Semi-Retired President Gets Weepy Over Mostly-Ineffectual Gun Rules

I noted yesterday that Obama’s new “gun control” regime would pretty much have a statistically insignificant effect on “gun violence”. Ed Morrissey called them a “restatement of existing law”, and that they “aren’t exercises in executive power; they’re admissions of incompetent governance.” Allahpundit notes they are empty gestures, and points to Charles W. Cooke, who writes

1) In order to make his actions appear meaningful, Obama is going to have to pretend that they represent serious change. If he does that, though, he’ll permit his opponents to say, “look, we just did big gun control by executive order, we have other things to do, and we’re not doing it again.” That matters. The Left makes great hay out of the “we never do anything” line, and its more effective advocates use our present inertia to justify the need for experimentation. Insofar as there is any, Obama has slowed the momentum for further gun-control. This is not how you win the argument.

For the most part, that’s all these actions are: appearances. And, we get this

President Barack Obama grew emotional Tuesday as he made a passionate call for a national “sense of urgency” to limit gun violence.

He was introduced by Mark Barden, whose son Daniel was killed in the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. Obama circled back to that shooting in the final moments of his speech.

“Every time I think about those kids, it gets me mad,” Obama said, pausing to wipe away tears.

He added: “And by the way, it happens on the streets of Chicago every day,” referring to his hometown where he began his political career.

Yes, it does happen on the streets of Chicago every day (he should talk to his buddy Rahm Emanuel). And in Baltimore. Detroit. Newark. And many other mostly Democratic Party run cities. And these empty gestures will have zero effect on these events. Does anyone think that criminals will say “oh, goodness, I have to have a background check for online purchases, where I’m not purchasing guns anyhow?” They don’t care about laws regarding murder, attempted murder, theft, assault, dealing drugs, etc.

And all those Democratic cities have draconian gun control. California is a liberal gun grabbers wet dream.

But, really, this is what Obama gets weepy about? What about other things

Does anyone remember Obama getting weepy when he made his brief statement, from the golf course, over the beheading of James Foley, then went right back to the golf course?

How about when Baltimore was breaking records for murder in 2015? He didn’t get weepy over San Bernardino, when Islamists killed Americans. Nor Fort Hood. Sarah Palin wonders

America is forced to weep over Obama’s release of violent criminals into our communities – like the 121 illegal aliens who committed murders after they were released from custody by the Obama administration instead of being deported. And that doesn’t take into account the others we don’t know about.

The whole world weeps waiting for American leadership in these troubled times as Islamic savages commit genocide against the Christians of the Middle East and terrorize innocent people in cities across the globe.

Heck, how about some weeping for the record number of people who have dropped out of the work force in despair

Yeah, what kind of unfeeling prick cries over 20 first graders murdered by a lunatic who never should have had a rifle?

If Obama’s executive orders will make no difference why worry about them? Over 90% of Americans agree with universal background checks. The Republicans should listen to the American people, not the gun manufacturers.

He was never adjudicated to have mental problems, and the weapons were not his; they belonged to his mother, who was perfectly eligible to own firearms. Or do the left now want to ban firearm ownership by law-abiding people with no problems at all, if they happen to have relatives who are ineligible to own weapons?

We pay attention to a President, who was touted as a “constitutional scholar” when he first ran for the office, who wants to use the Constitution for toilet paper.

And we are listening to the American people, the same ones who create a spike in gun purchases every time the left start talking about taking away their rights.

Once our idiot President made it clear that he was going to issue another executive order on guns, Smith & Wesson stock jumped 11%.

Except, he didn’t years ago when it happened. Weird, right?

What kind of unfeeling basted doesn’t cry over the hundreds of Mexicans, including women and children, killed and injured by guns his agents ran during Gast and Furious?

As far as universal background checks, this doesn’t establish it.

Hey, if guns are so bad, when will you get rid of yours? Never know when you’ll snap.

    Jeff,
So that means you are all in favor of a Republican president using the same method to enact laws on things like abortion, voting requirements, getting rid of climate initiatives, etc. Good to know, I am sure Trump is watching and will use this new precedent in executive overreach.

    got weepy….

Sure. It’s an old trick, a bit of onion juice( or something similar) on the finger wiped over the eye does the trick.

Look closely before he starts weeping… every time he “causally” wipes a finger across his eye before the tears start.

All smoke and mirrors, this man has no honor, no morals no ethics. Everything he does is pre-planned and staged.

Don’t fall for it, it’s all theatrics, and 100% cynical.

  6. Dana says:

And, thanks to our esteemed President’s executive actions, shares of Smith & Wesson rose 11% yesterday. The company anticipates a huge increase in sales, as law-abiding people react to the possibility that their constitutional rights will be curtailed.

    Guns are not bad.

Here are some executive orders of note:

    1. Equal Employment Opportunity
Lyndon B. Johnson signed Executive Order 11246 which bars discrimination in federal employment because of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

    2. Affirmative Action
Kennedy issued Executive Order 10925, which included a provision that government contractors “take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin.”

    3. Works Progress Administration
FDR used Executive Order number 7034 to create the Works Progress Administration, which put more than 8.5 million Americans back to work rebuilding the country one bridge, road, and mural at a time.

    4. Desegregation of Schools
Eisenhower’S EO 10730 placed the Arkansas National Guard under Federal control and sent in U.S. army troops to ensure that nine black children could safely attend Little Rock High School.

    5. The Emancipation Proclamation.
The Proclamation freed all slaves living in the Confederacy, though left out the border states of Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia, which had yet to secede.
