House GOP Looks To Freeze Obama’s “Power” To Give Illegals Amnesty

See, this is the kind of legislation the base expected in giving the GOP the House back in an historic butt whoopin’

The Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee is crafting a bill that would temporarily freeze the Obama administration’s power to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants.

The measure is in response to a memo issued by the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last week that approved a broader breadth of discretion for agency officials when considering whether to deport someone through the Secure Communities program.

Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), who is sponsoring the legislation, blasted the memo. He said that under the new guidelines ICE agents could defer the deportations of “millions of deportable illegal and criminal immigrants.”

“The Obama administration cannot continue to pick and choose which laws it will enforce,” said Smith in a statement. “It is outrageous that they have put illegal immigrants and their liberal political base ahead of the American people.”

It may be outrageous, but, that is simply business as normal for Obama and the Democrats, who continue to whine about being mean to illegal aliens, but, shockingly, after controlling the House, Senate, and White House for 2 years, they failed to pass any substantive legislation themselves.

Unfortunately, this will probably go nowhere in the Senate. We’ll be lucky if Harry Reid allows it to come up for a vote. Though, it will be great watching the Democrats hyperventilate in the run-up to the vote in the house, and they’ll provide some great sob stories and pea-brained quotes.

It may not go anywhere, but it is something to continually pound Obama and his cronies with.

If they aren’t willing to enforce the Voting Rights Act, if the aren’t willing to enforce equal opportunity laws, and now aren’t willing to enforce immigration laws, then the message to the middle / independent voters has to be “what is next?”

We need to keep reminding people that unelected government officials are picking and choosing what laws they want to enforce with the blessing of the Democrats and this president.

  2. Bingo. The GOP needs to be pounding him with legislation on a constant basis, on all sorts of subjects.

amen to that Teach. They need to keep it up. Give people a reason to vote FOR them too, as well as to vote AGAINST the liberals.

It’s time the House takes its power back. Tell Obama that he is not a monarch or tyrant and that the HOUSE really controls the purse strings.

I am really saddened that they didn’t choose to stop funding the war in Libya.

  4. I constantly send Boehner emails and tweets saying he should push a two tiered tax system that lets people voluntarily, and officially, pay a higher rate, like in Mass. No response, yet.

We had a post on the rich people who think that they should pay higher taxes. When asked what was holding them back from giving more money to the government, their response was “it wouldn’t be fair.”

I can’t wrap my head around people who think that something is a great idea but won’t do it themselves. They won’t actually lead by example.

Their premise is that is it a great idea and it is such a great idea that it has to be forced upon people at the point of the government sword.
