Surprise: Skeptics Edge Out Warmists In Climate Change Knowledge Study

Granted, the study is rather limited and only scratches the surface

(Fox News)  Are global warming skeptics simply ignorant about climate science?

Not so, says a forthcoming paper in the journal Advances in Political Psychologyby Yale Professor Dan Kahan. He finds that skeptics score about the same (in fact slightly better) on climate science questions.

The study asked 2,000 respondents nine questions about where they thought scientists stand on climate science.

On average, skeptics got about 4.5 questions correct, whereas manmade warming believers got about 4 questions right.

What kinds of questions?

One question, for instance, asked if scientists believe that warming would “increase the risk of skin cancer.” Skeptics were more likely than believers to know that is false.

Skeptics were also more likely to correctly say that if the North Pole icecap melted, global sea levels would not rise. One can test this with a glass of water and an ice cube – the water level will not change after the ice melts. Antarctic ice melting, however, would increase sea levels because much of it rests on land.

And, of course

Liberals were more likely to correctly answer questions like: “What gas do most scientists believe causes temperatures to rise?” The correct answer is carbon dioxide.

Of course, that is wrong, since the #1 greenhouse gas is water vapor. Warmists are mostly science illiterate, relying more on talking points, feelings, and computer models. They wouldn’t know the scientific model if it reached up and bit them in the posterior.

“It’s easy to believe in the religion of global warming.  It takes critical thinking skills to question it,” Roy Spencer, a climatologist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, told FoxNews.com.

Correct.

And yet for all the Deniers’ advanced knowledge of physics they can’t grasp that CO2 is the cause of global warming, not water.

Let me know if you’re prepared to understand why, and I’ll explain it to you. But you’ll just Deny that, too.

I, for one, am not at all surprised that Deniers know more answers than the amateur environmentalists. Deniers obviously spend a lot of time rehearsing the gotchas and talking points, many of which are actually scientifically sound, yet out of context.

Water vapor IS the most abundant greenhouse gas. But do you understand why that fact is not responsible for the rapid warming we are now experiencing and CO2 is? Of course not. It’s just another gotcha Deniers use in their propaganda.

Here’s a reverse example of how Deniers would use science as propaganda. “Teach (and other Deniers) claim that water vapor is causing warming, yet the humidity is very low in the hottest deserts (like Arizona) but the humidity is high in cooler spots like the Ohio Valley. Therefore, water vapor does not correlate with warming.”

    Jeff,
You out did yourself. In one comment, you should your bigotry and prejudice. You showed that you have no idea of climate dynamics. The list goes on.

So, I am interested, prove to me that CO2 has any relevance.

    dave,

You ignorant redneck, white supremacist, neo-confederate, seditionist: I don’t need to prove anything to you since you are refractory to education. If you are interested (you aren’t) Google Svante Arrhenius, and read why CO2 is important.

Years ago, a commenter over at the Gateway Pundendum claimed that CO2 couldn’t distribute in the atmosphere since its formula weight, 44, was much greater than nitrogen, 14, so the dense CO2 would sink to the bottom of the atmosphere. You’ve brought up similar arguments but are always afraid to state your positions clearly, because clear positions are liable to be refuted with facts.

That you hate Negroes shouldn’t negate your opinions on global warming but it’s hard for me to take someone like you seriously. Fortunately for me, your ideas on climate are as stupid as your ideas on race.

As J’s rantings further prove the title of this post.

So, at the end of your comments we find that you can’t answer the question, can’t defend your position and that you are a bigot and I am beginning to believe that you are a racist as well. All in all Jeff, you are a sick guy.
