Yes, I’m usually kind of lame at responding to comments during the day. That whole work thing, and it being kind of a pain to type that much on an Android. I have a good excuse for today: I left work around 2pm, and walked in my door at 547pm.
It normally takes me around 25-30 minutes to get to and from work. Not today. One would have though all the folks who make the decisions to close shop would have noticed what happened in Atlanta. Alas, no.
I attempted to use some of the back roads to get home, because I knew the highways would be a mess. Alas, no. Shuffled from this one to that one, had to do a u-turn, and ended up at the intersection of 440 and Glenwood. Just like normal. And, morons still had to play games. Instead of getting in the correct turn lane, they would wait till the last minute. Then people had to attempt to play games by creating their own lanes. It’s not like there weren’t enough accidents and stalled vehicles or something.
Surprisingly only saw one accident occur. Minor fender bender, because a dumbass decided he wanted in a different lane.
Had to take an exit going the other way, then whip a u-turn, because the normal ramp was simply shut down with vehicles that couldn’t make it up. Unfortunately, the 2 other ways I would usually take were also blocked beyond belief.
Oh, and thank goodness I had an empty water bottle, if you get my meaning. Yeah, gross. Saw a few others who looked like they were doing the same, and someone threw a full bottle out of his passenger window.
Looking at the traffic cams, some look better, others looks still a freaking mess.
I’m actually a bit shaky and feel anxious after that white knuckle drive. Oh, and hungry. No lunch.
That sucked.
But the important thing is that you did make it home, safely.
If the forecasts pan out, I’m not going to bother going in tomorrow; and my wife is scheduled off. As long as the sparktricity stays on, it won’t be too bad a day.
Was a bit hair raising. I don’t really trust my Jeep Liberty in inclement weather, several issues. So, I kept it in 4WD high most of the time.
I’m supposed to work 12-9 tomorrow, so I don’t have to get up. I suspect work will be cancelled, though. Still won’t go in if they do open. Essentially have to travel across Raleigh. Luckily, where I live the power lines are buried. During other big weather they’ve stayed on, even during an big ice storm. As long as the big stations are OK, should be good.

Nah, liberal doctrine is to supply our tax monies to bail out poor red states when they ask for disaster aid, as Nikki Haley has done.
Is that hypocrisy when red state governors whine about federal spending then turn around and beg for federal monies? I guess federal spending is only bad if it goes to the other guy.

I always thought it was a rather silly sign until the first time I drove in a monster snow storm. Then I realized how that little sign was true.

Most red states are takers. They take more federal dollars than they pay in.
I am ok with that. You need our help and as fellow Americans, we’ve got your back.
Taxes are like insurance, redistributing monies paid in by the masses to those in need. But if you want to cut taxes you have to cut the demand. You want to cut federal taxes but you want to take federal tax money for your needs.
I work near Glenwood by Rex hospital and live in Clayton and it took me 4 hours and 15 minutes to get home…normally a 35 minute commute. It was mass chaos everywhere. People walking around like a zombie attack, semis stuck and spinning their wheels, cops directing traffic to the one clear lane out of 4. Water pipes burst and spraying into the air at gas stations, things caught on fire…it really was snowmageddon. Glad you made it home safe, I saw those pictures of Glenwood (http://i.imgur.com/s3hhYjT.jpg) & it looked absolutely awful.
Thanks, GC. I have driven in more dangerous, went through a blizzard while heading to Snowshoe, WV, from D.C. back in 1990. Had no idea where the edge of the mountain was, so drove next to the mountain wall. But, I didn’t have to deal with other cars, and it was pure snow, so not slippery.
Holy cow, Lindzy, that photo is amazing. Kinda up near I work, it looks like. Looks super slippery, which is why I tried to avoid Glenwood.

Fortunately, the freezing rain didn’t turn out as bad as predicted, and the temps are above freezing now. And not as many power outages.

Strange. The February average for Sochi is 42.8 degrees, and the average daily high is 49, with a low of 37. A rather poor place to hold the Winter Games, wouldn’t you think, John? Might they not have picked somewhere that could easily support the Winter Games?
Anyhow, Sochi being warm wouldn’t prove anthropogenic causation. Just that the Earth is in a typical warm period.
