Islamists Attack Hotel In Mali, Take 170 Hostage

The funny part is how many news outlets are using a headline which says “gunman“, rather than something like Islamists or Muslims. It’s like they’re trying to instead blame the guns. As Obama once said, words matter

Gunmen attack luxury hotel in Mali capital, 170 taken hostage

Islamist gunmen stormed a luxury hotel packed with foreigners in Mali’s capital Bamako on Friday, taking 170 hostages in a former French colony that has been battling rebels allied with al Qaeda for several years.

A senior security source said some of the hostages had been freed after being made to recite verses from the Koran. The French newspaper Le Monde quoted the Malian security ministry as saying at least three hostages had been killed.

The raid on the Radisson Blu hotel, which lies just west of the city center near government ministries and diplomatic offices in the former French colony, comes a week after Islamic State militants killed 129 people in Paris.

The identity of the Bamako gunmen, or the group to which they belong, is not known.

We do know one thing: they’re Islamists. The nation is chock full of them, as this State Department warning made quite clear.

The security source said as many as 10 gunmen had stormed the building, firing shots and shouting “Allahu Akbar”, or “God is great” in Arabic. The hotel’s head of security said two private security guards had been injured in the early stages of the attack, which began at 7 a.m. (0200 ET).

There are reports that 3 are dead.

(NY Times) Kassim Traoré, a Malian journalist who was in a building about 50 meters from the Radisson, said the attackers asked hostages to recite a declaration of Muslim faith as a way separating Muslims from non-Muslims.

Those who could recite the declaration, the Shahada, were allowed to leave the hotel. The Shabab, a Qaeda affiliate in East Africa, used a similar approach in the attack at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi in 2013.

What are they after? Most news articles mention there being lots of French tourists. Supporters of the Islamic State even have a new hashtag, #Mali_Is_Burning.

(Reuters again) In the wake of last week’s Paris attacks, an Islamic State militant in Syria told Reuters the organization viewed France’s military intervention in Mali as another reason to attack France and French interests.

I’m sure that when he wakes up President Massive Carbon Footprint will be Very Concerned. Also, we can rest assured that leftist apologists will alert us to Christians doing Something Bad a millennium ago. I’ve never understood their dhimmitude towards radical Islam, which is direct competition with Progressives for control of government and society.

Teach are you suggesting that all criminals should be identified by their religion?

So far we have had pretty extreme statements made by the top 2 in the GOP clown car. Carson has compared these refugees to “rabid dogs” and Trump has called for closing all the mosques in the USA
Since 9/11 Jihadists have killed 26 people in the USA
Rightwing anti government extremists have killed almost 2x as many
When polled police chiefs always say that there is more danger from home grown rightwing extremists than rightwing jigadistshttp://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/25/us/tally-of-attacks-in-us-challenges-perceptions-of-top-terror-threat.html?_r=0
Aren’t most murders in Raleigh done by christians?Since 9/11 about 170,000 Americans have been murdered
26 have been killed by jihadists.
Please Teach do not give them more reason to kill anyone by giving them undeserved publicity and fame.

“Should criminals be identified by their religion?” No John, only those that kill in the name of their religion. This isn’t rocket science. You ask the above question then go on to mention “right wing anti-government extremists”, which has nothing to do with religion. And what, in the name of whatever, has “2 pretty extreme statements” have to do with any of this? Do you think ISIS is like some our special snowflake college students and are upset because their feelings might get hurt? But, like most times you post here, you simply offer what people said or what they did without any rebuttal or context. You have something against closing extreme mosques? Why? A lot of these rabid dogs are radicalized in these mosques. In fact, comparing these people to rabid dogs isn’t fair to rabid dogs.

  3. john says:

Soo what about people who kill in the name of FREEDOM should we call them freedomists?
The USA invaded 2 muslim countries Iraq and Afghanistan. We may not have formally announced our selves as christians but they is how we are/were perceived. After all some/many rightists are always saying how we are a christian nation.
In what name does the USA kill, Democracy ? What name would you prefer to be known as when YOU jgo over their personally to fight ISIS
I live in the borough of Queens in NYC 1/2 of the people who live here are foreign born It is THE most ethnically diverse urban area on the planet. Ignorance breeds fear.
    No the sky isn’t falling.
    try reading Deutoronomy 17
    Deuteronomy 17
If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant; 17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; 17:4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel; 17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

So they allow access to a computer AND a bible at the nervous hospital in Queens.
    Good for you ‘tarded johnny.

  5. gitarcarver says:

Before the war in Iraq, the International Red Cross and the UN were estimating 5,000 women and children were dying per month due to Saddam’s diverting funds from programs designed to end that madness.

So go ahead john. Try and clear your conscience of those deaths that would have been on your hands and people like you.

So while you sit there and think “gee, I am a Biblical scholar!” chew on this:

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13

You can’t see people their lives on the line to help others because you are lack the moral courage to do so.

It is therefore no surprise that you support ISIS and the subjugation of freedom loving people here and abroad.

  6. Jl says:

As I said, John, this isn’t rocket science. They kill in the name of their religion-actually they kill people who don’t adhere to their religion. We do neither of those. drowningpuppies “access to a computer and a Bible at the nervous hospital in Queens.” My new favorite line.
