Obligatory Obama Amnesty Speech

I was going to wait till Friday to post this up as part of the off again/on again Friday Stupid series, but, monumental stupidity just can’t wait. ABC News skips the main “did he just say that?” comment, but, Hot Air catches what Mr. “Focused like a laser on jobs and the economy” went hall of fame stupid on

“Being an American is not a matter of blood or birth, it’s a matter of faith,” President Obama declared at a speech he gave on immigration.

Obama also blamed “resentment” to new immigrants to poor economic conditions.

“Now, we can’t forget that this process of immigration and eventual inclusion has often been painful. Each new wave of immigrants has generated fear and resentment towards newcomers, particularly in times of economic upheaval,” Obama said.

A matter of faith? Oh contraire, President Chump. Ye olde Constitution actually species that being an American is a matter of blood and birth. And this is a guy who was a Constitutional professor? Seriously? As Ed Morrissey writes

We know what Obama meant in this passage — a similarity to those who have expressed the notion that they were Americans before ever setting foot in the US, thanks to their love of liberty.  However, the people expressing that concept came to the US through legal immigration, and didn’t presume to break our laws in order to express their desire to live in freedom.  They understood that the aspirational concept of being American and the legal status of American citizenship (or even residency) are two completely different things.

Moving on, Chump says

“The system is broken and everybody knows it,” Obama said. “Unfortunately, reform has been held hostage to political posturing and special interest wrangling, to the pervasive sentiment in Washington that tackling such a thorny and emotional issue is inherently bad politics.”

The only system broken is the legal system, especially since around one third of all illegals are those who over-stayed their visas. But, it is a cute, and consistent, liberal talking point which attempts to equate those who come illegally with those who do it the proper, and legal, way. I wonder if PeBO notices that he himself is engaged in political posturing and pandering to special interests?

“I’m ready to move forward, the majority of Democrats are ready to move forward, and I believe the majority of American people are ready to move forward,” Obama said. “But the fact is that it cannot pass without Republican votes. That is the political and mathematical reality.”

He is correct on one thing: more Americans support some sort of pathway to citizenship, 57 to 40%, in an ABC/Washington Post poll. But, a Quinnipiac poll has the reverse, with 66% wanting stricter enforcement to 26% wanting integration. But, …. actually, the numbers in the polls vary all over the place, as you can see by scrolling through that link. It will be interesting to see what Rasmussen comes up with in the next week or so.

Cassy Fiano: The fail-proof Obama answer to every single one of our nation’s ills: rhetoric! Come on, you didn’t expect him to actually make any specific immigration policy proposals, did you? (And of course, it’s not his fault he can’t get anything done, it’s all because of the stupid Republicans!) The reality is, his administration has done nothing to make our national laws actually work, or to reflect our values as a nation of laws. Not only has he done nothing, he’s come out against a state that is trying to protect its citizens and enforce the immigration laws that he won’t!

Michelle Malkin points towards “baseless scare-mongering on profiling as an excuse not to cooperate with local and state law enforcement…”

Look, I’ll tell you what, Barry: if you truly secure the borders, and pass an iron clad law that nails employers of illegals between the eyes, make it really hurt (which would keep most illegals from coming to the USA,) and do not waiver on penalties, making illegals learn English, restricting them from social services like Welfare, Medicare/Medicaid, and not giving them all the benefits of actual citizens (like being able to vote, in-state tuition, etc), in other words, treat them like those who are applying for citizenship the proper way (with big fines), I will personally back you on this venture. I don’t want a repeat of this whole thing 20-30 years down the road. Secure the border to keep out the Islamic jihadis, drug and gun runners, and all the other bad guys out of our country. Till then, you simply full of bat guano.

Teach, how often are you willing to get burned? We have been burned several times already by your dream of “well I will support amnesty if they do X”. They have and never will do X.

It is time to do it our way or not at all.

    • Yeah, I know. Obviously, what I wrote would never happen, Obama and the Dems would never agree to any sort of compromise, and this issue is mostly a black and white one. The shame of it was, if we had implemented such measures when Reagan did the amnesty, we wouldn’t have this problem.
