Wear An American Flag To School On Cinco De Mayo? That’s A Kicking Off Campus

As Michelle Malkin asks, who the hell’s country is it, anyhow: Students Kicked Off Campus for Wearing American Flag Tees

On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population.

Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal’s office.

“They said we could wear it on any other day,” Daniel Galli said, “but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it’s supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today.”

The boys said the administrators called their T-shirts “incendiary” that would lead to fights on campus.

They had a choice of changing their shirts, or going home. They went home

“I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day,” Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. “We don’t deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn’t do that on Fourth of July.”

Perhaps if we WERE IN MEXICO, you bubble headed liberal pinhead. We are in America. However, you pinheads do support all sorts of marches in the USA carry the Mexican flag around, and carrying the US one upside down. Where’s the respect, Annicia?

The boys and their families have nicely told those offended by the wearing of American flags to shove it where the sun don’t shine. Good for them. Will the ACLU jump in and protect the rights of these boys? Doubtful.

What school principal wouldn’t have done the same thing? Don’t they have a responsibility to maintain order in school? And if so, isn’t it blindingly obvious that they need to take action when students do things that are designed to create conflict and bad feelings?

Isn’t it blindingly obvious that this is not Mexico, and that the Rights of Americans come first? As far as bad feelings go, aww, suck it it up and act like an adult, jackass.

How would these bloggers feel if a group of Mexican students came to a school event wearing Mexican flags on July 4th? You can just imagine their overheated reactions. The hypocrisy reeks.

Again, jackass, this is America. Celebrating OUR 4th of July is magnitudes more important than celebrating Mexican independence day, which most Americans treat as a reason to get drunk. We are under no obligation to be sensitive to the holidays of other countries, jackass. They are here in our country. Jackass.

You know otter we often choose as insults those that we secretly feel would apply to ourselves. How is this for a post You probably are not old enough to remember but I am: Abbie Hoffman was once arrested and found guilty of flag desecration for wearing a shirt made from an American Flag. The right wing social conservatives went nutzo over that one. And Otter just a little note I live in NYC but drive a truck so I often travel but usually east of the Mississippi. Want to meet up some time ? I get some leway on where my loads go

It’s pretty sad when American’s are punished for being proud of their country. This is America, if people are offended by our flag, then they are in the wrong country. If I were the parents I’d check into getting a lawyer. This is STILL AMERICA, and most of us are darn proud of it.

Yep. If the school had banned all flags they would have been well within their rights if they thought that the flags would have caused a major disturbance. As it is, they only banned American flags, thus making it a content based based, which is not allowed.

so if someone, in this case a Mexican student, wears a Mexican flag shirt on any other day of the year would the school make the student remove it? Or even more specific, on July 4th. Doubtful.

Actually Ryan, you are incorrect in many ways here. First, it is “Abbie Hoffman,” not “Abby Hoffman.” There is nothing worse than a person who is trying to make a subtle point and not spelling the main characters correctly.

Secondly, Hoffman was arrested and the law he was charged with was found to be un-Constitutional. Therefore the precedent was set that flags on shirts, bandannas, etc were protected free speech.

Now notice the difference. Conservatives supported the law when Hoffman was arrested and at the same time, many conservatives supported Hoffman’s right to speak out in the manner he did. They supported the Constitutional challenge to the law. They supported free speech.

Here you are saying that because Hoffman was arrested, and the law was found to be un-Constitutional, you disagree with the kids exercising their rights in same manner Hoffman did.

This is typical of those on the left. You want rights for those you agree with and the heck with the rights of those you disagree.

Your comment is just another case of your trolling and advocating points that are factually inaccurate. It also indicates that you are unable to discuss or debate anything of substance.

Bullshit you moron. I would never be able to possible sink to your level, for beginners. As the Least example, I at least found out Exactly what General Petraeus said, rather than the frigging LIE you keep repeating.

    Shove your lies.

ummmm… isn’t the 5th of May in USA a celebration created by a beer manufacturer?

How is it a celebration in Mexico? When it is not celebrated in Mexico? Some reference the battle with France. Yet, the war continued to rage on for years after that particular May 5 date. It only really ended when USA came to the rescue of Mexico. We didn’t like France back then either.

And John, yes, I am offended to some degree by people wearing flags on their bodies. Because I know that many of them are not doing so for the “patriotic” “love of country” reason.

But then sometimes, there are some flag clothes I can really stand up for.
(I hope I did that right)

  12. Damn, I never get tired of that picture.
