Obama To Blow Off Arlington On Memorial Day

Once again, President Chump shows his true colors

President Barack Obama plans to spend a long holiday weekend in Chicago.

The White House says Obama and his family will travel to their hometown on Thursday and stay through the weekend. It will be their first trip back home since a visit for Valentine’s Day weekend in February 2009.

On Monday, Obama is scheduled to participate in a Memorial Day ceremony at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.

Instead of doing the duty as Commander-In-Chief of the US Armed Forces, Obama will take a short vacation and send VP Biden in his place. I don’t begrudge Obama spending time with the family away from the WH, cause, face it, he is still working, but, to essentially blow off this day which is important to our military and their families, especially those who have lost friends and loved ones, is despicable. And typical of him.

On the flip side, maybe it is better that the America and military hating chump doesn’t attend.

More: Doug Powers, filling in for Michelle Malkin, points out that President Chump is now going to alter plans somewhat to make an appearance down in the Gulf on Friday.

Memorial Day 1992. Mr. Potatohead Dan Quayle lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns while President Bush is in Kennebunkport, Maine (that populist haven) playing golf.

But it’s only a problem if Obama isn’t there.

NEVER HAS A PRESIDENT NOT ATTENDED THIS SACRED CEREMONY WHEN OUR NATION WAS AT WAR on two fronts.
Our Men and Women are in harms way in Iraq and Afganistan…
perhaps we should ask them when the last time they saw their families… bet it was a whole lot longer than 3 1/2 months… or maybe Mr Obama should think of those who will NEVER get to home….
4 year term…. President Obama SHOULD be honored to do that 4 times in his life…

Um, really?? NEVER?? In 2007, George W. Bush (remember him?) stayed in Texas while Cheney when to Arlington. Check your facts.

ADDITIONALLY, Bush was in FRANCE in 2002, the first memorial day after Sept. 11th. YES, he did hold a press conference at Normandy, but the fact remains that your statement is…. simply put… wrong.

        • Sharon Henderson says:

Bush actually was in Arlington for Memorial day 2007 and placed the wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. He only missed one in 2002 when he was at a summit in Rome. He placed the wreath in Normandy. I went through and made sure he was at the rest.

BTW here is the link from the US Department of defense 2007.http://www.defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=46204

still doesn’t make it right no matter who does it.

  3. captainfish says:

but.. might I add that he will skip Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington Nat’l Cemetery… ONLY to return for Paul McCartney concert!

President of the United States Job Title: Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.
Are these not suppose to be his men and women…?

I take it that you are conveniently forgetting that fateful Memorial Day Weekend of 1972. This was the weekend of the Watergate break-in. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I always thought that Tricky Dick was in the U.S.S.R. at the time and thus unable to have been in Arlington on Memorial Day 1972.

Bush skipped out on Arlington Veterans Day 2007. I believe the United States was at war on two fronts at the time. That great patriot Dick Cheney went in his place- W. was in Texas.

Your argument is weak, 101. Too many qualifiers, The Cap’n is probably correct that it still doesn’t make it right no matter who does it. I was just trying to point out that presidents of both parties have done so. Screech would rather just whine about Obama and ignore the others, I guess.

    • Proud Mom 101st says:

wrong no matter how you slice it and if your info is correct I apologize for the weak arguement but my feelings on the matter are not. I guess as a Military Family Memeber it is more than i can take when the President puts out Press Releases on how he and his administration support Military Families and thier issues when he cannot honor those that we honor….
My husband who is a Vietnam Veteran and I (Mother of active duty army) will be in DC again this Memorial Weekend Honoring our Veterans….as he has for 26 years and this is my 15th year… We will never forget.

Im Not a vet. I am deeply (“I don’t know “) I am without words how I feel that the president of the United States would dain to go elseware than the place where the people who died for our freedom are buried. It takes something extraordinaryly crude, crass and in my mind ignorant to not honour those who gave their lives for us. Maybe HE JUST DON’T CARE. Nuff said

  9. Bunny Colvin says:

Mr. Bill- I take it you were deeply outraged when this has happened before. Maybe Ron and the Bushies JUST DIDN”T CARE. I’d be surprised if you were so upset when they did it, though. My guess is that you were entirely “without words”- because you kept quiet. Nuff said

  10. JIm Scott says:

Its not right for any president, Repub or Dem, to ‘blow off’ this show of respect for the military who’ve given the ultimate sacrifice for our country…and to show respect to their families left behind. In Obama’s case it is probably the best thing since he apparently has no respect for the military and his presence would be an insult to our dead heroes and the memories that real Americans carry.

  11. John Ryan says:

Obama is going to the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery instead. Arlington was segregated at first, being the former land of General Lee

  12. Bunny Colvin says:

A good number of visitors here at the buttPirates Cove would prefer that it was still segregated, I’m sure. They have no problem with African Americans being laid to rest there, but any “Muzzie” U.S. soldier should be buried elsewhere. Arlington is a National Shrine and panty waists like gitarcarver might be “offended”.

You are all wrong this really is not about other presidents this is about our king obama (yes i use lower case due to disrespect of him). I am proud to say that i have not voted for this man. remember he was to bring change to this Great Nation that we live in and he was going to lead us all. Well if he is leading us then the example is set for the rest of our Nation. Lets take what is important and blow it off. Granted not every president has gone to Arlington. for Memorial Day, however when he took everyone for a ride and stated that he was going to lead this Great Nation then he must have been a great man however he fooled you all. take it for what it is and accept the facts that the obama supporters have been fooled. now i think that is enough said

  15. Bunny Colvin says:

Yeah Sharon, that’s why I said VETERANS Day 2007. Bush didn’t make it to Arlington on Veterans Day 2007. I’m not sure if you realize this, but Memorial Day and Veterans Day are two different holidays.
