Marty Brodeur-552 Wins!

With the final seconds ticking off the clock, Martin Brodeur saw the shot leave the stick of Chicago forward Troy Brouwer, kicked out his right pad and watched the puck head to the corner.

Within seconds, the buzzer sounded and Brodeur stood alone as the NHL’s winningest goaltender with 552 career victories. Childhood idol and Hall of Famer Patrick Roy was now behind him.

“It was an exciting night,” Brodeur said after making 30 saves in the Devils’ 3-2 victory agianst the Blackhawks on Tuesday. “I’m happy that it’s done and over with. It’s been chaotic, the last few days. It was an awesome night. It was a great reception from the fans.”

And The Rock went wild!!!!

Brodeur wasn’t the only record-setter on the night for New Jersey. Patrik Elias became the Devils’ career leading scorer when he recorded his 702nd point with a perfect pass to set up a short-handed goal by Brian Gionta late in the second period for a 3-0 lead.

Congrats, Patty!

Being a Red Wings fan I don’t see much Devils hockey but I have enjoyed highlights of the human slinky. Brodeur is definately one of the best, if not the best.

I HATE BRODEUR!!! But, I will acknowledge that he is one of the best. Why is it that the best guys are guys I hate??? Roy, Brodeur, Hasek….

  3. StB, could be a Red Wings-Devils Finals 🙂

Who do you root for, MBP?

I was going to go to the Canes-Devils game here in Raleigh tonight, but, Marty is taking the night off, and I think the Devs will lose. They just had so much emotion for the game, and looked like they were just tuckered out from that over-emotion by the 3rd.

I don’t really have a favorite team, though I follow the Wings, and the Sharks on a regular basis. And The Predators, but that is just because our minor league team is a feeder for Nashville.

I’m sure I would feel different if Broduer played for one of the teams I follow instead of constantly beating them.

  5. Well, as long as you follow the best sport eveh! 😀

Yeah, it has always been fun being a fan of the most hated team ever.
