Good Grief, The Mt. Kilimanjaro Is Climate Change Crazies Resurface

Never let a good talking point die, via the Tanzania Daily News

The last thing the 3rd worlders living in the area need is more reduction in their living standards through “climate change” programs. Really, though, the melting has nothing to do with “climate change”, otherwise known as anthropogenic global warming. The article interestingly notes, but does not expand on, the reforestation programs that have been implemented. Much of the loss of the ice cap was due to land use. The forests were cut down which changed the wind patterns which meant less moisture for glacier creation, mostly at the lower levels, cutting trees down which reduces moisture in the winds.

At the upper levels, they have been seeing sublimation. Despite the temperatures being below freezing, the sun is turning the ice directly into vapor. There’s no melt water. There could be an anthropogenic effect, such as ozone depletion, but not from anthropogenic warming. The glaciers have been melting for over 150 years, well before the supposed effects of human caused “climate change” would have started. Much of Africa has been dryer during the Modern Warm Period, but, really, can that be scientifically proven in order to be blamed on Mankind? Particularly since it started before the increase in CO2 levels? No. Even very tiny changes in solar output can have large ramifications on the Earth’s climate. The Sun has always been the primary driver, something which Warmists want to deny.

Dont forget, Greenland was once forested. The Mid-East was once lush with many grasses and fruits.

Oh, and the Antarctica used to reside on the equator. But, we in these days can stop the climate from changing. yep. sure. right.

    Teach gets one right!! Kudos!

from the experts at Skeptical Science — Indeed deforestation seems to be causing Mount Kilimanjaro’s shrinking glacier so Gore got this wrong. But Philip Mote, author of the study in Nature, puts it in perspective: “The fact that the loss of ice on Mount Kilimanjaro cannot be used as proof of global warming does not mean that the Earth is not warming. …”

But then, Teach is not content taking yes for an answer, and typically goes off the rails, typing: “The last thing the 3rd worlders living in the area need is more reduction in their living standards through “climate change” programs.”

Any evidence that global warming remediation necessarily will reduce 3rd World standards of living? (It should be noted too that the far-right industrialists’ concern with 3rd world welfare parallels the threat to the industrialists’ incomes.)

Teach typed: “Even very tiny changes in solar output can have large ramifications on the Earth’s climate. The Sun has always been the primary driver, something which Warmists want to deny.”

Climate scientists don’t deny the importance of the Sun; they have examined its role and continue to examine its role – variability in the Sun’s output cannot account for the current global warming.

from the article you cited in support of global warming being caused by the Sun:

    — “Although the sun is the main source of heat for Earth, the researchers note that solar variability may have more of a regional effect than a global one. As such, solar variability is not the cause of the global warming seen in recent times.

“While the sun is by far the dominant energy source powering our climate system, do not assume that it is causing much of recent climate changes. It’s pretty stable,” Kopp said. … While solar changes have historically caused climate changes, the sun is mostly likely responsible for less than 15 percent of the global temperature increases we’ve seen over the last century, during which human-caused changes such as increased greenhouse gases caused the majority of warming.” —

  3. I have never said there has been no warming, Jeffy. We’re arguing over causation. Melting on Kilimanjaro is not from global warming.

    Given up your car yet?

So it sounds like humans are the cause of this problem they are affecting the local weather patterns. Teach after the last of the ice undergoes a phase change which takes huge amounts of energy would you then expect the temps to rise at the summit? I dRight now the temps are not going up because there is so much ice present, but as you posted that is fast disapearing

  5. john says:

Can humans actually cause weather/climate change ? Deniers say NO

  6. john says:

Yes Teach the Sun certainly have an effect on our climate. Of course the insolation is NOT at a high level right now, we have a dim Sun
And the insolation levels are uniform not unique to Mt K
Good Grief Teach do you think that all of the world’s glaciers are melting because of human activity on Mt K?

  7. Better_Be_Gumballs says:

Can humans actually cause weather/climate change ? Deniers say NO

    Actually, deniers deny the holocaust.
Climate realists do believe that the climate changes and that humans can affect their local weather in ways such as UHI and deforestation.

Good Grief Teach do you think that all of the world’s glaciers are melting because of human activity on Mt K?

First off, it is the CAGW crowd that has tried to push the belief that all of the glaciers are melting. However, they do not believe it is because of humans living on Mt. K. In fact, there aren’t that many humans on Mt K. There are many in the regions around the base of Mt K.

Once again, J obfuscates and uncomprehends the topic of the post.

  8. Jeffery says:

    Teachy,

You have said repeatedly that it hasn’t warmed in over 17 years which is a lie. You can’t have it both ways. You deny that it’s warming daily.

We are not arguing over causation, you are. You and the troopers at Skeptical Science agree that the glacial melting on Kilimanjaro is not because of global warming. That’s because climate scientists follow the evidence.

Why do you ask if I have given up my car?

  9. Better_Be_Gumballs says:

Even J’s punctuation has become lies. That’s a new low for even you J.
