NY Times: What We Really Need Is A Giant Muslims Against Muslim Terrorism March

It’s a surprisingly cogent idea that emanates from the mind of Thomas Friedman, on of the Times’ Typical Hardcore Leftists. I’m sure it’s probably Islamophobic

We Need Another Giant Protest

President Obama was criticized for failing to attend, or send a proper surrogate to, the giant antiterrorism march in Paris on Sunday. That criticism was right. But it is typical of American politics today that we focus on this and not what would have really made the world feel the jihadist threat was finally being seriously confronted. And that would not be a march that our president helps to lead, but one in which he’s not involved at all. That would be a million-person march against the jihadists across the Arab-Muslim world, organized by Arabs and Muslims for Arabs and Muslims, without anyone in the West asking for it — not just because of what happened in Paris but because of the scores of Muslims recently murdered by jihadists in Pakistan, Yemen, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria and Syria.

Abdul Rahman al-Rashed, one of the most respected Arab journalists, wrote Monday in his column in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat: “Protests against the recent terrorist attacks in France should have been held in Muslim capitals, rather than Paris, because, in this case, it is Muslims who are involved in this crisis and stand accused. … The story of extremism begins in Muslim societies, and it is with their support and silence that extremism has grown into terrorism that is harming people. It is of no value that the French people, who are the victims here, take to the streets. … What is required here is for Muslim communities to disown the Paris crime and Islamic extremism in general.” (Translation by Memri.org.)

The problem is, these demonstrations virtually never appear, because if the so-called moderate Muslims attempt it they will be attacked. The typical demonstration within the Arab-Muslim world is to celebrate terrorist attacks against the West. More Muslims are actually killed by the Islamists (hardcore terrorist Muslims) than non-Muslims, yet, so far, few have risen up against the spread of hardcore Islam, both the violent type and the softer, Sharia pushing type.

The truth is there is a huge amount of ambivalence toward this whole jihadist phenomenon — more than any of us would like to believe — in the Arab-Muslim world, Europe and America. This ambivalence starts in the Muslim community, where there is a deep cleavage over what constitutes authentic Islam today. We fool ourselves when we tell Muslims what “real Islam” is.

A 2013 survey, taken through 38000 real world interviews, revealed that, in most Muslim countries, they wanted Sharia law to be the law of the land.

“Muslims need to ‘upgrade their software,’ which is programmed mainly by our schools, television and mosques — especially small mosques that trade in what is forbidden,” Egyptian intellectual Mamoun Fandy wrote in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat. (Also translated by Memri.org.) “There is no choice but to dismantle this system and rebuild it in a way that is compatible with human culture and values.”

This, in itself, is a serious problem, because, as Friedman points out there is no central authority figure like the Pope within the Muslim community, which means Islamic learning comes from all sorts of figures, like Ayatollahs, clerics, and school teachers, among others. The more hardcore version of Islam is taught within the madrassas (Islamic schools) and mosques, it is pushed by the religious leaders, and let’s not forget that Islam isn’t just religion, but politics.

In short, jihadist zeal is easy to condemn, but will require multiple revolutions to stem — revolutions that will require a lot of people in the Arab-Muslim world and West to shed their ambivalence and stop playing double games.

If I didn’t know better, I would think Friedman was a conservative with this kind of dialogue. In the 60’s, it took Whites to say “no more!” to institutionalized segregation and racism to enact the Civil Rights legislation, to say that lynchings should not be performed in the name of Whites, no turning water cannons on Blacks, sicking dogs on them, beating them simply because they were Black. In a similar vein, the moderate Muslims need to decide whether they will put up with the radicalized version of their religion. However, one Times commenter notes

I’m wondering if you could find one million Muslims with enough passion about freedom of speech that they’d put aside the dictates of their community and march for it. Anywhere in the world. Honestly.

You might find them scattered around the world. Many get involved in marches, such as the Paris march. But 1 million to do it together? Doubtful. And since there are supposed to be anywhere from 1 billion to 1.6 billion, would 1 million make a difference?

I would recommend an article from a non-serious magazine called Armchair General. They have the same analysis that the news uses and these are military officers who have been in key positions. In the latest issue, they summate Islam and the problem it represents. The thing with Islam is that there is not a faction that does not support subjugating non-Muslims. In other information that can be obtained via the web, you can find that countries who have 5% or more of Muslims have increasing issues with them. When they become greater than 50%, they begin to change the country to a repressive theological tyranny. Thus, our problem is not radical Islam, it is Islam.

