribution of energy within the Earth system, which includes the planet’s land, atmosphere and the ocean.

You’ll never guess why

The researchers concluded that the global ocean absorbed the extra heat from the atmosphere, causing the observed decrease in GMST – a key indicator of climate change.

So, the ocean ate their warming

The researchers hope that the new study will lay the foundation for future research in the global change field, suggesting that the climate community replaces the term “global warming hiatus” with “global surface warming slowdown” to avoid confusion.

If the data doesn’t conform to the pre-conceived notions, the data must be wrong. And this article was one of the most conservative available. Others are claiming that this means there was no actual pause, and many point out that this means that anthropogenic climate change is super real and we’re doomed.

LOL. Deniers are back to the “pause”, forgetting how hot the last couple of years have been.

The “pause” was in the measurement of average global surface temperature, not heat content. Remember that the atmosphere is in equilibrium with the massive heat capacity of the oceans. This is why an El Nino (redistributing heat from the Pacific to the atmosphere) can cause an increase in the average global surface temperature.

Teach: Are you back to denying warming? You seem to change your opinion. Didn’t the “pause” end with a bang, followed by several extremely warm years?

  2. Jeffery says:

And why are you deniers back to bumbling the science? You’ve won the political argument – Trump won. It’s over. The US is poised to unilaterally withdraw from all international agreements, halt any national efforts, and reverse any current initiatives.

We’ll all be dead by the time our great, great grandkids wonder what the fuck we were (not) thinking.

There is a good chance that the global temperature is governed by the sun, and if the sun should shut down a little we would be in for another Ice Age. During the “Maunder’ Minimum” the earth became much cooler, and that is an historical fact.
