President Sparky Hoses AARP, Helps Conservative Group

Hey, remember all the times Obama said that AARP has endorsed his health care plan (well, really, the Congressional Democrats health care plans, since Obama basically outsourced the whole thing to them)? Saying that “they were onboard,” despite the fact that, while they endorse health care reform to reduce costs (just like most of us do,) they have not endorsed any plans? Yeah, about that

CBS News has learned that up to 60,000 people have cancelled their AARP memberships since July 1, angered over the group’s position on health care.

Just words, Mr. President, just words. And, words have consequences. Granted, AARP’s membership number is around 40 million, but, losses hurt, no matter what AARP states at the end of the article.

Many are switching to the American Seniors Association, a group that calls itself the conservative alternative as CBS News Investigative Correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports.

Last week alone, they added more than 5,000 new members. Our camera was there Friday when the mail came.

Letters were filled with cut-up AARP cards.

One group loses, thanks to Obama, another one wins. Perhaps Obama just wanted to spread the wealth?

“AARP has not endorsed any plan at this point,” said Cheryl Matheis, AARP VP for Social Impact.

Yet, they aren’t coming out against any parts of the plans which harm senior citizens. And, a town hall where a flustered AARP rep abruptly ended the meeting, then unplugged the microphone, surely doesn’t help.

Anyhow, good job, Sparky. Keep driving everyone over to our side of the aisle. And, to the GOP electa-critters? Ssshh. Please do not say anything. Never interrupt a foe while they are in the midst of making a mistake.

60,000 is such a HUGE number !!! WOW Teach please tell us what percentage that is of the 49 million AARP current members. Please tell me if you believe that this percentage is significant

  2. John Ryan says:

And Teach since no plans or bills have yet to be written it might be a bit premature for AARP to come on board on any of them

John, you are obviously a public school graduate huh?

I don’t believe Teach is saying anything about wanting AARP to “come on board” (besides Barry is the one who claimed they were “onboard”). As he said, I think everyone can agree that there needs to be some sort of changes made to the health care system, but to ask for a position on something, such as “we won’t endorse any plan that forces end of life counseling”, would be nice.
