Admin. Which Ran Guns Into Mexico Looks At Broad Gun Control Agenda

Of course, as usual, Obama is leading from behind, seeing as how Democrats have already introduced 8 pieces of legislation in the House and Senator Feinstein (D-has gun herself) plans to introduce a big one in the Senate

(Washington Post) The White House is weighing a far broader and more comprehensive approach to curbing the nation’s gun violence than simply reinstating an expired ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition, according to multiple people involved in the administration’s discussions.

A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.

Hmm. It’s already illegal to carry a gun within 1000 feet of a school. I bet people intent on mass murder/suicide will pay attention to stiffening fines. But, I really like the part about tracking the movement of weapons, something the agencies under Obama failed to do when it comes to Operation Fast and Furious.

To sell such changes, the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses. White House aides have also been in regular contact with advisers to New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I), an outspoken gun-control advocate who could emerge as a powerful surrogate for the Obama administration’s agenda.

The way I read that, having watched Obama operate since he started running for President, and having read his history, is that he plans on attempting to intimidate and bully gun retailers heavily. That’s his modus operandi.

Stanek said the meeting also included significant discussion of mental-health issues, violence in video games and movies, and the poor quality of information contained in databases used to conduct criminal background checks before issuing gun permits.

Don’t expect to hear a thing about the games and movies, the makers tend to donate a lot of money to Democrats. As for the info in databases, I wonder if we can expect The Government to collect even more information on law abiding citizens?

I suggest that we designate all federal buildings, including the White House and Congressional buildings, as gun free zones, whereby no one may carry a weapon, including law enforcement and security, except when responding to an emergency. If Democrats want to disarm the public, then elected Democrats should be disarmed.

I see an end-run around the Congress. Congress will not pass further gun control legislation. He has the power to tell the DoJ how to enforce certain laws and how to regulate certain guns.

I see a national database created by fiat and a bully session to force makers and sellers to comply.

    There WILL be much backlash.

  2. Well, I have to wonder if there will be backlash noticed by most Americans, since the Legacy Media will mostly ignore the actions of Obama.

True. Most of the people of this nation still have no idea what F&F is.

We will have to CONTINUE to rely upon our alternative news sources. Just look at how the Tea Party grew and organizes.

However, I do believe that we would need a method of communication that is faster and more reliable.

Other countries watch the same movies and play the same games but their murderrates are much lower. It is too easy for the wrong people to obtain guns.

Was that a completely cogent response from a Troll? Thank you for confirming that there is absolutely no link between video games and violence. And, everyone agrees that often times, wrong people get guns. Another reason that gun owners were in favor of background checks.

Now, can we prevent the wrong people from voting?

The murder rate of the US compared to other countries has always been higher, john.

The interesting thing is that in England and Australia, where guns were banned, their murder totals, rate of murders and violent crimes all jumped. What do you want do confiscate from the people there?

It is too easy for the wrong people to obtain guns.

First, who decides who are the “wrong people?”

Secondly, it seems that people of your ilk believe “the wrong people” are “American citizens” and therefore we should ban weapons of every type for everyone.

If Feinstein’s proposal or any of the proposals kept weapons out of the hands of criminals, you might have a point. But the proposals do not do that, do they? All they do is add more restrictions on legal Americans.

So go onto a website such as “RickersIslandPrison.com” and talk to the people who use guns illegally and then get back to us. We all know you won’t because you aren’t interested in taking guns away from criminals – you are only interested in preventing people from exercising their rights of self defense.

  7. Following regarding “the wrong people”, how do we determine that? Consider that convicted felons cannot own a gun. Yet, many aren’t violent. What about someone like Martha Stewart who was convicted of insider trading?

And yet felons still get guns. What about crazy people? How about the crazy guy who rants about space aliens controlling our minds? Is he/she a danger? Or the wacko liberal worrying about government signals from cell towers? The conservative survivalist living up in an isolated cabin? Do we involuntary drag them in for an evaluation? Investigate people who haven’t broken any laws? Dobwe criminalize future potential crimes of thought?

And who decides? What if the Obama DOJ deems that anyone who is concerned with Big Government is a threat? Or a GOP DOJ deems anyone who supports abortion as a threat?

    john,
YOu are actually right. The other countries do have a tendency to mass killings like we do by lone nuts. So gun bans would not help there. But the other countries do not have a violent element that we have here. Notably mention of this element would get me called a racist. But it you substract out their activities, then our murder rate is actually lower than the European counterparts. So if you are really interested in getting violence under control, don’t eliminate the guns, eliminate the groups that and segment of people that are responsible for the violence.
