Obama Announces Iran Nuke Deal That Has Iranians Dancing In The Street

Personally, I’m going to reserve full judgement as to the veracity of this so-called agreement till there is an actual written deal on the table, rather than a verbal “this is what is going to happen”, but, this should tell you quite a bit as to who won and who lost

(UK Telegraph) The world powers and Iran announced on Thursday night that they had taken a “decisive step” towards a comprehensive agreement that would restrict Iran’s nuclear programme for a least a decade in exchange for lifting crippling economic sanctions.

The agreement-in-principle came at the end of a marathon eight-day negotiating session in Lausanne, Switzerland led by John Kerry, the US secretary of state, and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, who at times negotiated through the night in search of a mutually acceptable compromise.

Although several critical details remained unclear, the two parties said they had reached agreement on the “key parameters” for a deal and would produce a final agreement, complete with technical annexes, by June 30.

Celebrations broke out in Tehran, where people took to the streets dancing and passing out sweets. In one video posted on Facebook, a group of women can be heard clapping and chanting “Thank you, Rouhani.”

France wanted more stringent requirements. Think on that one. Then we have this

(Washington Free Beacon) Just hours after the announcement of what the United States characterized as a historic agreement with Iran over its nuclear program, the country’s leading negotiator lashed out at the Obama administration for lying about the details of a tentative framework.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif accused the Obama administration of misleading the American people and Congress in a fact sheet it released following the culmination of negotiations with the Islamic Republic.

Zarif bragged in an earlier press conference with reporters that the United States had tentatively agreed to let it continue the enrichment of uranium, the key component in a nuclear bomb, as well as key nuclear research.

Zarif additionally said Iran would have all nuclear-related sanctions lifted once a final deal is signed and that the country would not be forced to shut down any of its currently operating nuclear installations.

Here’s the problem: who do you trust? On one hand, you have to say “hey, Iranians”. On the other hand, you have to say “why would they need to lie?” Is this deal good or bad? Does it give too much away to the Iranian regime, and allow them to continue working towards a nuclear weapon (which, let’s admit, they’ve been pretty darned incompetent at. It only took the US a few years to develop the first atom bomb. The Iranians have been working on it for well over a decade).  Is Obama lying or are the Iranians lying? Obama is desperate to make a legacy type deal, and few US media outlets will actually tell the truth. Obama hasn’t exactly been trustworthy during his time in office.

Who’s right and who’s wrong? Any deal that fails to shut down Iran’s nuclear weapon aspirations is a loss. That’s the entire point of this exercise.

In order to develop our bomb we had to basically use all the electric power from the TVA dams and also the Columbia river.
Reagan allowed Pakistan to build a bomb, and the Pakis are far more unstable than Iran
As far as how long Iran has been working on a bomb Israel has been claiming that they were 2-5 years away since 1992 which in hindsight does seem to not have happened

In your cloistered life in the old confederacy it’s likely you’ve not known or worked with Iranians.

The ones I know (although reluctant to announce where they’re from) were quite worldly and intelligent. Certainly more sophisticated than the typical conservative cretin.

So sanctions and negotiations worked, and no one has had to invade or bomb, bomb, bomb – bomb, bomb Iran. No wonder the Iranians are happy. Now if only Netanyahoo and his conservative American jingoists would climb down off their warplanes…

“The sanctions worked..” Which is precisely why Obama didn’t like them. Dancing in the streets because Israel will be a target. And if Bibi climbed down off his warplane everything would be ok because don’t for a minute believe that “destruction to Israel” stuff because, well, remember I knew a few Iranians who were “worldly and intelligent.” If only some of our liberal posters were the same.
