DHS Issues Dire Warning About….Wait, Frying Turkeys?

A bit of silliness, or pure idiocy, probably both, to start off your Wednesday morning, via Big Sis, who seems to be taking this whole “homeland security” a bit far, as the Washington Examiner’s Charlie Spiering highlights

The Department of Homeland Security is taking any threat seriously during the Thanksgiving holiday, including the ominous threat to our national security posed by turkey fryers.

“How dangerous can turkey fryers be?” asks a warning issued on the official DHS Twitter account. “Make sure the turkey is completely thawed before placing in a fryer, or this may happen.”

“Use turkey fryers outdoors at a safe distance from buildings.” the DHS tweeted, “Never use turkey fryers in a garage or on a wooden deck.”

Charlie highlights the “ominous” video (click on the hyperlink in the word “this”) of what can happen if you fry a turkey improperly. Sheesh, what would we do without DHS warning us as to what could happen? I’m sure some stone cold jihadis are thrilled that DHS is concerned with this, rather than Islamic jihad.

AS someone that lives in Louisiana, where turkey frying got started, I can tell you it is dangerous. You do it outside, you use a stick and rope combo to intorduce the turkey to the hot oil, and you temp turn off the gas to the burner. Somehow that eliminate fires.

But in the end, it is none of the feds business. One more reason to get rid of dhs and tsa.

  2. Exactly. It’s not particularly a safe way to cook, but DHS should worry about other things. Next, they’ll start tweeting about the dangers of salt.
