Five Democrats Arrested For Crossing Police Line

Imagine what the outcry would be if it was five Republicans. I wouldn’t have had to run across the story by accident

Five members of Congress and three activists were arrestedon civil disobedience charges in front of the Sudanese Embassy on Monday for protesting “crimes against humanity” in Darfur.

The congress members crossed a yellow police tape line and refused to leave the largely peaceful demonstration after calling on Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmed Bashir to reinstate 16 nongovernmental aid organizations that he expelled or shut down last month in response to the International Criminal Court issuing a warrant for his arrest.

Several also called on President Obama to pressure the international community, including China, a major trading partner with Sudan, for a solution to the violence in Darfur.

The lawmakers — Reps. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), Jim McGovern (D-Mass.), Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma), John Lewis (D-Ga.) and Donna Edwards (D-Md.) — were handcuffed by Secret Service officers after crossing the tape and taken to jail by local police officers. Each paid a $100 fine and was released within several hours.

You know, it is not that I disagree with their stances, because I do. The violence, and, yes, genocide in Darfur has been going on way too long, but, see, there is that pesky Article II, Section 4 thing

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

The Left want ballistic over the Larry Craig affair (showing their hypocrisy regarding homosexual activity,) and were calling for him to resign. So did so many on the Right, because he pleaded guilty. These five Democrats went over the line, meant both ways, and broke the law on purpose. Regardless of what they were doing it for (which, again, I applaud their motives, and wish more members of Congress would get off their duffs over Darfur,) if members of Congress willfully break the law, why should anyone else follow the law?

Now, who in the GOP will have the guts to call for them to resign and/or call for impeachment hearings?

PS: President Obama would earn quite a bit of respect from me, if it means anything, if he would get tough Sudan, and get an international co-allition together to end the mass killings.
