Bummer: San Francisco Mayor Bans City Employee Travel To North Carolina Over “Transgender” Bathroom Law

Islamic terrorism? Out of control government spending? A continual increase in government control over our private lives? Debt over $19 trillion dollars (yeah, the news hasn’t mentioned this as of late)? Sexual assaults from “refugees” and illegal aliens? Black people killing each other at high rates? These are just a few things that liberals do not care about that are important. Instead, Liberals are super concerned about things like a law that restricts local governments from requiring that people who say they are opposite sex but aren’t biologically are allowed to use opposite sex bathrooms, changing rooms, and showers, and they will fight supposed discrimination with discrimination

(Fox News) San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said in a statement Friday he doesn’t want any city workers to travel to North Carolina unless necessary in wake of its legislation which blocks anti-discrimination for gay, lesbian and transgender people.

“We are standing united as San Franciscans to condemn North Carolina’s new discriminatory law that turns back the clock on protecting the rights of all Americans including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals,” Lee said in the statement.

“Effective immediately, I am directing City Departments under my authority to bar any publicly-funded City employee travel to the State of North Carolina that is not absolutely essential to public health and safety.”

How many San Fran city employees travel to NC yearly on the government dime? Seriously, this will affect what, one, maybe two visitors to our state from San Fran? Bummer.

“McCrory’s reckless decision to sign this appalling legislation into law is a direct attack on the rights, well-being and dignity of hundreds of thousands of LGBT North Carolinians and visitors to the state,” Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin said in a statement. Civil liberties groups pledged to push for repeal and were weighing legal options.

Really? How many people are out there who really “self identify” as the opposite sex for real? It’s darned sure not hundreds of thousands, and this affects regular gays and lesbians not at all. But, this is the kind of issue, minor and inconsequential, which sends Liberals into apoplexy.

Don’t forget, in the name of tolerance, liberals are the most intolerant people on the planet. All because local laws cannot be passed that allow confused people to use the bathroom of the opposite sex legally. But, this will all blow over in a couple weeks, and everyone will forget about it.

I applaud the Mayor’s actions, not because I oppose the Carolina law, but because there should not be “any publicly-funded City employee travel to the State of North Carolina” or any other city or state, “that is not absolutely essential to public health and safety.”

If such travel is not absolutely essential, it is a waste of the taxpayers’ dollars. San Francisco, the oh-so-green city that it is, should use videoconferencing to replace meetings and the like, not just to Carolina, but to anyplace.

Out-of-control government spending? Liberals do care about that, in that they want even more of it! A continual increase in government control over our private lives? Of course the left care about that, because they are pushing it, and want more of it! Remember, the left are pro-choice on exactly one thing. Sexual assaults from “refugees” and illegal aliens? The important part is that we must not blame refugees and illegal aliens, but make certain that we blame white men and Teh White Cisheteronormative Patriarchy™, and not focus on the poor and underprivileged minorities. Black people killing each other at high rates? Why the left care, and believe that the solution to black criminals killing other black criminals is to take firearms from law-abiding people.

    dana,

Much like a “warmist” who drives to work making global warming worse, aren’t YOU part of the “out of control” spending problem – as a gov’t contractor aren’t you paid by taxpayers? Will you refuse to accept any further taxpayer funds? Will you refuse any Social Security and Medicare payments?

Anyway, the folks of NC will pay the price for electing their backward, outside the mainstream legislature. Right-wing extremists in legislatures pass laws to solve nonexistent problems but that do punish those they don’t like and reward their own (think voter fraud laws, bathroom DickCheck laws).

And who’s going to pay the bathroom DickCheckers? Or maybe you think the gov’t should install video cameras in the stalls to alert the authorities to Dicks in the ladies room?

  4. I, and I suspect the majority of North Carolinians, will gladly wear the mantle of “backwards, outside the mainstream” when it comes to protecting juveniles, and adults, from having to deal with the perverts being allowed into bathrooms, changing rooms, and showers with people of the other biological sex by Government overreach.

I suspect the majority of Americans would be opposed to the trannie bathroom laws. The modern Dem Party lives in a fantasy land.

Interestingly, lots and lots of liberals keep moving to our backwards states, apparently to escape the ruins, both morally and ecnomically, that they’ve created in Dem run states. If you don’t like the way we think and do things, stay in your Progressive states. We don’t want or need you.

Dana is stealing taxpayer monies??? oh the shame of it
Teach the NBA is also threatening to cancel its All Star game in Atlanta.
Why not mention that much more serious economic blow than the much smaller SF ban ?
That stupid law that Georgia passed is a JOB KILLER!!!
    Stop killing jobs GA!!
You are already ranked pretty far below average http://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm
Bigotry kills jobs STOP IT !!
GA already takes 2 times as much money from DC as they give, why do we have to support those dead beat red states???

  6. john says:

Also Teach that law tha was passed , that one you seem to love so much: Are you aware that it also alters a 30 year old law that allowed private sector employees to sue their employers under state law for any type of discrimination including race religioncolor national origin age sex or handicap ??????
    rom raw story
North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) late Wednesday night signed rushed legislation that, as is widely known, eliminates local governments’ ability to pass anti-discrimination measures to protect gay and transgender individuals. But what received less immediate attention was that the new law guts workplace discrimination protections for virtually everyone.

