Surprise: Only 5% Think Climate Change Is Most Important Issue

I actually read a similar article yesterday at the Washington Post on the study, but that one was all about making religious people feel stupid about believing in Biblical scripture regarding the apocalypse. Anyhow, Climate Change Dispatch finds a separate article, with more interesting details

Even though President Obama considers climate change a top priority for his administration, a recent survey conducted between Sept. 18 and Oct. 8 shows it is barely a blip on most American’s list of concerns.

The survey, based on over 3,000 interviews with American adults conducted in English and Spanish, reveals that only 5 percent thought global warming was the most worrisome issue facing the country. The survey was done by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) to see if religion played a factor in their beliefs, or none at all.

It also showed that over 50 percent of respondents either thought the planet was heating up due to natural causes or uncertain of why global warming was happening (25 percent), or that there was no solid evidence that Earth was heating up in recent decades (26 percent).

Forty-six percent said global warming was a fact and blamed it on human activity.

Interestingly, the WP article from Cathy Lynn Grossman swipes my word

Just 5 percent of Americans thought climate change was the most important issue in the U.S. today. And religion was a major dividing point on how much — or how little — they think it’s a matter of concern, according to a new survey by the Public Religion Research Institute.

The largest group, dubbed the “Believers” (46 percent overall), said global warming is a fact and they lay the blame on human activity. They were most likely (74 percent) to be very or somewhat concerned about climate change.

Hey, now, I often refer to Warmists as “Believers”. Always capitalized. Also climahysterics, climahypocrits, Alarmists, climatists, and climanitwits. OK, I actually haven’t used that last one, but it fits.

This goes hand in hand with all the pushing for religion to push climate change. Heck, some churches are being told they won’t be charged a rain tax in Maryland if they preach “climate change”.

The big takeaway, though, is that “climate change” is once again at the bottom of what Americans care about. From the study

Americans rank climate change last on a list of important issues. Only five percent of Americans say climate change is the most important issue facing the U.S. today. The issue of climate change ranks behind the lack of jobs (22%), the increasing gap between rich and poor (18%), health care (17%), the budget deficit (13%), immigration reform (10%), and the rising cost of education (9%).

Bummer.

Of course as you pointed out the UAH is cooling probably the green house gases are trapping it like a blanket

You are either ignorant or lying. The program is not about climate change, but is specifically about reducing the run-off polluting streams and the ocean.

    e.g.,…

So far, about 30 churches have applied. Forestville Redeemer was the first. They are planning to install rain barrels, build rain gardens, plant trees and, perhaps, replace their blacktop with permeable pavement. The government will cover most of the cost. In return, a fee that was estimated at $744 a year will be reduced to “virtually nothing,” Ortiz said.

Except, most satellite and other measuring methods show something different.

That said, even if 2014 is the hottest on record, that does not prove anthropogenic causation.

And we still no that only 5% give a damned about your little cult.

That statement is not an accurate representation of your own headline (which was surprisingly accurate!).

So here are the “money” stats:

46 percent said global warming is a fact and lay the blame on human activity.

25 percent saw the Earth as heating up but attributed this to natural causes or said they were uncertain why global warming was happening.

26 percent overall say “there is no solid evidence” of the Earth’s temperature rising in recent decades.
