(NJ.com) With cases of whooping cough surging and a growing number of parents claiming a religious exemption from vaccinations for their children, a Senate panel day approved a measure making the shots much harder to avoid.
“I think the religious exemption was being misused,” state Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen), a sponsor of the bill, said. “And we have statistics of a growing number of non-immunized children. We’re starting to see some outbreaks like whooping cough.”
There’s no doubt whooping cough is a danger. And there are, unfortunately, many religious and pseudo-religious people (think Scientology) who refuse to vaccinate. So, the NJ Central Planning Office has a plan
The legislation would require parents to submit documentation to the school explaining how the vaccination would conflict with the “bona fide religious tenets or practices of the student” and include a signed and notarized letter explaining how the religious conviction would conflict with the vaccination.
In addition, the bill would state that the religious belief was held consistently, did not apply only to vaccinations, and that the parent understood the risks of avoiding the shot.
People are going to have to prove their religious beliefs in a long, notarized letter? And also get a signed letter from a doctor? Yet NJ is against people proving who they are with ID when they vote. And the State health commission could still override the religious exemption if he/she so chooses.
“In reading the mandates, I could not help thinking it was like the inquisition. The parents must write a treatise on their beliefs. Then they must get it notarized,” said Deborah Huber, legislative vice president for the National Organization for Women of New Jersey, which she said has taken a “vaccine choice” position similar to their pro-choice stance on abortion.
Personally, I’m blown away by the leader of the far left group NOW NJ making that statement. Which should explain just how bad this legislation is.

That is simply amazing. From attacking religion on their belief in the sanctity of life, to now a straight out attack for PROOF of religion.
The next step which is what this is, is approving of certain religions. If your religion is not approved, then you can’t ask for waivers from obamacare nor vaccinations.
Now, you can not hold personal bible studies in your home. Soon, only those approved by the gov’t can have bible studies.
Any bill that addresses this issue should be simple to write: If’n ur snotlicker ain’t vaxed it can’t attend public skool. Period.

That is a good point, get2djnow. The state does have a right to restrict in this case, and putting sick kids around lots of other kids in schools is a Bad Idea.
for the most part, school districts already have this requirement.
It seems parents are asking for an exemption to that requirement to allow their unvaccinated kids to attend school. This is like asking for an exemption from car insurance and still be allowed to drive.
Now, this is also rather disturbing. Seeing as how the media and administration made an emergency out of the bird flu scare few years ago, yet it was a whiff, they can it seems institute an emergency at any time they wish.
