One would think that the occasion of Independence Day being Monday, and everyone celebrating through the weekend, might lead Obama to note the greatness of the United States. Alas, no. He does give a few kudos to the military folks, but, they seem mostly to be a prop for saying how great Michelle Obama and Jill Biden are

Weekly Address: Serving our Military Families This Fourth of July

Hi everybody, and Happy Fourth of July weekend. On Monday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will celebrate the Fourth like most of you – in the backyard. We’ll hang out with family and friends, throw some burgers and dogs on the grill, and watch the fireworks show. (snip)

For the past five years, Michelle and Dr. Jill Biden have tried to follow the example of so many of those Americans with their Joining Forces initiative. They’ve rallied businesses to hire more than 1.2 million veterans and military spouses, and helped reduce veteran homelessness. And just this week, Michelle and Jill announced a breakthrough on a concern they’ve heard again and again from the military spouses they spend so much time with – and that’s the issue of professional licensing. It didn’t make any sense. So we changed it. When Michelle and Jill took up this cause five years ago, only three states had taken action on military spouse licensing. But they rallied governors and state legislatures to action. And this week, we reached a milestone. Today, all fifty states have acted to streamline many of these licensing issues.

There’s no doubt they helped with the issue, which changes the way military spouses are licensed when they move from state to state, as so often happens with the military. This makes it easier for them to get their full licenses back quickly and get a back to where they were with their job track. Good for them! Kudos to Jill and Michelle. However, is it necessary to essentially make it all about Michelle and Jill? Because that’s what this is about. Sure, he says some nice things about the military, but, they are props, they are background for the congratulations to Jill and Michelle.

Our Founders fought and died a couple hundred years ago so we could end up with this buffoon. On the bright side, at least he has not made it All About Barack. I’m sure there’s time for a narcissistic photo, though.

    Well, it is Independence Day weekend so it’s time for the “I hate America” crowd to make its appearance. Yesterday the commie idiot Gersh Kuntzman of the New York Daily News (yeah, the same snowflake injured by the super-duper recoil of a civilian AR-15) wrote that they should stop singing God Bless America at baseball games because it offends him.

    Some of his dumbass comments as to why he hates a song were:

    The song still embodies great things about America, but also our worst things: self-righteousness, forced piety, earnest self-reverence, foam.

    That’s right, “the oceans white with foam”
    are too nationalistic for the idiot.
    Or how about this brilliant ditty:

    “God Bless America” is as divisive as American politics: Kaskowitz’s research found that 83.8% of people who described themselves as “very liberal” dislike the song*, while only 20.5% of people who called themselves “very conservative” have a problem with it.

    And more than 88% of atheists dislike the song, Kaskowitz found. (Quick aside: We atheists also hate having “In God we Trust” on the currency and in the courtrooms of a country whose Constitution bars the “establishment of religion” — but that’s a fight for another day.)

    *That makes sense since since 98.7% of people who describe themselves as liberal hate America, God and Irving Berlin.

    I find it amusing that the very reasons he hates this song are the same as the reasons we hate leftists.

    Happy Independence Day guys, and remember the people who hate America, God, white people, Christians, the wealthy, the successful (yes, they are different), guns, fossil fuel, the military, Andrew Jackson, little girl’s rest rooms, the confederate battle flag, Ronald Reagan, straight men and eating meat owe it all to the very people they hate who went to war for the last 240 years for our country.

    The speech was not all about Michelle. Can’t you read? Or his your bizarre hatred of this man so intense your judgment is clouded?

    Hoagie: At my house we burn the Confederate Battle Flag every 4th to celebrate America defeating the southern terrorists/rebels who so loved enslaving other humans that they tried to destroy this nation. Under the imaginary aegis of an imaginary god. Modern conservatism is the progeny of those terrorist leaders.

    You are right about one thing – the differences between modern conservatives and liberals/progressives are stark. We believe in freedom and opportunity for everyone. Modern conservatives prefer a status quo that privileges some folk over others. We believe in scientific principles. Modern conservatives prefer magic. We believe in truths. Modern conservatives embrace lies. We recognize that the idea of America is greater than her actions. We recognize that America is a place, but it’s also much more than a place. We recognize that Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans, Asians, Europeans, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Atheists, Agnostics, Hindus, gays, straight, transgendered, rich, poor, smart, dumb, disabled, weak, strong, sick, well, liberals, conservatives, Democrats, Republicans and Independents comprise America. Like-minded pioneers in search of a better life – a better way. We are not a single race, religion, ethnicity or tribe – we are a grand idea – a grand experiment – like no other country in history – about human freedoms, human independence and human dignity. So yes, modern conservatives, try to deter this great nation, this idea, this experiment – but know that liberals will oppose your every step to take us back across that bridge to the 19th century.

    Happy 4th. Try to celebrate the good of this great nation.

    Do you really believe that a few platitudes of faux patriotism will convince anyone of your “love of country”? Hardly. You seem to know so much about what we believe that is just utterly wrong. But the most amazing thing is how you attribute your own prejudices and lack of Godly love on everybody else. You have no moral compass so you accuse others of the sins of people log dead. Typical leftist white privilege looking down your ungrateful nose.

    I’d be willing to bet you don’t even own an American flag let alone fly one on our Birthday. But if you do perhaps along with your hateful flag burning you could bun a Bible and kill two birds with one stone.

    Your pathological hatred for anyone not a leftist is showing again. You realize that’s a sign of weakness, don’t you?

    Your problem is you think your corrupted thought processes represent America – common amongst right-wing authoritarians terrified by the perception of losing their control of America.

    Modern conservatism is a religion of hate – hating all that are not caucasian, christian and straight. So of course you hate immigrants, especially brown ones. Of course you hate Muslims. And of course you hate all that don’t follow your precepts.

    I fly an American flag, but it’s interesting you think that is somehow important. To your mind, is an American less American if they don’t fly the Stars and Stripes on July 4?? The idea of America is more than easy symbols and songs. YOU cannot pretend to love America while hating half her people.

    We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

    The right does not own patriotism, although they claim it as their own. The right does not own love of country, although they claim it as their own. The right DOES own white supremacy, tribalism, xenophobia and christianism. The right DOES own “My country, right or wrong”.

    Modern conservatism is a blight on this great nation and the world. You can always have your vile thoughts but we will always fight your vile actions.

    One of J’s biggest b.s. Lines ever: “we believe in freedom and opportunity for everyone.” Good one, J, what a hypocrite. Freedom to speak unless you’re a conservative speaker on a college campus or running for president. Then, violence supported by Dems is called speech, and speech Dems don’t support is called violence. And it’s not equality of opportunity you support, it’s equality of outcome. Not quite what the founding fathers had in mind, but nice try. As far as problems, the Democratic solution to all problems is guilt, raising taxes and restricting freedoms. “We believe in scientific principles.” Why yes, the scientific principle that if the data doesn’t match the theory, we change the data. “Modern conservatism is the progoney of those terrorist leaders.” Drama queen line of the week from our resident Drama Queen. “We burn the Confederate flag every 4th to celebrate defeating the southern terrorists/rebels…” Sure you do J, sure you do.
