EPA Wants Hotels To Monitor Your Water Usage And Change Your Behavior

How dare you say Warmists/Progressives want to control your behavior!

(Washington Free Beacon) The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) wants hotels to monitor how much time its guests spend in the shower.

The agency is spending $15,000 to create a wireless system that will track how much water a hotel guest uses to get them to “modify their behavior.”

“Hotels consume a significant amount of water in the U.S. and around the world,” an EPA grant to the University of Tulsa reads. “Most hotels do not monitor individual guest water usage and as a result, millions of gallons of potable water are wasted every year by hotel guests.”

The funding is going toward creating a prototype and market analysis for the device. The goal of the project is to change the behavior of Americans when they stay at hotels.

“This technology will provide hotel guests with the ability to monitor their daily water online or using a smartphone app and will assist hotel guest in modifying their behavior to help conserve water,” the grant said.

This is all about “sustainability”, code-word for “climate change”.

This begs the question, should Warmists actually stay at hotels? If they’re staying at one, it means they are traveling, which means the use of fossil fuels, which are Bad for Hotcoldwetdry, and hotels are notorious as energy wasters.

It is past time to rid ourselves of the EPA.

That’s not what the grant intends.

“This technology will provide hotel guests with the ability to monitor their daily water online or using a smartphone app, and will assist hotel guest in modifying their behavior to help conserve water. The proposed wireless device will be marketed to the hotel industry to reduce costs by promoting water conservation among hotel guests.”

It’s a $15K investment from the EPA as seed money for student entrepreneurs. Why do you hate business? In addition, it’s intended to help conserve clean water, saving money and energy expenditure.

What they really need is a wireless system to track hotel guest usage of toilet paper to get them to “modify their behavior”.
For the environment and for the children and grandchildren.

Which is outside of the EPA’ mandate.

    Why do you hate business?

Liberals hate businesses, Jeffery. Liberals like you. That is why you and people of your ilk want higher taxes and more regulations on businesses. As it is, the government should not be picking winners and losers like the EPA is doing here.

if the idea is a good one, it will be developed within the business community without taking tax money from people.

Well put, gitarcarver. But it’ll just go right over his head.

Many conservatives support this notion since it would greatly reduce academic science. And conservatives tend to be anti-science and anti-knowledge.

This is the common conclusion of unthinking free-market fetishists. It holds only if you think that greed and profit are the only motivators. Some investments are so high risk in terms of return on investment or in probability of success that private investors won’t touch it.

Pharmaceutical development offers several good examples. Have you heard of the Orphan Drug Designation? This is a gov’t program to encourage drug developers to pursue small market (fewer than 200,000 patients) drugs. Effective drugs to treat cystic fibrosis were developed under the Orphan Drug Act. Over 300 orphan drugs have been developed in the US, most would not have been pursued by private industry alone because the potential profit would be too low. Do you think that it’s just tough shit for cystic fibrosis patients – that it’s just nature taking its course?

Almost all the basic biological and chemical mechanistic discoveries in medicine and pharmacology have been supported by the NIH and NSF, not private companies. How do the drug companies, whose profits are 10s of billions a year repay the taxpayers for this high risk research?

And another fluffer raises his head… but for just a second.

Yeah, because wireless technology and meters are “academic science.”

Once again you try a deflection on the topic and only show how silly you really are.

  10. Jeffery says:

So you support the nearly $40 billion spend of the NIH and NSF on basic research but are morally and ideologically opposed to $15,000 given to college kids by the EPA to potentially start a business?

    Got it.

    And I’m silly.

Which is outside of the EPA mandate.

The EPA cannot fund R&D grants??

Your inchoate rage is interfering with your ability to reason.
