They Aren’t Just Lighbulbs

A major league hussy fit at US News And World report

The absurdity of the policy fight itself is irritating. It’s just a light bulb, for heaven’s sake. It’s not even standards for automobile mileage and efficiency. The better light bulbs are supposed to end up saving consumers pots of money in the long run, since they last longer and use less energy. And the newer bulbs are a noteworthy aspect of the 21st century environmental movement. Instead of asking consumers to lower their thermostats or put on a sweater (still not a bad idea), environmentalists and just basically sensible people are finding ways to use technology to reduce energy consumption. Consumers don’t really notice the difference, because devices and appliances are simply built better, and are running more efficiently. The result is cash savings, a kinder impact on the environment, and a boost for national security. Anytime we can decrease our energy output, it helps ease out overall reliance on foreign sources of energy.

So much stupidity, where to begin? This isn’t just about light bulbs, this is about being able to make a free choice without government making it for us. We aren’t talking about government making cocaine illegal, these are light bulbs, for goodness sake, and if I want to buy an incandescent one, that’s my choice, as it is to get CFLs, of which I have a few. If I want to spend more in the long run on incandescent bulb (the figures are somewhat dubious for CFLs), that should be my choice, not some jackewagon government Weenies (and I include Bush and some Republicans) choice.

The loss of little freedoms in this country keep growing, and we need to roll back each one.

On the money. You know darn well it ain’t gonna end here. Who knows what’s next? Soon there will be a manual that makes our tax code look small telling us what we can and can’t do.

    Driftwood,
    There is a manual.

And, that is why liberals fail to see the real danger in what is happening. Because, they fail to see freedom and choice.

No, its mandated federal standards that outlaws choice and a cheap alternative.

ummmm… can you lie to me some more? ‘pots of money’? are these pots for fairies?

And yet you say, “just a lightbulb”? Yet, their mandated, expensive and hazardous. Yep, I agree – a perfect example of the anti-freedom environmental movement.

asking?!!?? Yeah, you would mandate it too if you could.

yeah, to commie socialist anti-capitalist pigs.

No. Def not. Esp the $5-$15 a bulb cost is not noticeable. The cost of cleanup is no different. The health hazards of mercury is no different than a regular bulb.

oh yeah, at new $250,000 home if a huge money saver. Oh, and for someone making $35,000 a year, it is definitely cheaper to buy a $1500 fridge than spend an extra $5 a month for a used fridge.

You know what else does and doesn’t cost us freedoms and billions in forced purchases? OUR OWN sources of energy!!!

You can’t fix stupid, but you sure can force them to live together.

Incredible. US News is furious – not because they won the light bulb battle which they did, thanks to our weak Republicans – but because we dare question the battle in the first place.
The bigger issue here is how the Republicans could not even get our light bulb back. They have achieved absolutely nothing since taking the House. The Senate is not afraid of them, Obama is not afraid of them. We don’t even know where they are half the time because we hear from them so little.

Face it folks, our representatives have failed us; we’re on our own.

Found this great quote the other day. (I think it was a “tweet”)

“I want govt out of my bedroom. I also want it out of my office, den garage, toilet, refrigerator and light sockets.”
