Globull Warming Cold May Turn The Lights Out In Britain

Or, it could simply be because of idiot, moronic, silly, ridiculous, absurd climate alarmist policies. You decide

Figures published last week reveal that the moment when Britain’s lights start going out may be much closer than previously predicted. Thanks in part to the hammering they took in the abnormal cold of last winter, six large coal-fired power stations which supply a fifth of Britain’s average electricity needs have now used up more than half of the 20,000 running hours they are each allowed under the EU’s Large Combustion Plants directive. When they reach that limit they will have to shut down.

Furthermore, in two years’ time, the Government’s new “carbon tax” will make them £600 million a year more expensive to run. Their mainly German owners will therefore want to use up as many of those hours as possible before a charge of £16 for every ton of CO2 they emit comes into force in 2013.

Christopher Brooker further points out that Britain’s wind turbines provided a power percentage somewhere between zero and minuscule. Now, I’ve said time and time again that I am all in favor of alternative energy source, and no fan of coal. But, before we attempt to do away with coal, wouldn’t it be, oh, I don’t know, intelligent to have sources that can actually take their place in full first? Not to mention not implementing climate alarmist restrictions that will turn the lights off?

This is always been my position…….

    Develop our fossil fuels and………

Develop Alternatives at the same time.

I do not even mind government subsidies in order to develop wind, solar, geo-thermal, Tidal and gerbils in a cage.

But do them both…..aggressively……Green will ultimately win out simply because once they are up and fully running the costs are smaller then digging coal or mining uranium or importing oil and gas.

    But……

Let us also remember that Wind, Solar, GeoThermal, Tidal and Nuclear is not going to POWER ONE SINGLE AUTO……get SEMI’s loaded with good to market……

Fly jets, power tanks……or move buses from here to there.

Most Conservatives I hear are all for all modes of GREEN energy……the problem is not the Conservatives….

Its always been the militant Left who want and end to fossil fuels…….YESTERDAY…..not 25 years from now.

    I mind.

Government subsidies change the market and favor one product or industry over another. That is fundamentally wrong.

We should not and cannot have the government picking winners and losers in the market.

Wind, Solar, Geothermal etc. will never replace or more than barely supplement our energy requirements.

    gita

    you are kidding right?

Right now the us government is subsidizing oil industry. Has been for decades.

As for alternatives……They will not replace our energy needs today…but tidal harness constructed up and down the east, west and gulf coast is anticipated to create 80 percent of our energy needs by 2055. Solar wind and geo-thermal will actually replace the rest.

The problem is and never has been our energy consumption but rather our gasoline/diesel and jet fuel needs which can only be met with the high BTU output of fossil fuels.

“but tidal harness constructed up and down the east, west and gulf coast is anticipated to create 80 percent of our energy needs by 2055.”

Anticipated by whom? How much would that cost? Moonbattery.
The “subsidies” given to “Big Oil” are merely tax breaks/loopholes similar to what all the rest of the cronies get. The Green Moonbat industries get’s those plus direct subsidies because no one other than Moonbat government is stupid enough to invest money in green energy.

    No, I am not kidding.

It depends on what you define as “subsidy.”

Even so, I much prefer “subsidies” for proven products as opposed to “subsidies” for unproven products and so called “research” where no end product is accomplished.
