Cheney More Progressive Then Obama On Gay Marriage?

So says the Huffington Post

Dick Cheney rarely takes a position that places him at a more progressive tilt than President Obama. But on Monday, the former vice president did just that, saying that he supports gay marriage as long as it is deemed legal by state and not federal government.

Don’t forget, Liberals/progressives, the guy you swooned, hyperventilated, and fainted over, before voting for, is against gay marriage.

In reality, Cheney’s position seems to be a Conservative on, from my point of view, where it is about freedom and State’s Rights, not to mention the 9th Amendment “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.” I suspect his daughter being gay might have something to do with it, as well, and let’s not forget that he has espoused the same belief for a long time, even discussing it as such during his beat down of John Edwards.

Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday he supports same-sex marriage because “freedom means freedom for everyone.”

However, in an appearance at the National Press Club in Washington, Cheney said he thinks same-sex marriage rights should be granted at the state level — not by the U.S. government.

“Historically, the way marriage has been regulated is at the state level,” he said. “It has always been a state issue, and I think that is the way it ought to be handled, on a state-by-state basis.”

“I think, you know, freedom means freedom for everyone,” Cheney said, reminding his audience that one of his daughters is a lesbian. “I think people ought to be free to enter into any kind of union they wish, any kind of arrangement they wish.”

Of course, 57% have a different view, at least when the question is whether or not gays should have the same rights as those in traditional marriages, up from 53% in 2007. Only 40% are have similar positions as Cheney. President Barry would be in that first group who is against gay marriage, opposite Cheney. That’s got to leave a mark. Like here:

 If Cheney can support marriage equality, there’s really no excuse for Obama and other leading Congressional Democrats.
