With each passing Hurricane Center forecast, it seems more apparent

It would be interesting to see if the storm were to change course were the President to alter his current location. He could, perhaps, fly off to Chicago. Perhaps the storm will suddenly, and violently, veer west. It’s worth a try. 🙂

    It’s worth a funneh!!

“The approaching hurricane is a clear indication that we need to do more in the area of climate warming. For years, we have not listened to the warnings of the scientific community concerning this threat not only to people along America’s coastline, but to mankind around the world. It is why I will be proposing new legislation that Republican have fought against for years. We now are seeing the result of their shortsightedness. The policies of the Bush administration and the Republicans have put us in a position where weather events such as hurricane Irene are occurring with greater frequency and greater intensity. We can no longer afford to ignore the risks and must follow the will of the people to regulate and penalize those who threaten our future and the future of our children. For too long we have seen how corporations have polluted the world in the pursuit of money. Their greed has cost us our health, our safety and the very world in which we live. As President, I will not allow the irresponsibility of a few, wealthy individuals to affect so many without repercussions.

As to Irene, I have directed the head of F.E.M.A, William Fugate, to have resources ready and at hand if and when Irene makes landfall. We will not repeat the mistakes of previous presidents who refused to remove people from their homes as Katrina approached the Louisiana coast. My administration will not allow the poor to be disparately impacted by a catastrophic weather event where the rich can flea in their jet airplanes.

Irene is a dangerous storm. Please follow the directions and instructions of the Emergency Management officials in your area.

As Irene approaches, the thoughts and prayers of the American people with be with those citizens in her path.

    Thank you and good day.”

  5. captainfish says:

Ummm…. so, two days from now?

And, does that mean, you will be forcibly evicted from your homes now when hurricanes MIGHT come to your area?

Are they forcing people out of their homes when the storm is 10, 100, 1,000 or, as Cat 1, Cat 2… or when?

Seems to me, the best and bestest and smartestest option would be to just vacate the coastlines, like Al Gore has said we should do. Just .. leave the ocean-border states and we should all live happily ever after.

  6. gitarcarver says:

You can find the whole story here Cap’n.

    • Adobe Walls says:

@ gitarcarver I followed your link. Are you opining that Obama has become a “satirist”?

  7. Adobe Walls says:

I’d like to see them try to forcibly remove people from their homes.

Is he aware that this will be the first hurricane to reach the continental US in three seasons?

  8. captainfish says:

HEH.. something tells me that it still won’t. If it does it will have dropped to TS level. Isn’t it still too soon for most part of hurricane season?

  9. gitarcarver says:

Oh Lord, I have spawned a rumor that will not die.

    Oh well.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 Cap’n. Late August through September seem to be the worst times for storms hitting the US. That is my experience at least.

Irene is, at this moment, still expect to hit Massachusetts with 100 max sustained winds. That is a Cat Two hurricane.

  10. I fully expect that by the end of tomorrow, Irene will shift much more to the east, and be no danger to land.

  11. captainfish says:

So, Obama says that republican Hurricane Irene will Destroy\devastate\hold hostage Martha’s Vineyard as a cat2 storm through November??!!?!?!?

that’s horrible statement to make. He needs to be taken to a room where negotiations can be made so that he can come to see that his decisions are having a semi-negative effect on the economic stature of hard-hit people.

  12. gitarcarver says:

No Adobe, I am stating for a fact that the “statement” is satire written by li’l ol’ moi.

Please look at the supposed date of the release and blame that “he” casts everywhere for a friggin’ hurricane. (Also I snuck in “flea” for “flee.”)

I wanted to see if people actually looked at what they read and questioned it rather than accepting the worst all the time.

Does it sound like something Obama would say? Yep.

    Did he?

    Nope.

  13. Adobe Walls says:

Well whoever wrote it, it was a brilliant bit of satire

  14. gitarcarver says:

Well Adobe, believe it or not, I tested it here and then posted it on my site with a few modifications. After making it so obvious that it was satire, I still got an email telling me that the date was wrong and that the person “didn’t get it.”

The changes make it so obvious that only a complete humorless person lacking any sort of intelligence would not see it.

I was therefore not surprised when the that was wondering about it was a Ron Paul supporter.

  15. gitarcarver says:

*that the person wondering about it was a Ron Paul supporter.

Sorry for the typo. I am still stunned by this.

Here’s what I changed it to with the additions highlighted:

“The approaching hurricane is a clear indication that we need to do more in the area of climate warming. For years, we have not listened to the warnings of the scientific community concerning this threat not only to people along America’s coastline, but to mankind around the world. It is why I will be proposing new legislation of the type Republicans have fought against for years.

I pledge to have the the Congress appropriate funding for scientific research on climate change related events. Americans cannot live in fear of violent storms or of Michelle slipping and falling, which caused the earthquake this past week. In addition to reduction of greenhouse gases, I vow to install non-slip flooring made from recycled materials imported from China in the White House and our vacation locations. Even tee boxes will not be exempt from this installation.

As to Irene, I have directed the head of F.E.M.A, William Fugate, to have resources ready and at hand if and when Irene makes landfall. We will not repeat the mistakes of previous presidents who refused to remove people from their homes as Katrina approached the Louisiana coast. My administration will not allow the poor to be disparately impacted by a catastrophic weather event where the rich can flee in their jet airplanes.

Irene is a dangerous storm. If God does not listen to me and send this hurricane away, we will be forced to end our vacation prematurely. Please follow the directions and instructions of the Emergency Management officials in your area.

As Irene approaches, the thoughts and prayers of the American people with be with those citizens in her path.

    Thank you and good day.”
