Don’t Forget, De Facto Ban On 60 and 40 Watt Incandescent Bulbs Starts This Year

Remember, pot is legal in Colorado, but certain lightbulbs aren’t

(Business Insider) Soon you won’t have much of a choice than to buy energy-efficient lightbulbs — the government ban on the production of 40- and 60-watt incandescent bulbs has gone into effect for the new year.

These lightbulbs account for more than half of the lightbulbs purchased in the U.S., according to Sustainable Business. The government has already phased out 75- and 100-watt incandescent bulbs.

It’s not really a “ban”, so much as legislation signed by President Bush (thanks, George!!!!!) that mandates energy efficiency specifications. Which means that most incandescents cannot be produced to meet those specifications, not without making them really, really expensive. KVAL puts it succinctly when it comes to all the different types of bulbs

And if you don’t prefer that choice? Too bad.

These incandescents were warmer and used more energy, so you will be made to comply. Cause Climate Change. CFLs are greener or something. And healthier! Except for all that mercury. Which will end up in landfills. Soaking into the land.

We stocked up at least a half dozen times, as recent as the week of Christmas when Home Depot had advertised a big sale on these 40 & 60! Have a shelving unit half full of them as well as 75 & 100’s. Wish I’d done more…
Now, I will stock up on candles; we can watch TV by candlelight if need be.

I have never figured out why the liberals/communist hate Bush, he was a leftist just like them. He is actually a Connecticut yankee with a Texas accent.

We could have voluntary energy efficiency, but that hasn’t worked. The far-right pseudo-free-market fetishists have the mistaken notion that a free market results in fair outcomes for a society, but they ignore the negative externalities of interactions, e.g., pollutants. You can ban the pollution, e.g., make laws not allowing corporations to dump their offal into public spaces; you can prohibit or reduce the source of the pollutant is it’s not from a point source, e.g., mileage standards on cars, prohibitions on wasteful appliances and lightbulbs; or you can use a broad genuine market-based approach and enact a cap-and-trade system for the offending pollutant, e.g., CO2 from burning fossil fuels.

Of course, far-rightists don’t see a need for any attempts to limit CO2 emissions, since far-rightists only recently admitted the Earth was warming (kudos for admitting the obvious, albeit kicking and screaming the whole way – Anthony Watts was embarrassingly WRONG on the most significant question of climate change – why do you still revere him?).

In any event, before the TeaBag Party hijacked the Republicans, small c conservatives recognized the need for global climate change remediation. So, yes, George W. Bush, Newt Gingrich and all the others who are now termed RINOs by teabaggers advocated limiting CO2 (and other greenhouse gas) emissions. Cap and trade is a Republican market-based idea (as opposed to the liberal idea of a carbon tax).

This qualifies for one of the dumbest statements of the year. (Geez, how many facepalms is Jeffy up to now?)

In any event, before the TeaBag Party hijacked the Republicans…

The Tea Party was not about energy and climate, Jeffy. I am sorry that fact distorts your reality, but that is the truth. It must be a difficult life to blame everything on others when they don’t follow your view of what reality should be.

    gutter,

Do you get paid to service the Pirate or do you do it for fun?

“The Tea Party was not about energy and climate, Jeffy. ” Nice git.
I love how the left hate the Tea Party so much, that they don’t bother to know one single truth about them! Matter of fact, not one single Tea Party group, of which there are hundreds at minimum, have the same exact set of values other than these two: Less Government and Lower Taxes.
To intimate that any of them are pro or anti climate change or pro or anti limiting CO2 is to show your ignorance. Tea Party people are so far more diverse in the scope of their ideals and love of this country than Liberal Democrats, it isn’t funny.

Well there ya go. Another ad hominem attack by someone who still refuses to debate facts or even consider the fact that he may be wrong.

Here’s a little lesson for you JeffyPoop,,,,,,, you don’t own the Pirate’s Cove and neither do I. If the owner wants me not to say anything, I will respect his wishes as this is his place paid for with his money.

You, on the other hand, will always try and shut down people and ideas that are different than yours even on sites and property which you do not own or control.

That is what a liberal does. You can’t win on the merits so you have to try and shut down the opposing voices.

Sorry buddy. That ain’t gonna work with me.

I would never tell you to shut up because the more you talk, the more your comments expose you as a vapid, insipid and morally corrupt individual.

So the more you talk, the more you convince people that liberals are nuts.

    Keep at it.
