Obama Gives Queen An Ipod. Seriously? Updated With Bush’s Gift!

This morning, I started writing a post regarding the G20 meeting, and was going to ask “what entinty will be the first involved in an Obama gaffe? This can be a person, a group, country, etc.” Was pressed for time, never got to finish and post it. But, hey, we have the first of what is surely to be many by President Neophyte. As far as I have been able to determine, this is NOT an April Fool’s Day joke, as so many media outlets are covering it. Besides, this is the exact kind of neophyte malarkey Obama would actually pull

Barack Obama met the Queen at Buckingham Palace today and gave her a gift of an iPod loaded with video footage and photographs of her 2007 United States visit to the Richmond, Jamestown and Williamsburg in Virginia. In return, the Queen gave the President a silver framed signed photograph of herself and the Duke of Edinburgh – apparently a standard present for visiting dignitaries.

The Queen already has an iPod, a 6GB silver Mini version she bought in 2005 at the suggestion of Prince Andrew.

UPDATE: Pool reporter Richard Wolf of USA Today says that an Obama aide told him the President also gave the Queen a “rare songbook signed by Richard Rogers“.

Now, perhaps the songbook gift might have been nice (I’ve never heard of the guy), but, seriously, he’s meeting the Queen of England, and the best he can come up with is an iPod? Seriously? Her Majesty seems to be into tech as well, apparently being a big Wii fan, but, couldn’t Obama have come up with something a bit better? Maybe something cool from Hawaii. Or something for her Corgi’s.

I wonder if it had pictures of Obama on it?

Update: even Obama’s limo driver (isn’t that bad for global warming?) is now going gaffe

It’s not every day the American president’s driver is told to move his bulletproof car.

But Queen Elizabeth II’s handlers made the request Wednesday after President Barack Obama’s reinforced Cadillac limousine was found to be blocking the garden entrance driveway at Buckingham Palace.

Heh. Also, check the photo’s of Michelle. I usually have no problem with her sleaveless stuff, whatever floats her boat, but, come on, not when meeting the Queen, and, dahling, might want to go easy on the plunging neckline next time. Provided Her Majesty bothers with you both again.

Last update, I promise. Don’t want to go all Glen Greenwald or something. Via American Digest

UPDATE: What did the George and Laura Bush give to the Queen when she visited in 2007? Commenter Eric Blair has located this list a Raymond P. Martinez hosts Ask the White House

President and Mrs. Bush gave Her Majesty a bronze statuette “High Desert Princess” with a personal inscription on the bottom of the base. It is a replica of the original life size statue that is located in front of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, Texas. President and Mrs. Bush gave The Prince Philip an exclusive sterling silver eagle box by Tiffany & Co. with personal inscription on the inside lid.

President and Mrs. Bush gave Their Majesties a leather presentation box filled with a collection of documents from the National Archives. One of the items was a copy of an original letter from President Roosevelt to her father, King George, written in 1938. There were also photos from previous royal visits and a DVD of the footage from the Queen’s visit to the United States when she was Princess Elizabeth in 1951.

A commenter at Ace says, “Wow, we were really lucky to get rid of that Texas hillbilly, and miss out on that Alaskan chick, huh?

  1. John Ryan says:

Teach which would you have preferred ? A photo of the Queen or an iPod Touch 32 gig ? Well for me that would be a no brainer. Christ that bitch could have at least AUTOGRAPHED it for him ?

  2. […] An IPOD? Okay, I guess. A little cheesy considering it came from the POTUS (and a lot cheesy if this is true) . Barry is a classless person. Teach reminds of what CLASS was, when President Bush gave the Queen gifts. […]

  3. John Ryan says:

The Queen’s handlers asked specifically for an iPod. Teach after reading this do you think that maybe you are jumping both the gun and the shark with your criticism of Onama ?

  4. Where’d ya find that, John? Media Matters? Or, do you have an actual, verifiable link? Cause I have searched, and nothing to be found.
