Dallas Police Shooting: Blowback from Impunity and Structural Racism
Five police officers in Dallas are dead after a shooting, which took place toward the end of a peaceful demonstration on July 7. The protest was a response to the gut-wrenching acts of police violence, which killed Philando Castile in Minneapolis and Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge.
A suspect, according to Dallas Police Chief David Brown, is also dead. Twenty-five year-old Micah Johnson was cornered by police for hours until police sent in a “bomb robot†and detonated an explosive that killed Johnson.
Brown claimed during a press briefing on July 8 that Johnson was “upset about the recent police shootings.†He was “upset about white people,†and he wanted to “kill white people, especially white officers.†He informed the police he was not with any particular groups and said he “acted alone.†He also spoke about improvised explosive devices (IEDs), as if they had been placed around the city. It is impossible to learn the right lessons about this moment if we do not consider how Johnson probably believed he was standing up for black Americans.

Moreover, a proposal to focus on gun control will not resolve the tension if it only results in taking guns away from people, who might resort to violence against police. That may satisfy the goal of protecting police lives, however, it will not guarantee that there is peace and justice without riots or other massive acts of violence in response to police brutality in the future.
Got that? He doesn’t want gun control because this would take guns away from Black people so they can shoot police officers.
Like the blowback against American superpower, which brought about the September 11th attacks, there will continue to be blowback against police so long as officers in departments throughout the country keep engaging in horrific acts of violence and oppression against minority communities.
A typical Democrat position, America got what it deserved on 9/11, and now, police officers are getting what they deserve.
The more common left position was that Bush did not do his job keeping us safe while 3000 Americans were killed by the same people to whom we had given billions to in the 80s
Those righteous religious rightists that said that 9/11 was God’s just punishment for abortion and homosexuality far outnumbered those on the left who said similar things NONE of whom were ever invited to the White House like Pat Robertson who represented the position of many the right

Did Mr Johnson believe that he was somehow standing up for black Americans? Yup, he probably did, but he was deranged! The policemen involved in the two recent incidents in which black men were killed are under investigation right now, and if their actions were wrong, they’ll be punished. The officers whom Mr Johnson shot were not in any way involved in the two police shootings.
Now, were those two victims killed because they were black? Actually, I’d say it was a factor. Everybody ‘fills in’ the gaps in his knowledge with his own perceptions, and it is an accurate perception that black Americans are more likely to be criminals than white Americans. Police officers have to be wary in every interaction they have with the public, but the statistics indicate that there is more danger to officers from interactions with black, as opposed to white, civilians. It is my guess that these two black men lost their lives due in part to the actions of other black men.
Our police are not perfect; no one is. And they have their own concerns for their safety, and the safety of the people around them. Policemen have good and bad days just like anyone else, and sometimes those bad days lead to criminal actions.
We could do as the #BlackLivesMatter people want to do, and that’s just get rid of the police . . . and then every place will look like Chicago.
