Prometheus – The Review

Just getting back from seeing Prometheus (saw it in 2D. Missed being able to get in to the 3D showing by 3 minutes, stuck at work). The big question is, did it live up to the hype? No.

But it came very, very close. Pretty much everything you have read about what it is supposed to truly be about? Forget it. Yes, it does have some links to Alien. But it is so, so much more and different. I’ll say no more. I saw it at an afternoon matinee, obviously, but I would pay to see it during the primetime showing. Going to give it an “A”. Go see it!

Michael Fassbender was awesome, as was Noomi Rapace, as the two main leads. Everyone else was highly motived and well directed. Ridley Scott made a masterpiece of science fiction. I have to wonder if there will be a follow up?

so? is it a prequel or not? Does it answer the “where’d that big alien thing in Aliens 1 come from?” question?

Or, did it just play on “Aliens were our progenitors” and we are not ready for contact?

You say it didn’t really live up to the hype, and it sorta dealt with the Alien mythology…. well, then what’s the point of seeing it?

  2. There are some links. You could charitably call it a prequel, but the material it deals with is vastly different then in Alien.

As for hype, pretty much no movie lives up to the hype. People, including me, have been dying to see this movie. But, it really did come close. I thought it was fantastic, and I can’t wait to see it on Blueray. It’s one I will purchase. And really want a sequel.

    Thank you Teach.
One more question if you don’t mind:

When you say you really want a sequel, are you saying that the movie leaves you hanging – such as Lord of Rings 1 (knowing that a sequel was built in to the script) – or does it just leave out too much information that you hope gets answered in a hope-to-come sequel?

  4. It could stand on it’s own without a sequel, buy a sequel would be cool, advancing the story further. It did leave some questions unanswered, but your are left fulfilled.

“It’s kinda great, but I won’t say why. Just go see it. Because I say so.”

    Are you kidding?

    Worst “review” ever.

If you don’t trust TEACH.. then who can you trust?

  7. SpySmas missed the point that I thought it was really good so I didn’t want to give anything away. It’s not so much a review as a recommendation.