A section of the new law alters the state’s law that had allowed private sector employees to sue their employers under state law discrimination on the basis of of race, religion, color, national origin, age, sex or handicap.

“It takes away a right that people have had for 30 years,” Bill Rowe, the director of advocacy at the North Carolina Justice Center told TPM on Friday. “It’s a pretty big change that caught us all by surprise.”
OK Teach you don’t think people who view sex differently from you shouldn’t have civil rights but are you also willing to go on record as saying that people who aren’t white can be discriminated against ?

  7. Jeffery says:

    Teach,

We get it. You consider the transgendered to be perverts, which is your right. All they’re asking is to have a place to go pee and poop without harassment and government interference.

When in power, conservatives have a long history of using the power of the government to enforce their beliefs. This is no different.

  8. gitarcarver says:

All they’re asking is to have a place to go pee and poop without harassment and government interference.

So a law demanding businesses treat them differently from others is not “government interference?”

When in power, conservatives have a long history of using the power of the government to enforce their beliefs.

My goodness you have no self-awareness do you?

  9. Jeffery says:

    gc,

My goodness you have no self-awareness do you?

So you consider a right-wing law requiring someone to check the genitals of those in a bathroom stall to be MORE freedom?

    Curiouser and curiouser.

  10. john says:

GC will YOU be the one to do the checking?

  11. john says:

It sounds like GC that you want the BIG GOVERNMENT to be checking on everybody’s stuff in every stall
or if not BIG GOVERNMENT maybe “volunteers”

  12. gitarcarver says:

    john and Jeffery,

It is simply amazing that you two don’t see the government intrusion in this.

Instead of letting companies set their own policies, people are trying to force a law on companies.

And yet you two think that isn’t a “government intrusion.”

What I manufacture, ready-mixed concrete, gets used in necessary projects, our roads and bridges. I am not surprised that a liberal cannot distinguish between necessary and unnecessary.

Will you refuse any Social Security and Medicare payments?

No, absolutely not. I have said it before: even if I had a billion dollars in the bank, I will take every last farthing of my Social Security and Medicare benefits, because the government forcibly seized OASDI and Medicare taxes from me throughout my working life, with the ‘promise’ that those benefits would be there for me when I retired.

The left found this out when liberal Houston, which elected an openly lesbian mayor, repealed, by referendum, the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance by a 61% to 39% margin.

    Jeffrey wrote:

And they have one: the bathroom assigned to the sex they really are, rather than the one they think they are.

However, there is always ‘government interference’ when it comes to public restrooms: simply the fact that there are separate male and female restrooms, regardless of the prior Charlotte ordinance or new state law, restroom use was restricted. The Charlotte ordinance simply put the ‘rights’ of one out of every 30,000 people ahead of the rights of 29,999 out of every 30,000 people, because the elected leadership of Charlotte are leftists and, apparently, dumb as a box of rocks. Conservatives, being more intelligent, thought that the rights of 29,999 out of 30,000 somehow outweighed the desires of 1 out of 30,000.

Had the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance been just that, rather than including the trannies bathroom provision as well, it would (probably) not have been repealed via referendum. Most people believe that employers should not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin (as long as the person is a legal resident), age, sex or handicap (as long as the handicapped person could still perform the job.) Most people — though perhaps somewhat fewer than is the case with the previously listed — would not oppose laws which prohibit discrimination based on sexual preference.

But what the tranny bathroom law did was to impose the mental illness of a very few people on the vast majority, and it exposed children to the perversions of a few adults. Yeah, that’s the kind of thing that will get parents’ ire up.

  19. Jeffery says:

    dana typed his excuse:

What I manufacture, ready-mixed concrete, gets used in necessary projects, our roads and bridges. I am not surprised that a liberal cannot distinguish between necessary and unnecessary.

How much concrete would you sell without the government paying for roads and bridges?

Almost every American will take more out of Social Security and Medicare than they contributed.

So: You find Social Security, Medicare and transportation infrastructure to be necessary expenditures. We assume you consider defense to be necessary as well. So far that makes up at least 2/3s of government spending. Interest on the debt is also off the table, right?

What’s left to cut? Support for the poor? Education? I’m sure someone who makes a good living off the taxpayers considers these expenditures to be “unnecessary”.

  20. Jeffery says:

    dana,

Is your life on the government dole a generational thing? Was you father supported by the taxpayers and are you Teach-ing your children how to game the system for profit as well?

In all seriousness, I don’t care you make your living, as long as it’s legal and ethical. I do care that you spout nonsense such as government roadbuilding is necessary but government support of education, healthcare, clean air and water is unnecessary.

I’m sure that professors who receive federal research grants and who work at state universities consider their work necessary, doctors who make a good living caring for Medicare patients consider their work necessary, weapons manufacturers who only exist to supply the government consider their work necessary, the child who only gets enough to eat because of SNAP considers her life necessary, grade school teachers in Detroit consider their work necessary…