Did Christians hold a march against abortion clinic firebombings, assaults and murders of doctors? I don’t recall. Here’s what Christian Conservative Republican Randall Terry said after a Conservative Christian shot and killed Dr. George Tiller in church:

“George Tiller was a mass-murderer. … And we still must call abortion by its proper name; murder.

Those men and women who slaughter the unborn are murderers according to the Law of God. We must continue to expose them in our communities and peacefully protest them at their offices and homes, and yes, even their churches.”

    He has said:

“Do we want to make the pill illegal? Yes. Do we want to make the IUD illegal? Yes. The morning after pill? Yes. The patch? Yes. Anything that’s a human pesticide, they all have to be made illegal. A woman has to go to jail if she kills her baby.”

More “babies” “die” naturally by spontaneous abortions each year than are born, or are ever aborted by medical procedures. Why is there no effort by the violent Christianists to save these “babies”. You call doctors “murderers” for performing a legal procedure, you don’t march against violence, yet your “God” allows or condemns millions of “babies” to be flushed down toilets each year, and you do nothing. Do you ever ask your god why he/she kills so many innocent babies?

Have you ever read the Christian Bible? It’s chock full of hate and violence and fear. No wonder so many Christianists resort to violence in the name of their god.

Have Conservatives held a march decrying conspiracies to murder policemen and Feds by Conservative extremists (Frein, the Millers, Lonnie Vernon, the FEAR murderers at Fort Stewart etc).

In 2012, Conservative Wade Michael Page (Army Vet, White Supremacist, Christian) marched into a Sikh Temple and shot 10 people, killing 6. Twelve days before the terrorist attack, Page legally purchased a 9 mm handgun.

  3. Jeffery says:

Were Conservatives called to task for the horrific terrorist attack by Anders Behring Breivik in Norway?

Did Freidman call for US Conservatives to march in solidarity against Conservative fanaticism?

Breivik bombed a government building killing 8, then methodically shot 69 teenagers at a Workers Youth Camp.

What we need is a Million Conservative March, arm and arm in solidarity against right-wing violence!

    Jeff,
Now this is an example of your lack of knowledge. If you were up on things, you would know that Islam is recognized as being 600 years behind Christianity in development. While Christianity has many problems, Islam represents a distinct threat to our civilization. Try breathing through your nose, not your mouth.

Amazing, J- you’ve out done yourself- this is your most drama-queen rant ever. I always knew you had it in you.

  6. Jeffery says:

    j,

Amazing. You typed 21 words and didn’t say anything.

“Have you ever read the Christian Bible” It’s chock full of hate and violence and fear.” “Chock full”? I doubt that, but it’s also full of love and forgiveness. “No wonder so many Christianists resort to violence in the name of their god.” What does “so many” mean? Or is that one of those global warming modifiers like “it might”, “could”,” in the future”,we think”, ect.? But for argument sake, let’s say the Bible is “full of hate and violence which causes Christians to resort to violence..” The fact that so few followers actually act on that (wow, J- 6 or so examples? It must be scary if you happen to live next to those Christian people)and are mostly just individuals, shows you how just how random those acts are. In other words, those Christians must tend to be a lot smarter and know better than to act on whatever you think this week in the Bible. Islamists? Not so smart, as we see almost ever day But what would one expect from a 7th century religion? Christians 1, Islamists, 0.

  8. Jeffery says:

    j,

Your point being that Christian violence isn’t as bad as Islamic violence?

My point is that terrorist Muslims represent their religion about as much as terrorist Christians represent Christianity.

Isn’t is peculiar that Christians insist that violent Muslims represent Islam but give violent Christians a pass? Wouldn’t you agree that all anti-abortion assault and battery is religious in nature?

  9. Jl says:

“Your point being that Christian violence isn’t as bad as Islamic violence.” Not my “point”, the truth.

  10. Jl says:

Wouldn’t you agree that all killing of gays, adulteres, honor killings, death by stoning (from a stone-religion), genital mutilation , beheadings, ect, which greatly outnumber “Christian terrorism”, is done in the name of the religion of peace”? A piece of your body here, a piece of your body there, …..

Ah, free speech in France. Perhaps Obama was right not to go.

Notorious French comedian Dieudonne was arrested Wednesday for condoning terrorism over a comment suggesting he sympathized with one of the Paris attacks gunmen, in a move that sparked a debate about free speech.

Prosecutors had opened the case against the comedian on Monday after he posted on his Facebook page “Tonight, as far as I’m concerned, I feel like Charlie Coulibaly” — mixing the popular slogan “Je suis Charlie” used in homage to the slain Charlie Hebdo magazine journalists with a reference to Islamist gunman Amedy Coulibaly.
