Virginia’s Democrat AG Decides To Make Women With Concealed Carry Permits Less Safe When Passing Through

Gotta love when Democrats simply decide to change the law

(Daily Caller)  Virginia’s Democrat Attorney General announced Tuesday that the state will no longer honor reciprocity privileges for out-of-state concealed carry permit holders from 25 other states.

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring made the announcement Tuesday after a months-long audit of reciprocating states that found the states’ concealed carry qualifications didn’t meet the minimum requirements in Virginia, the Richmond Times Dispatch reports.

The audit, conducted jointly by the attorney general’s office and the Virginia State Police, found that the requirements to acquire a concealed carry permit in 25 of the 30 states currently recognized by Virginia weren’t strong enough to keep a person from obtaining a permit who would be disqualified under Virginia law.

Those who would be disqualified in Virginia include people convicted of a felony, domestic abuse, or drunk driving. Mentally ill people and those dishonorably discharged from the military are also barred from carrying handguns in Virginia.

Most of those people aren’t eligible to own a handgun in the first place. But, what this will do is make it illegal for women who have concealed carry permits who are traveling through Virginia to carry their weapon, putting them in more danger. Why do Democrats want to stop women from defending themselves?

In a statement to The Washington Post, Herring said the move to block reciprocity with the states that don’t meet Virginia standards is a “common sense step” that will keep Virginians safer.

Really? Any evidence?

Well this gives me a warm fuzzy. Living in Vermont with no real gun laws, no registration, no CC or open carry permits I’m glad to know Virginians can carry here safely while I’d be a criminal there. I would be interested in knowing how Virginia ranks in gun safety and crime with their laws vs. Vermont with none. BTW we’re the safest state in the country two years running now. Please, please don’t say no people live here, crime stats are based on crimes per 100,000 and we crossed that plateau generations ago.

LOL at Va. AG claiming this will make people safer. Out of state CCW holders aren’t killing Virginians. Why doesn’t he hold a meeting of neighboring state AGs and come to a common agreement on CCW screening methods? The state could share processes and share software, instead of every state making their own. They’d save a lot of taxpayers money and they’d be working for the people rather than against them.

Why yes, criminals from other states will be sure to abide by this.

Doesn’t this make sense? VA proposes to block people ineligible for a VA CCW from going to a more lax state, obtaining one and returning.

Hardly seems like the problem, given that states don’t issue concealed weapons permits to non-residents.

But the bigger problem is that there should be no CCW permits at all; if you are not a convicted felon who has lost his civil rights under the Fourteenth Amendment, you should be able to own and carry your weapon, period.

Attorney Generals don’t make the law. State legislatures do.

Or am i missing something here?

  8. Great! Now those other states will stop honoring my Virginia CCW. Typical democrat. Doesn’t care what the law is. Just wants results.

  9. Jeffery says:

The other states might not stop honoring VA CCW’s since the other states have lower standards. Unless the states’ Republicans play politics in retaliation.

Dana makes a good point. Why even have CCW permits? According to the 2nd Amendment, every American resident, regardless of age or mental defect, has the absolute and unfettered right to weaponry to protect his or her self and property from foes, including (if not especially) los federales! In fact, gun-free schools are probably not just unconstitutional, but also a bad idea. Imagine a gunman getting out of class-room of 5th graders alive, when each has a pistol in their pocket!
