Man Who Took Vacation Before Submitting Plan Says We Can No Longer Wait

I thought about tacking this on to the previous post about Democrats being unenthused about Obama’s “jobs” cough*tax*cough plan, but, figured it should stand on its own as Barry spoke in Raleigh

Erv Portman, a Democratic Wake County commissioner and former Cary town councilman, introduced Obama by saying that the jobs bill would provide small businesses like his Apex company an opportunity to expand. “Our country needs just a little bit of help to get out of this recession,” Portman said.

“The time for talking has passed. We need to send a message to Congress: It is time to act.”

Obama echoed Portman’s frustration with gridlock on Capitol Hill, noting that some Republicans have said they won’t support the jobs bill because it would give the president a victory he could point to in the 2012 election.

Who do they think was in charge of Congress till 2011, when the GOP took over only the House? Who do they think has been President since 2009? Anyhow, as has been pointed out, many Democrats are uneasy with Obama’s plan.

“Give me a win? Give me a break,” an exasperated Obama said. “This isn’t about me … This isn’t about positioning for the election. It’s about giving the American people a win. It’s about giving small-business owners and entrepreneurs a win. It’s about giving students and working families a win.”

He gave the students in the crowd a “homework assignment,” asking them to pressure Congress to act on the bill and not wait 14 months until after the election to address the sluggish economy.

Anyone else think this sounds remarkably like a campaign speech?

I read one report (don’t remember where, sorry) that since no Democrat had filed an “American Jobs Act”, some smartie Republican stole the name for his own tax-cutting bill.

    I hope that’s true.

We caught the same vibe, Teach, only we caught it at the speech in front of Congress.

If time was of the essence, why did he wait until now? He had a GAO report on cuts in spending back in March. Some of those cuts he wants to implement now.

He went on vacation for three weeks, walks into Congress and says “I have a plan” but doesn’t bring the plan with him. He waits some more time until he can get photos and face time in the Rose Garden to release the plan and the details.

And now….. NOW…. he has the gall to say “we have to hurry!”

I have said this before and will say it again, the man cannot lead. When true leaders want a sense of urgency, they exhibit a sense of urgency. “Urgency” is not a vacation.

This is political positioning. Nothing more, nothing less. He is looking at a tough road in 2012 and wants to make sure people hear “its not my fault” as much as possible.

Hearing voice are we now? If anyone is talking political, it is the Republicans saying the won’t support it because it would mean their arses the next election if they did.

I’m sorry, I thought this was about creating jobs, not giving more FED controlled loans to students already in huge debt. And, where in the bill does it give small-businesses a break in current operations?

If there is no money to hire, partly due to a drop off of people having money to spend – due greatly to ever increasing taxes – then how does Mr\Mrs Small Business have the money to even think of hiring someone? How does a small tax break help offset the loss in revenue that comes from hiring someone that can’t be afforded?

Some little birdy once told me that it is customer demand that determines if a business is successful or not, not how many loans and tax breaks they get.

But then, I’m a S.O.B. Evil Racist Anti-Gaia Republican and have been known to Murder-Death-Kill-Puppies.

  4. […] Pirate’s Cove has the man who took a vacation […]

Doncha just love a plan when it comes together.

Go on vacation in a 50k a week house and then come back from said vacation and tell Congress they need to pass a bill to put people to work.

This man is scary. Who was his high school sweetheart? Where are all his friends? Classmates?

I think he might just be an alien from outer space beamed down by scotty and we are all being mind controlled.

I have put on my tin foil hat. Please join me to block out the “NEGATIVE WAVES” so we can awake from this nightmare.

  6. Looks like Obama was totally PWND, Mojo. He should be getting used to it by now.

Well, remember what happened with the Stimulus, GC: it had to be passed RIGHT NOW or Things Would Collapse. Yet, it was passed, if memory serves, on Friday, then he made the big production of signing it on the following Tuesday afternoon in Denver.

Customer demand, Captain? You mean that companies don’t spring up with a product and people rush in to buy things they don’t need and prices they can’t afford? Dude!

Perhaps Obama is one of those aliens that are coming to destroy us due to globull warming, Word? Don’t worry, they can control you from cell phone towers: http://tearingdownstrongholds.com/
