Apparently, Now The Mountains Are Eating The Warming

Here’s yet another excuse as to why the Earth is refusing to warm in a statistically significant manner, causing the vast majority of climate models from the Believers to fail

(Climate Central) U.S. scientists have measured the rate at which mountains make the raw material for molehills – and found that if the climate is rainy enough, soil gets made at an astonishing speed. And in the course of this natural conversion of rock to fertile farmland and forest loam, carbon is naturally removed from the atmosphere.

Isaac Larsen of the University of Washington in Seattle and colleagues from California and New Zealand took a closer look at rates of weathering on the western slopes of the Southern Alps in New Zealand. They report in Science that, according to their measurements, rock is being transformed into soil more than twice as fast as previously believed. (snip)

The research matters because – once again – it throws new light on one of the dark regions of the climate machine: how carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere, at what rate, and where it goes and where it all ends up.

So,let’s see

Climate Depot Analysis: ‘There have been at least seven separate explanations for the standstill in global warming’ – 1) Low Solar Activity; 2) Oceans Ate Warming; 3) Chinese Coal Use; 4) Montreal Protocol; 5) Readjusted past temps to claim ‘pause’ never existed 6) Volcanoes 7) Decline in Water Vapor

Now we add “rain falling on mountains”.

Can someone tell me where the CO2 is? Jeff has not been able to find it in the oceans. The CO2 in the lower atmosphere is the same, the only CO2 that is elevated is in the upper atmosphere, yet we don’t have a model to put it there, according to Jeff.

    Pirate,

You’ve been duped by the hacks at Climate Depot and JunkScience. Please find in the article where the authors make the claims that the Climate Depot and JunkScience fossil fuel lobbyists and propagandists say they make. A change in atmospheric CO2 significant enough to impact climate change is significant enough to be measured. This is the dumbest thing you’ve regurgitated from these lying whores yet.

Here’s the abstract from the Science article:

“Evaluating conflicting theories about the influence of mountains on carbon dioxide cycling and climate requires understanding weathering fluxes from tectonically uplifting landscapes. The lack of soil production and weathering rate measurements in Earth’s most rapidly uplifting mountains has made it difficult to determine whether weathering rates increase or decline in response to rapid erosion. 10Be concentrations in soils from the western Southern Alps, New Zealand, demonstrate that soil is produced from bedrock more rapidly than previously recognized, at rates up to 2.5 mm per year. Weathering intensity data further indicate that soil chemical denudation rates increase proportionally with erosion rates. These high weathering rates support the view that mountains play a key role in global-scale chemical weathering and thus have potentially important implications for the global carbon cycle.”

david, You are wrong. There is CO2 dissolved in the oceans and CO2 in the atmosphere. If you evidence to the contrary please present it and stop playing your childish games.

J- So which of the excuses are the climateers going with (this week)?

  4. Cold_Spring_Gumballs says:

    Mountain rainfall removes CO2

My question, is how does CO2 only know to fall out with the rainfall in the mountains? Is the CO2 racist against lowlands? Is CO2 a-hatin’ on the beaches? Does CO2 not reside around boreal forests?

What is it about mountains that CO2 only rains down upon them, and not other places?

Of course, I jest as this is complete and utter hogwash. Even a 3-year old can see through this BS.

This is like J saying only man-made CO2 raises the temperature of the air. This is like J saying that only CO2 is responsible for our greenhouse effect.

As I pointed out, the Pirate was duped by the lying whores Morano and Milloy. There was nothing in the article that says anything remotely close to what the Pirate, Morano and Milloy claim. The list of “excuses” they claim climate realists make are a collection of falsehoods.

There is no need for excuses. The Earth is warming because of increased atmospheric CO2 from burning fossil fuels.

The reason you cultists rely on non-scientists paid by fossil fuel interests for your information is pretty obvious.

Sadly, most of what you think you know is false.

  6. Jeffery says:

    gumballs,

You should try to read and understand the article.

You are confused about CO2. All CO2 contributes to the greenhouse effect, but human-generated CO2 is upsetting the carbon cycle and is responsible for the increase in atmospheric CO2 from 280 ppm to 400 ppm. Not all the CO2 generated from fossil fuels stays in the atmosphere, as about half dissolves in the oceans. CO2 is the predominant greenhouse gas but there are others.

  7. gitarcarver says:

There was nothing in the article that says anything remotely close to what the Pirate, Morano and Milloy claim.

Actually Jeffery, if you read the abstract you cite, the articles use the same conclusions presented in the abstract.

I fear that you have been drinking too much tonight and have forgotten how to read and comprehend what people say.

Those liberal blinders really affect your ability to understand anything above 2+2=4.

  8. Cold_Spring_Gumballs says:

So, all the CO2 that comprised the difference ‘tween 400 and 280ppm is all man produced? Really?

CO2 is the predominant greenhouse gas? Really?

as about half dissolves in the oceans.

at any given moment.. maybe. over time all of it is absorbed in to the ecosystem. recycled. re-emitted. re-absorbed. re-recycled.

it is carbon.. it never dies. It is always here. always will be.
