Last night I posted on PFC Naser Abdo, a Muslim who has asked for conscientious objector status (denied!), and says he will refuse to deploy. The Jawa Report dug even more information out about him, an interview with Al Jazeera, where he said that being in the US military is not compatible with being a Muslim, and he has not asked for CO status because he is a pacifist, but, because he is a Muslim.
And then there is this interview with CNN’s Rick Sanchez
Listen at around 1:09, where he talks about asking himself whether God would approve, and talks about the peace that Islam preaches. He should ask Major Nidal Hassan about that one. And, yeah, one of his goals is to get out of the military. I’m sure that can be given to him, after a courts martial, some time behind bars, and a dishonorable discharge.
And, yes, now that you ask, there is a Free Naser Abdo website, linked to Courage To Resist (which has forgotten that joining the military is voluntary.) Definately read this post about his story, and be all sorts of “WTF?????”

It might be high time for the DoD to investigate what the hell is happening. Can’t quite compare the massacre caused by Nidal Hassan with these two soldiers, but, considering the whitewash with Hassan, it might be cause for concern. I wonder if the troops at Ft. Hood are carrying arms more than normal?
This guy was happy to be sucking down a paycheck, but doesn’t want to go to war? Do all the stuff to him that you suggest above, and get back all pay and benefits he has recieved to date, as well as the money the Army has paid to train him, ie. Drill Sergeants’ salaries, bus fare from the airport to basic training, airfare from home to airport, costs of uniforms, food at the chowhall, and anything else we can think of. This guy is only slightly above child molesters and terrorists in my book.

Granted some of my links are for desertion which doesn’t quite fit the story here, since he has yet to be deployed to a combat situation, but to me, there is no difference.
No wonder johnny drives a truck…
I think the last soldier shot for desertion was Pvt. Eddie Slovik in 1945.
